    Awesome! I will have to poke my outer door gasket back in a little on my ‘77. Its attached, but when I close door and it now bulges out a little. Hmmm

      Getting these CJ hard doors to align right and gaskets to sit perfect is one of the most time consuming and frustrating parts of my restoration.

    Great Video! Helped me a ton. One recommendation is to use some sort of soap for lubrication. Also, I didnt mark which side of the door each window went too. It took me a second to realize theres a differnence when putting it back together.

    • @coolguy_CJ7
      @coolguy_CJ7  2 года назад +1

      Maybe I didn’t explain in the video well enough, but I thought I talked about using dish soap (Dawn) as the lubricant. I’ll have to go back and rewatch myself :) and you are absolutely correct about the windows. They not only have a bend to them, but the bottom of the window can only fit one way with the door frame. Should’ve called that out in the video.

    Thanks again for another great video. I'm stuck on my install. I just put in the fixed vent and the track next to the fixed vent does not want to pop I to the window rail slot. What's the trick to get the gasket into the slot rail? I'm forcing it in but nervous I'm gonna break it

    great vid just stripped my doors getting them ready for paint, just thinking did you do the coating and sealing and then paint inside and out, as mine has a load of looks like old waxoil type goo inside , not sure which order to do first, thanks for your help hopefully cheers

    • @coolguy_CJ7
      @coolguy_CJ7  Год назад

      Sorry so late in response. My order would be this…
      1) remove all hardware (windows, handles, bolts, screws, gaskets…etc)
      2) strip all coatings (choice of process is up to you) acid bath, sandblast, wire rush and paint stripper)
      3) spray all seams with east woods internal frame coating or rust converter/sealer. To the point where it drips out.
      4) apply primer/sealer
      5) paint
      6) reassemble
      There’s a few smaller details in the but you get the idea. For the wax coating, you should be able to bake it off.

      All of the gaskets were Fairchild. Either Rock Auto or Amazon if Rock Auto didn’t have them. Let me know if you can’t find them.

    Great stuff. I am in the process of planning to do a restoration of my Dad's 82 CJ7 that he willed to me. One thing that I noticed is now rough the movements were for the hardware after 40yrs. I was carefully watching you install the hardware and noticed that you did not video the addition of lubrication to any of the hardware. In this case the window gear. My door is a bit more complex in regard to moving parts. More aligned with the door used in your harddoor disassembly that had the moving vent window. So in short, do you apply any type of lubrication to the internals on any of the doors you reassemble?

    • @coolguy_CJ7

      Adding lithium grease to any latching components or gears is recommended.

      Didn’t film it. I apologize. I did film the 81-86 paddle handle doors because they are a lot more complicated with the locking and handle complements.

      Greetings. Nobody makes those as aftermarket and there isn’t any other options for that style of door handle. So, I recommend that you reach out to Ray Moulton. He is the best in the business and has everything. Great with prices and shipping. Email me at dellis6914@gmail.com and I’ll give you his contact info.
      Your other option is to hopefully find a set on FB market place and pay a small mortgage for them. :)

    Nice job, good video. Where did you source your fixed window rubber? Also, did you re-build your latches? I looked through your videos but was unable to find where you worked on them, mine are in desperate need of a re-build, so any info would be great. Thanks and keep up the great videos.

      I carefully removed my fixed window gaskets so as to reuse them since they were still very pliable. Rock Auto has them if you need new ones though. In regards to the door handles, I sand blasted mine, then soaked them in a degreaser for a few hours, rinsed out all the blasting media and then powder coated them aluminum silver. Lastly, I lubricated them up really well. You can drill out the pop rivets and open it up easily enough. I did that on a spare just to see what the inside looked like.
