This is a caricature as performance art, to entertain a crowd at a corporate exhibition. Features are exaggerated, as are my movements, to entertain and raise a reaction from the dozens watching.
(PS: I lean back to zoom out, to see the whole drawing, not just the area in front of my face)

sounds like neurosis. you should look into that before getting too old
That's not uncomfortable, artists do that all the time to see better the whole piece, but to also view the possible mistakes that your brain didn't catch because you were too close to see them (also, when you see too close a thing, after a while your eye starts to get used to it so you can't tell if you did it like you wanted or not)

At various Los Angeles theme parks I’ve seen artists use a larger black “rubber” pad. Since the papers are drawn on a large clip board, these black pads are used to add “bounce” to the pressure of the tools applied. I know someone’s going to recommend just adding more paper for the same purpose, but I’ve been searching for these 18”x24” pads. The closest thing I’ve seen are “signing pads” used at stores when you’re closing out a check by the register. I’ve asked employees at these stores and caricature artists what those pads were and how to get them, but all have said they didn’t know. Any leads?
No idea, I never used a blotter or rubber pad, just direct onto bleedproof pads, no clipboard. The Rota board I'm using here is by Lega Meister (Edding).
