      Absolutely. One of my lifes biggest regrets is not having the fortitude to chase my aviation dream of being a pilot. At the time the $150,000 AUD for aviation school i saw as a too bigger wall but i know peole who stacked supermarket shelves at night & got second & third jobs to make it. The things they see on the flight deck must be incredible.

    When I see this video, I think about a Frankie Boyles joke on Mock the Week:
    Topic: Unnerving things to hear from the cockpit of a plane?
    Frankie Boyle: "- This is the first cloud I ever seen with a skilift on it!"

    Hi, love the video! Would you mind answering a question? I am training for a PPL, and am very early on in my lessons, so please forgive me any loose terminology! I am looking at a visual approach plate (charts.vacc-austria.org/LOWI/LOWI_Approach_Visual%20Approach_11122014.pdf) and trying to figure out what you did. Were you to the south of "LOC OEV 255 deg", just off the straight-in line for runway 26? It looks like you come in over those ridge lines at the bottom of the chart. What a lovely approach and landing though, I am envious both of the opportunity and your skill!

    • @CockpitVideos
      @CockpitVideos  9 лет назад +1

      Mirandorl Hi :) Yes I understand, You can be confused by this visual approach. As I say in a description this was very unusual. We were asked by ATC to fly close to mountains to avoid oncoming traffic from runway 26. We didn't follow any procedure, only terrain. You can see visual circling procedure for runway 08 in this video ruclips.net/video/5v_F8fJTC1U/видео.html

      I think the last fatal accident in Innsbruck was im the 70s.

    • @FlyingBanana320
      @FlyingBanana320 5 лет назад

      Marco It was last year... in April or May I think. A swiss motorglider got caught in the "rotor" of a Foehn storm (Foehn is created by warm mediterranean air that gets pushed up to the south of the Alps, cools off while it rises along the mountains and then comes back down on the northern side of the mountain as strong downdraft. It can cause quite severe turbulence and strong winds with gusts up to 50kts) and crashed into the fence just south of the runway next to the heliport. Both occupants died.

    • @Marco-wz3ff
      @Marco-wz3ff 5 лет назад

      @@FlyingBanana320 I was refering to engine powered aircraft incidents. Also, the wikipedia does not state the incident with the glider for whatever reason. Im very familiar with Foehn storms, because i live in Tyrol.

    • @FlyingBanana320
      @FlyingBanana320 5 лет назад

      Marco well technically it was an engine powered aircraft... If you're referring to SEPs (single engine piston) and larger aircraft, then I must admit I don't know when the last fatal accident happend. Link to the a first report on the incident: www.sust.admin.ch/inhalte/AV-berichte/HB-YCM.pdf . Since it was a swiss aircraft any further reports will be published on the SUST website aswell, rather than the BMVIT.

    • @rshiva08
      @rshiva08 5 лет назад

      Most likely manual for the most part. You can tell from the ever slightly jerky nature of the videos, indicating the pilots holding onto the yoke to keep the aircraft stable. Plus most pilots disable autopilot on approach to landing.
