The Z32 Nissan 300zx is an awesome car. With it's twin turbo v6 setup, it was no slouch. However when you swap in one of Nissan's best motors- the RB26DETT and slap a giant turbo on it, it becomes an absolute monster. In this review, the smiles were too real. Thanks for watching and more below!

the short wheel base chassis 300zx without a targa top. They're a lot lighter and rarer compared to the long wheel base version, which is always a targa top.

5300 rpm before it starts making usable power... I would have stuck with the ridiculously difficult to work on VG30DETT.
Sharayah Green He went with the huge turbo because he's installing cams, headstuds, and a clutch. he's also porting/polishing the head and setting it up for e85. so it's going to make 700-800 horsepower and spool wayyyyyyyyy faster and harder. he knows what he's doing.
If he isn't increasing displacement... the only mods you mentioned that will increase the spool up is porting and polishing, and cams. But both would be negligible... Last I checked headstuds, clutches, and e85 weren't part of a magic equation for making a turbo spool quicker. When you size a turbo to your engine a turbo manufacturer will typically ask you 3 questions.
What is it for? (Street? Race? ect)

Operating Rpm Range?
The problem with sizing such a large turbo to a smaller displacement engine is the lag. 5300 rpm is an embarrassing number to make boost at. Unless you have stable enough valve train to hold up to very high Rpm. Your usable power band isn't very usable. And the power you do make is short and spiky. That's fine if you a a numbers bragger... you know the type... "my car makes 800hp at 8000 rpm." That's awesome...for a race car. But on the street usable Rpm power band is usually between 2000-5000. I have seen many "race" car setups lose to street built cars simply because they don't make much usable power in the low to mid range. and by the time the guy with the big turbo does build boost the race is over. Then he looks like a fool. He bragged his PEAK numbers up. Peak numbers are for show. I will take 500hp car with broad low to mid powerband any day over a car that makes all its usable power above 5000 rpm. IMO They are more fun to drive. You can drive them near 80-100% all the time. You always have usable power. No sitting around waiting, waiting, waiting for power to come on just as you run out of your engines operating range and have to shift and start over.

Just got my r32 gtr and even with the somewhat quiet kakimoto racing that was on it when i bought it, it really is a screamer in high rpms

Truly a 90's halo car and IMHO does not get the recognition it deserves. It's like the 3000GT. Everyone who likes cars knows about them, but for some reason it leaves the grand majority of the people cold as ice.

Its funny you love 2nd gear so much in this setup. In the VG motor, it's absolutely 3rd gear that was awesome (Minus any synchro issues you may have going into 4th). Had a stage 4 90 TT, such a great car.
On my 11th z32, 7th slicktop, 2nd slicktop 2jz big single swap. Fave car.

Nice dude I made 582whp on the v6 twin turbo though and plan on 700whp next year. Vg30detts are capable of 1200whp but the Rb26 does sound cool and at least its still nissan. Cool swap.

300zx was the first "goal car" I ever had when I was 15 in '97... Then got one in 01 and got a Supra cuz my buddies had them & the 300's engine took a weekend to work on. You could pop the hood, toss dime in the engine bay and never see that dime again.
So it wouldn't make a good first car I assume...

I wish there was more RB26DETT swaps done, but It's understandable considering how unreliable they are if you compare to a 2JZ. There is also definitely the parts availability that comes into play. Amazing car !

Sweet z. vg is a pain to work on but it's rewarding -loads of torque down low at your command. Rb initial costs getting in there are quite steep. For these cars, you basically gotta love working on as much as driving it. Lot of pride from owners of the z32 specifically simply because of comradery of solving challenges with this car.

I'm not a 300zx fan (looks, complexity, weight) but I have to say this build was REALLY well done. Excellent choice of engine, those beautiful work meister wheels and a well balanced setup. Very good job to the owner indeed.

Hey Dave, why haven't you visited/reviewed/covered Springfest in VA beach? Being from VA, I would've thought that it would've come to your attention. Now I know that you're living in GA now but I think it's well worth your time. It's actually gotten much bigger in the past couple of years and it deserves some coverage/recognition. remember kids bigger turbo's isn't always the best, if the motor doesn't support the rpm to match the turbos needs..
GARAGE BUILT you can always just put a rotary and have a bigger turbo than motor 💀

This car just got on the road. He hasn't started cranking the boost yet, as it JUST got tuned after the swap. He's already built a STRONG VG that was flipped that could run with my 450+hp roadcourse FD and the Z weighed quite a bit more. He's built many fast VGs.

I've hit a 8 point buck going 60+ mph in my 300zx and it only did some minor hood damage and busted the headlight which ultimately killed it. They are very very safe
for its time it was a super car..this Z design was the sexiest.. I have one and it turns heads 30 years later..without all the speed and power. it is simply a state of art.. if you can get one ..just buy it.... rough it up.. over drive it without maint then no one will see you drive it .. keep it on the road and most will still wonder what the heck is this.. only point you made buddy is it is timeless

My first car was a 93 300zx back when i was 16 back in 05. 4 months later my brakes locked on the highway and i drifted 4 lanes hit the wall at 80mph.. walked out without a scratch but the car was totalled..$7500 gone i had pip no full coverage
