2 months ago I had a random thought wondering how big ants would have to be to pose a formidable threat to humans in the same way they do other insects that they eat. The thought consumed me for some reason and it's all I thought about for the next 3 days. Eventually I started looking up videos to learn more about ants and try to feed this newly found obsession I had with them. I didnt see them until they started climbing up my leg and biting me when I was trying to pick some tomatoes!!!! Omg it hurt so bad!!!!!!!!!!!! My kid heard me yelling and came running over of course and ended up getting a couple on her because they were swarming and she was all bitten up too...I know it wasnt their fault but jeezus they are accurately named CRAZY ants!! I had never seen or heard of any ant like them in my area until this happened...my daughter was terrified of ants until I took her to the insectarium in Montreal and she saw the leaf cutter ants up there...now she begs to go see them again. Its amazing how adaptable a species can be. I for one am still good to never run into these guys ever again...

Hey why don't you mix the fire nation as soon as the queen dies with a black crazy ant colony, by getting one of the queens out of the colony and making a trail black crazy ant colony since it will continue to thrive
I also noticed that strange behavior while trying to introduce foreign queens into my colony, and from the three attempts I made, two of them resulted in the queen being killed by the workers. Great Colonies BTW.
I've used to took care of those black crazy ants and i accidentally touched the queen, the saddest part is when i put her back to her colony, the workers killed her maybe because she smelled differently
Yeah. Those odorless house ants absolutely love my kitchen sink. I keep it as clean as possible but they just love the fact that there's readily available water. Fortunately, they don't tend to venture far from the sink as I haven't seen them elsewhere in my home.

The entire worker structure, a convenient way for the one insect, the queen, to keep herself safe and fed without directly risking herself. Just a really intriguing repurposing of the reproductive machinery.

Hey man, wanna share an old beekeeper's trick with you to keep your ants from killing any more queens in the future. You can make a little queen-holder out of some mesh in order to introduce the queen to your hive. If the bees swarm the queen, you'll know she was rejected. But if they largely leave her alone, that means she's been accepted. Maybe the same principle can be applied to ants. I hope that helps.

As usual there can be exceptions to this fertillized eggs becoming workers rule. I thought of this out recently, and some ant, bee, and wasp species will lay unfertillized eggs that become worker ants. This process is called reversible fertilization, and it can be effective in harsh places and to extend the lifespan of the queen. After the alates mate each other, the males die off, and the queens will begin to build their own nests. Instead of using valuable sperm for fertilizing eggs into workers, this queen ant lay unfertile eggs that become workers. And she uses her sperm only during nuptial flights. The main downside of this approach is that the eggs will always become one type of worker. And worker ants are female, even if the eggs they came from are fertilized or not. The queen ant will use her sperm to produce winged alates(both male and queen alates). The best advantage is that this process can extend the queen’s lifetime to incredible lengths. Even up to 30 years. We have not found any evidence of this happening. But queen ant species of polygamous ants, can do this through parthenogenesis. But all the clones she has produced will only lay eggs that become males.

I also noticed that strange behavior while trying to introduce foreign queens into my colony, and from the three attempts I made, two of them resulted in the queen being killed by the workers. Great Colonies BTW.

I've used to took care of those black crazy ants and i accidentally touched the queen, the saddest part is when i put her back to her colony, the workers killed her maybe because she smelled differently

Yeah. Those odorless house ants absolutely love my kitchen sink. I keep it as clean as possible but they just love the fact that there's readily available water. Fortunately, they don't tend to venture far from the sink as I haven't seen them elsewhere in my home.
I think you should name them "The Immortal Legion" cause i think that it really represents the basic principle of this kind of ant :D

Ant reproduction really is fascinating, as they are a fine example of a wild adaptation to the "normal" methodology. In a sense, the queen ant, and the future queens and males are the species. The entire worker structure, a convenient way for the one insect, the queen, to keep herself safe and fed without directly risking herself. An expendable, replaceable, sterile workforce whose priorities remain with the queen, because she is their only method to have their genes passed on, well... normally. Just a really intriguing repurposing of the reproductive machinery.

Hey man, wanna share an old beekeeper's trick with you to keep your ants from killing any more queens in the future.
You can make a little queen-holder out of some mesh in order to introduce the queen to your hive. If the bees swarm the queen, you'll know she was rejected. But if they largely leave her alone, that means she's been accepted.
Maybe the same principle can be applied to ants. I hope that helps.

As usual there can be exceptions to this fertillized eggs becoming workers rule.
I thought of this out recently, and some ant, bee, and wasp species will lay unfertillized eggs that become worker ants.
This process is called reversible fertilization, and it can be effective in harsh places and to extend the lifespan of the queen.
After the alates mate each other, the males die off, and the queens will begin to build their own nests.
Instead of using valuable sperm for fertilizing eggs into workers, this queen ant lay unfertile eggs that become workers.
And she uses her sperm only during nuptial flights.
The main downside of this approach is that the eggs will always become one type of worker.
And worker ants are female, even if the eggs they came from are fertilized or not.
The queen ant will use her sperm to produce winged alates(both male and queen alates).
The best advantage is that this process can extend the queen’s lifetime to incredible lengths.
Even up to 30 years.
We have not found any evidence of this happening.
But queen ant species of polygamous ants, can do this through parthenogenesis.
But all the clones she has produced will only lay eggs that become males.
