After removing a near mint dash pad on a 87 for my 90 in the junkyard. I realised you dont need to remove the windsheild. The thin brittle vinyl thats bolted on with the bolts under the windshield gasket.. lol those were so brittle and cracked the bolts arent really holding it down. You could take a long thin adapter with a razor blade under the windsheild gasket and cut it off where the bolts are Honestly between the 50 screws and small nuts holding the pad to the dash itself and the windshield gasket pressing down on it itll hold a new dash down fine without those bolts under the windshield. I mean look how tore up your vinyl is where those bolts are under the windhshield gasket lol. You coulda just pulled/yanked it out from under the windshield. And as you said most of your tabs were rotted off. It wasnt holding anything down But in your case i guess its good you took the windshield out with all that rust. My 90 Had alot of rust on the floors. And the frame specially bythe gas tank. And those horribly designed shock mounts in the front. But so far im lucky my pillars are in good shape. So far.
Thanks for the video. I'm going to go try to save a perfect black dash pad in a junkyard 2 door cherokee. It's in a crush pile with a ford ranger crunching the roof down. Hopefully I can save it.
I noticed that most, if not all, the tabs near the windshield broke. If I were cover over the pad and used a washer on top, do you think that would suffice? Maybe glue a washer to the backside as well? Too thick?
Hello dear friend, excuse my ignorance but could you tell me why this black knob with a strange symbol looks like a dart? (minute 3:12) is under the cigarette lighter? Or could someone tell me please?
If you’re referring to the knob with the airflow arrow symbol, those two are located on the lower portion of the dash attached to the air flow blend doors that are housed within the kick panel. They are cable controlled and feed through the plastic vent plate. Left goes to the driver side and right goes to passenger. All the best brother.
I hate the dash pad on my old wagoneer. Going back to older style dash. Bare metal so you split your eye open without a seat belt. Your hands are also too big to work on a Kia for sure. I used some 1/4 inch plywood for door cards. I got the vinyl covered plywood with aged wood. This year I need to tackle floor boards and rear window. Nothing moves or works on rear tailgate. All screws to access it are rusted beyond hope. Gonna drill them out.

This was the answer I needed to give me the courage to yank the pad without taking out my windshield.
How in the world do you get to the fasteners behind the passenger side top dash. Basically the two top oval holes on the dash crease passenger side
Adorable assistant mechanic!
Great bud. So dash is off - did you do a video on the rest of the (metal dash) I want to remove and paint.

Great video!
Any chance you know the thread pitch and count of the dash pad torque bolts?
*Edit- 1/4" x 20 is the magic number
I would like to know how hard it is to put the retro glove box in.

Might be too thick. You could sandwich in a piece of plastic or a thin nylon washer.
if you still have it lying around I might be interested in a lightly used dashpad
This one has a lot of water damage. It looks good in the video, but its pretty far gone.
Nice! Just found your channel! Just what I've been looking for..any possible videos of the carb set up..vac lines etc?
Which engine are you running?
@@bryan350sb the amc360 painted torque n teal!. And running the dual carb holly performance I believe...

Did you R&R your gauge cluster and circuit board?
Cluster was already out when I got the older one. I haven't decided on what I'm doing for gauges in my 1980.
