- 2008 BMW R1200GS motor starter replacement. The starter was giving intermittent problems. I purchased an aftermarket starter from Carpi Moto (www.carpimoto.com/en-US/). They carry WAI products. Installations was quite straight forward and the result has been good! Hope this helps others with similar issues.
It’s specific on the BMW R1200GS but it should be similar to other bikes as well. Авто/Мото
You make it look so easy.
Great job..👏
Ini macam no need to go AB. Buy parts go your house sir. Good job sir😃
Amazing work done
thank you for your video. this motning I fixed my r1200gs 2004 starter ... you save me... thank ~
Glad to be of service! You are most welcome.
I believe the old starter only needed a good clean and lube at the business end of it and will work quite well. Good clip regardless.
Probably. The original starter is quite a sturdy part. Thanks.

Hello
It's so easy when i did it with your tuto. Thank you very much.
But i've a question : Ilt's not dangerous without the plastic cover? It's possible to modify it?
Glad that the video was of help to you. The plastic cover is basically to protect from dust I believe. I don't think it's particularly dangerous with the new aftermarket unit, without the cover. It is possible to modify the cover but it doesn't really have a good fit.
Hello. I found a Wai Motor on ebay un the UK and its marketed as heavy duty. Would you expect it to make a bigger drain on the battery each time it starts as its heavy duty or not?
Thankyou.
It is heavy duty and requires higher battery strength. My previous battery weak battery could not turn the motor. Having said this, my new battery has no significant battery drain with this new motor compared to my previous motor/battery.
I would say its jsut a new batterie needed?! Dont know... my 1200gs had same problem, was jsut an old batterie...
What did you spray inside the hole?
WD 40 - High performance grease
How is the wai starter motor still lasting ?
So far so good. I haven’t had any issues with the motor till now.
Hello Guy, to do what you did, do you have to remove the muffler ?
It is not necessary to remove the muffler. However, it is easier to manage if you remove the muffler because the new starter is longer.
I had to remove the exhaust servo box, but not the muffler. Invest in a flexible socket extension for the inner/lower starter bolt. I used a u-joint adapter and it was very wobbly.
My motorcycle when it heats up will have the same condition as yours, but when it cools down, it will start normally, can you tell me its condition???
I had the same problem, is a starter problem!! I am in process to change it, I hope the problem finish
sorry for the late reply! Try checking on your battery - a slightly weak battery can create this problem as well.
everytime these stupid music.
We have to make do for a free to use music.😁
