I've read several of Nora Ephron's books, Heartburn being just one of them. I'll preface this saying; I love Nora Ephron's humor. I love her style of writing because she rights exactly the same way she would have a conversation with her reader. Her belief that "everything is copy" shines through in Heartburn which she says is based on her marriage (and ultimately her divorce) from Washington Post writer Carl Berstein of Watergate fame and his infidelity to her while being pregnant with their second child. It is the perfect example of taking a horrible, painful situation and turning it into a good read with all of the names changed to protect her from lawsuits. Speaking of which, Bernstein had the gall to insist that she make changes to the book and the movie to make him look like less of a schmuck. Sorry Carl, you're a schmuck. Her final documentary film, "Everything is Copy" directed by her son Jason Berstein exposes the truth about his parents less than amicable divorce-much to his father's chagrin. It honestly makes me sad that out of the two of them, Nora is the one who's life was cut short by cancer.
