      That is why I buy popcorn, but I sneak in precooked bacon, a beer, and some candy. Oh and better napkins too. Just repackage food in zip lock bags, sneaking in noisy packaging is rude. 20 years ago or more, when they didn't search you, I took a whole Chinese takeout order to Red Bronx and shared it with the other 6 people in my row 👍👍
      Now-a-days, I bring the smallest purse I can and hide my food in a big cell phone battery bank (which smells like bacon 🤣🤣) and I have a coat several times to big for me and have an internal beer pocket. If I am paranoid I use my popcorn to shield any lump while opening it and letting them glance inside my purse. I have never had them go through it while holding recently purchased popcorn. Just about anyone I see caught didn't get food or a drink.
      Pro tip 😁

Currently, crypto in general has seen massive losses and a lot of people believe prices have been close to bottoming out. I think they’re taking a bet that the price of 1 Ethereum will skyrocket and they can make a huge gain on their investment. Just my two cents

    VERY interesting concept. If we can define the whole NFT space a bit more, things like this could be a generally cool idea. Eventually be no different than like "Apple Pay" for example where you scan your phone and pay. Now we have specific NFTs for people who enjoy specific things who they scan their phone and go. Others who dont partake as often can just pay normally.
    NFT in itself has gotten a bad rep, a digital token or card is just as viable so if we get past the bad notion of the scams and crap, we could be onto something good.
    Cheers Ben. Hope you and the family are well.

    • @hackladdy9886
      @hackladdy9886 Год назад

      @@AnDr3w066 There actually are a fair amount with some form of utility. (Although I will admit there is still waaaaay too many that are just meaningless JPEGs) Some are just used as a way to represent an overall financial position (UniV3-LP), to make the entire position easily tradeable, you can also just have it be like an achievement/record of events you attended (POAPs), or it can be an access pass that doesn't have to live directly on a single company's servers. I've also seen stuff like Layer3 that also uses them like achievements, where you do certain tasks, learn about something in the process, then get an NFT that acts like a badge in the process.
      NFTs are generally only needed if you want something that either:
      - Needs to work with a standard format/be interoperable
      - Needs to be free from a company's access controls
      - Want to keep your digital stuff on public infrastructure rather than private infrastructure
      In the case of the unlimited popcorn NFT, while it didn't really meet any of these requirements, it doesn't mean the NFT was necessarily a worse decision than having it on their own database, as the only difference is really what database the purchase is stored on, a private, corporate database, or a public, free infrastructure database. Now, if they'd kept the rewards tied to scanning an app that held the NFT, rather than a physical bucket, NFT infra could end up being better, as they could have earned extra revenue on secondary sales, without ever needing to build their own marketplace or sale system, which would be more beneficial than just selling it once in their app.
      Remember, NFTs are just a standard format for a unique, digital *thing*, which can be literally anything, and can be used for any purpose. NFTs aren't necessarily the *right* option for any given use case, but they're not necessarily always the *wrong* one either.

    Honestly, i think this is a cool thing if you like the experience of the movies. A way an NFT that isn't a scam....yet.... I mean American Airlines did "unlimited flights for a lifetime" eventually they got rid of it by basically catching them violating the terms, or making it hard to use. This is honestly the first time I have seen an NFT, that actually seems like I would get (if I had the way extra money). Just seems like a fun thing. B/C There's no reason to get this for the point of selling it later. Even if they cancel the program, but the NFT enforces a legal contract or whatever.. (IDK how they work 100%), no one is gonna pay double what you paid for unlimted popcorn at a movie theater chain i never heard of (must be regional).

    I used to work for AMC back in the 90s, our markup on popcorn back then was something like 3000%. Also, the ‘salt’ was something called Savorall which was specifically used to make you more thirsty so you’d want a soda. And the soda syrup/water ratio was extra sweet so you’d crave something salty.

    You should be able to sell this NFT. I'd pro-rate it of course but you should be able to get back about 80% of the investment but you'd be a Pleasant person if you gave the bucket to the purchaser.
    Personally I'd keep the NFT and bucket if I had it. It's _a nice bucket_ and when the 5 years is up, it's _an ice bucket._

    Even though it costs twice as much as the movie ticket, a large quality popcorn and large drink are as much a part of the experience as the movie itself.
    I make my own with a classic popper, but it takes the right kind of coconut oil, the right kind of butter that you "make" yourself. It is a lot of work, relatively speaking, for a once-in-a-while bucket, but we eat about three buckets a week and it actually stays fresh for that long. Well worth the price of the popper if you like it like I do.

  • @skylarkblue1
    @skylarkblue1 Год назад +4

    This could very easily not be an NFT (I mean, literally the bucket is what's giving you the free thing), but I'll admit, this is a pretty good way to do NFTs (that is, as long as they really do keep to the 5 years). 38 buckets of popcorn over 5 years is not actually that much, you could very easily reach that if you frequent the cinema. Weirdly finally a major company doing NFTs that isn't a major scam or something weird.

    • @killaken2000

      my local theater had a free or reduced price refill soda program where you buy the cup for a certain amount. Every time you go to the theater you just bring the special cup with you.

    The cinema company got you to pay $300 to go there 38 times in 1.5 months, all because they called it an NFT and not a membership card. The power of marketing. Also if they wanted to increase foot traffic, this is an ingenius way to do it.

    This is a decent concept for what an NFT actually should be for (proof of ownership of something that can be transfered, in this case a membership to unlimited popcorn).
    ...but then they ruin that by just sending a bucket which functions as the real membership card, making the NFT essentially meaningless...

    I worked at a cinema once and its made the same as the little machine. The only difference is size and maybe the type of oil they use. Most use canola oil or a blend or coconut oil and canola oil. In the old days cinemas used 100% coconut oil. Very unhealthy...but the corn tasted amazing and adicitive! The other thing is the butter salt that is dumped in the kettle with the corn. We called ours Flavour Glow. Haha. Those are the same things that go in the small machine more or less. So it should taste about the same.

    A lot of theaters don’t pop their popcorn. It comes pre-popped in large plastic bags. They dump it into the bin at the concession stand to warm the popcorn and give the illusion that it’s freshly popped. The profit theaters make on popcorn and pop / soda drinks is insanely high.

I hadn't been to a movie since 2019, finally went back, was excited for it, $15 later for a large soda and popcorn and I swear they gave me week old stale popcorn, then when I asked for a refill after "oh you need to be part of AMC rewards for that".
