He's honestly better written than Optimus imo But yes both execution and transitions of both characters into what they eventually become is so perfectly good
Anyone who relates that D-16 was right by killing Sentinel, misses the whole point of the war between Autobots and Decepticons. Good vs. Evil. Orion believed in the heart of the people. Everyone cannot be pure from their heart, but everyone has the capacity to distinguish what is right and what is wrong and its their freedom to choose between them. He believed in sanctity of justice, like a democracy, and believed Sentinel should be punished according to law. While D-16 believed that laws were worthless and the man on the top of the mountain should decide what the law should be. Well, doesn't every monarch and tyrant believes in that philosophy. So anyone who beleives what he did was right, sir, you indirectly believe that Hitler was right too. Orion became Optimus Prime because his nobility was strong enough that even personal grudges were not able to diminish it. That's what made him worthy for the Matrix of Leadership. Congratulations guys, you are decepticons from your heart. You can say you are right, but for long term, as we see what Megatron becomes, you're all evil. Accept that too.
This is incorrect and relies on the slippery slope fallacy for support. While the Decepticons do have a general philosophy of 'might makes right' that isn't to say that they're without honor. The High Guard once served the Primes but were disillusioned due to Sentinel's reign. It's likely they never knew the depths of his deception before the events of the movie else they would have publicly called out his betrayal to rally the miners to their cause (especially with two premier tacticians like Soundwave and Shockwave as Starscream's left- and right-hand man). They witnessed Sentinel's capitulation to the Quintesson's along with the rest of Iacon, and I'm sure after seeing this, there were a number of future Autobots along with the future Decepticons who cheered the destruction of a false prophet.
@@IronDino the concept of honor changes with person to person and organisation to organisation. Yeah the High Guard did serve the primes once but even then you can speculate that their morals were already down while primes were in charge. Alpha Trion clearly stated that the war with Quintessons was a long and hefty one. It must have happened just because they were god like cybertronians, didn't gave them the privilege to just eradicate the opposition. The High Guard must have gone tired of their right and proper actions that's why we don't get any story related to the High Guard doing something to save them when Sentinel betrayed the primes. They came after Alpha Trion's message and just watched. They must have felt that the primes have bought it on themselves. On the concept of Starscream, his character has always been one of a greedy, caniving, and deeming himself the best among all. He must have felt that if he can just control the High Guard himself and take Sentinel out he would rule Iacon and whole Cybertron as a ruler. But he must have chewed his words when Sentinel became more powerful than he anticipated. Overall, my comment was not about the trajectory of decepticons as a faction. It was about why D-16 actions were not right. No doubt he has suffered a lot. Even in other iterations he was a gladiator who raised his voice against the differences between cybertronians elite and lower class. It's the method of overthrowing the top merits and himself being anointing as the righteous ruler, is questionable. Orion never believed in leading Cybertron. In every iteration he became a Prime because he wanted a planet governed for the people, by the people..much like Abe Lincoln. That was the concept while making the character of Optimus Prime. While Megatron's first catchphrase itself was "Peace through Tyranny. Rest is fodder."
I love the contrast about the fact that Megatron looks like he's risen but in reality fallen, by becoming a Monster who just killed his "Brother". Optimus looks like he's fallen but instead Rising up as a Hero, who will in the lay down his spark for others, so they can have a better future.
Yeah, nice speech defending Optimus who let Bumblebee slice up innocent bots only to then tell Megatron that Killing Sentinel is wrong. He killed dozens of Sentinel's soldiers but Megatron shouldn't kill Sentinel, Optimus Prime is a goddamn hypocrite in this movie. He was ten times better in the Bay Films.
So personally I don’t have qualms with people saying whether Sentinel should die or not for his crimes, but that’s not what this scene was really about. This was the culmination of D-16’s mental instability that kept growing more and more throughout the movie, and Orion wanting to stop him not from taking a life but from making a decision that he would not be able to come back from. Unfortunately, Orion’s own flaws failed to reach D-16. Both of them were flawed in ways that drifted them apart as time went on. Because I bet you this would have gone differently if anyone else was standing behind the trigger. if B or Elita had been the ones to take sentinel’s life, they would have probably come out ok from it, but D? this was WAY too personal for him, and especially after the whole “one bot over the other” skirmish with starscream, AND finding out his whole coping mechanism was built on a lie, he had nothing left in him but pure anger, resentment, hatred, and indifference to everyone around him.
Its always wonderful to look at comments on stuff like this and see how many people agree with a vengeance crazed murderer. And we wonder why modern society is constantly fighting about everything...
You know, now that I look at it. I think orion didn’t sacrifice himself for Sentinel to serve a sentence, I think he sacrificed himself to save D-16 from becoming like sentinel. Little did he know he would be somewhat worse than sentinel.
Somewhat? SOMEWHAT?? Bruh, Megatron is LEAGUES worse than Sentinel ever was. Sentinel was a lier and a thief, a phony. But, in a very twisted way, at least in his opinion, he thought he was doing what was right... for himself. Megatron, however, is a tyrant, a mass murderer, the giant robot equivalent of Adolf Hitler. Megatron is EVIL to his very spark. The one and only time that we have seen him be redeemed is at the end of Transformers Prime when he was freed from Unicron's control.
What would have been interesting is Orion Pax reborn, as Optimus Prime, with no memory of his past friendship with D-16. Optimus would be dutiful and determined to defeat Megatron, as he would know him as such.
We all knew d-16 would become megatron, but still, the way they did it was so good
Sometimes its the journey, not the destination
Even if you know the ending, a well told story goes a long way.
