Tbf, as much as I dislike the SD70s, you can kinda tell that the A&M needed them considering they could have 6 C420s on a larger train. Better that you have half that number of engines that have double the horsepower.
what part of Ft smith are the ALCo's running at? I've bern doing runs over to the I-549 to MP 10 area, I plan on going back over there on my off duty time
Bill Porter The A&M yard in Ft. Smith is at 35.401483,-94.414311 They run Alcos on the local jobs out of there. The turn from Springdale has the new EMDs.
lightnindash 3804 yes, they only got 3 SD70s for their road trains. All of the Alcos were kept for locals, yard work and contract switching operations.
really like the T6's I have a couple of HO Models on the RR.. Great to see them in operation!! Thanks for sharing
Nothing like the sound of the ALCO's Great video!
I sure like the 16 and the 14 of A&M.

Not to mention that getting the 420s off those heavy pulls will extend their lives for many more years working locals and switch jobs.
these alcos are still in service and will Not be scrapped they are still used for passenger trains and freight trains I live in Fort smith
Golly I miss Alcos in the northeast. By the way, does the former Rutland 400 still run? I spend my time taking care of sister 405.
Its 2018. The Alcos are still here...
I love Alcos
If they're being replaced, are they going to a good home or just being scrapped? Couple shortlines still running Alcos here in PA.
They are keeping all the Alcos for now. They will be used for switching on line and for contract switching services.

second query, what sorta power are the road bringing in?, and what will be the status of the original power?

third query, the lift bridge still in operation?, been looking at that one, and the two in Little rock( well sort of, traffic)
Bill Porter yes I believe they still use the lift bridge. the yard I gave you the coordinates for requires crossing it.
kosher, I get a big ol' kick out seeing that type bridge in operation
Sorry I'm from NE Missouri. So is that the Arkansas River they are crossing on your video ?
Yes it is.
Thanks, i thought it looked big & not just a normal river & i should know, we have a few BIG rivers here .....LOL

I'm shure they kept some of their alcos

Yes, but not in 6 unit sets on main line trains.
