      While Rachel is talking about not seeing the red flags in a marriage, she is ACTUALLY talking about her OWN marriage to Mark. What's more is that as Rachel is talking, Mark has a look that he KNOWS who she is talking about and that is something is going to happen. Hence, Rachel slamming the pie in Mark's face.

    • @williamlandolfi7858
      @williamlandolfi7858 2 года назад +3

      Not only did Mark spend a ton of money on a very expensive necklace for Thelma, his girlfriend/mistress, but that money was JUST on the DOWN PAYMENT. On top of that, Mark did this when Rachel was about to give birth to their second child. If that's not bad enough, the jeweler acidentally tells Rachel this when she (Rachel) goes to get her wedding ring tightened.

      Not only was Rachel hesitant about marrying Mark but Mark's own best friends, Arthur and Julie, warned her just before the ceremony that he (Mark) had "been terrible to women" for the 20 plus years that they were friends with him. An interesting thing I noticed is that in the very beginning of the movie, Mark is seen with a woman who is obviously his date at the wedding ceremony. This is where Rachel inquires about Mark and is told that he is "Very single." Then in the next scene, Mark is flirting and talking to Rachel and asking to go out with her immediately. He obviously dropped the woman who had been his date for any other woman who came along.

      Oh please. The Catholic church has its total and absolute control over procreation/birth control, divorce, everything, meanwhile raking in so much money they are the richest entity on the planet. I dont see the Catholic church paying anyones bills. When their congregants finally open their eyes they will find a greedy, self-serving, hypocrisy and by then it will ge too late. Ex Catholic here telling it like it is. And dont get get me started on the pedophiles within the ranks.

    • @allys744
      @allys744 Год назад

      That’s true. As a catholic myself, divorce should only be allowed during unfortunate instances of abuse and even infidelity. If someone cheats on their spouse, they might as well divorce since the adulterer didn’t take their vows seriously anyways

    • @misselanys1219
      @misselanys1219 Год назад

      @@allys744 LOL Roman Catholicism is nothing more than a cult. You worship a man, forbidden to read the Holy Bible unless it is interpreted by your leader- man, forbidden to pray directly to God but instead need a middle man- a literal barrier between you and God, worship several idols in the form of saints and Mary, look to a man to forgive your sins and generally blocked from the true teachings of Jesus Christ the savior. And dont bother trying to argue. I was born and raised in a stern Italian Catholic family and attended 12 years in a Catholic school and a Jesuit college.

      @@MsVorpalBlade , From what I could see in the movie, Rachel didn't have any real conversations with Thelma. In fact, Thelma only appeared in two scenes in the whole movie. However, Rachel was friendly with Betty. It was Betty who gossiped about Thelma first. Yes, Rachel started a rumor to Betty about Thelma having Herpes but she didn't do it until after she realized that Mark still was having the affair with Thelma as well as the fact that Mark bought a VERY expensive necklace for Thelma. Yes, I want to point out that in the dinner scene, when Betty talks about the party she is going to have for Thelma, Rachel doesn't show any sign of anger. It is not until after Rachel shoves the pie in Mark's face in front of all the other guests that she "will not be able to attend the party for Thelma."

    Yes Meryl was perfect in this scene. She was just at the jeweler. The jeweler says "Oh hi how didya like the necklace ? That's when she knew the husband was still seeing his girlfriend. Then she finds out that he spent almost his entire life savings for the downpayment ? She ends up selling her ring to the jeweler and leaving him. Meryl daughter is in the movie too - she's in the ending scene.

    • @williamlandolfi7858
      @williamlandolfi7858 Год назад

      I think Rachel suspected that Mark was still seeing Thelma before the scene where the jeweler spilled the beans about the necklace. First, we see Rachel going through the TV channels and finds every program on the TV echos her own personal situation (cheating spouse). There is a montage where Rachel is talking on the phone to Julie about how she had prepared meals for Mark each night and he (Mark) would say how good the meal was. Then each time, Rachel would search for evidence that showed he was still seeing Thelma. One night, she looked in his wallet for receipts. Another night, she checked his credit cards. Also, she checked in the pockets of his clothes while doing laundry. Hence, she suspected Mark was still seeing Thelma. However, when the Jeweler revealed that Mark spent a ton of money on the necklace and Rachel knew that Mark didn't buy her one, that confirmed to her that Mark was still seeing Thelma. I bet that was the final straw for her.

    The crazy thing is she didn’t even want to get married

      Rachel had been married once before. She was first saying to Mark that she didn't want to get married again. Then, almost immediately, she and Mark get married. Rachel seems to stay in her room and has cold feet while all the guests are in their seats. Mark's friends Arthur and Julie tell Rachel that Mark had "been terrible to women" for 20 plus years. I think Rachel knew that something was off but either could not or did not want to see the red flags. Maybe she thought this might be her last chance to get married and/or have children. It seems like it was not long after they got married that they had their first kid.

    this part was so fun, to see, men, you can't live with them, and your also can't live with out them. so what were to do , what, what, either we put up with there every thing, and look the other way, witch is what a lot of women do, to just say hay, i got a man, a man thats cheeting you, and cheeting on you, with every skirt, or we just stay single, and be alone, an i gess thats why partly why i'm still single and alone. cause i dont want too put up with this behavor. i dont i don't it hurts too much.

    Again this art imitating life. Nicholson was playing Carl Bernstein of the Washington Post and Streep playing the role of Nora Ephron and their disastrous marriage which included Bernstein having an affair with a diplomat's wife and the resulting trauma falling on Ephron.
