Some 3 years since I last caught a grayling, none this year from the Test. I found, one year, that dropping them back in was the best way of returning them, they seem to react quicker and swim off. This happens with many sea fish. You make me envious having so many nice rivers close by.
Nice video and fishing. Lovely river the Frome, fished on the Lulworth estate at Wool when in the Spinners some years back. Always good for Graying with a few Dace in the mix, nothing big but lots of them back then👍
Decades ago (I've fished it since 1970) it was much more of a mixed fishery from well above Wool right through to the tidal with dace and roach predominating but both species seem to have vanished above the tidal, possibly still some in the East Stoke sidestreams? There are still a few odd chub, carp and bream in the non-tidal river, the latter two species having got in through floods nearly a decade ago. In the past there were gudgeon and perch but I haven't seen either for many years. I am given to understand the Weld estate no longer permits any fishing.
I've got three bait waiters and that Watercraft one was designed for very slightly smaller bait boxes (the old Efgeeco ones) so what I should have done is made sure the bait box was properly in....
Glad you enjoyed the video. These were my first Frome grayling for four years; prior to that I'd had plenty but for a couple of years I struggled. The amount of grayling ebbs and flows. It was a good afternoon out on the bank.
I noticed Wareham Angling Club lost the Holme Bridge stretch, I was a really dissapointed to hear that as I had a nice 2-2.8lb+ Grayling along there once. It was always dependant on the river not being in flood. I hope they get it back!
The fishing rights have been sold on that stretch ( I don't know who owns it now) so it is less likely WDAS will be able to regain winter fishing rights.
Lovely fish Mark …….I really enjoy fishing for them in winter.

Glad it’s not just me that inadvertently sets the maggots free 😁 amazing how fast they scoot off into the undergrowth

Always the way.... the minute you turn your back the float dips! We’ve all been there 😀
Amazing what the camera picks up at times. When we've focussed on the float - easier said than done - it's amazing how many subtle bites occur.
Good to see your covering grayling mark an often overlooked fish imo.
