AlexMoby you must be joking this crap deserved nul points, typical of the U.K. can’t think of a year in recent memory where this didn’t deserve to come in last.
@@aleksanderpagels288 Meh, I wouldnt say that. Britain would do extremely well at Eurovision if we made an effort to send CURRENT British music, but we always send stuff that last charted in the UK in 1989.
2005 was the first year my parents let me stay up and watch Eurovision with them (I was 8 at the time). The UK and Greece were my favourite entries and they still are. I was very happy Greece won but also upset to see the UK finish so low with a really good song imo and great choreography. Touch my fire will always have a special place in my heart as it was the first Eurovision song I loved.
It was really common to copy the previous winner. The two previous winners were Turkey "everyway that I can" 2003 and Ukraine "wild dances" 2004 that were very ethnic and mysterious songs so everybody started adapting similar ideas.
The uk has sent some bad songs to Eurovision over recent years but this isn’t one of them. Javine is an A-class performer and this is a bop. I still don’t get why she didn’t finish top 10. 🇬🇧
OK. So something with some turkic influence and fire 🔥 in it is always coming 22nd. This case was repeated in 2014. But it is my favourite place LONG LIVE THE NUMBER 22❤️
It doesn't matter where or who she is representing, any one is aloud to adopt any sound they choose and many songs from eastern europe end up sounding Northern or western!
@Matt Taylor Well in this case the problem is the reintroduction of the jury that keeps "apolitically" voting for blunt, boring Scandinavian and other Northern European songs. Flavorless like their food.
Eurovision now relies a lot on backing tracks/ an layered backing vocals.. I remember javine had a throat infection during this, backing vocals would have helped her performance a lot
recently found out that she was almost a Girls Aloud member & had to check out her music out of curiosity and this is a bop, reminds me of Fuego but i personally don’t mind as i looove this genre
Those moaning about how bad this was back then are very lucky that Javine beat Jordan to represent the UK. Imagine if that thing had won and got to represent the UK?! LOL. Absolute square bottom of the pile for sure. At least Javine looked incredible, performed superbly and gave a solid vocal (at parts shaky, but what do you expect when youre throwing yourself around on stage when doing choreo!). This was epic, and I still love watching this. Severely underrated!
UK thought that just combining the winners of 2003 and 2004 together would win in 2005. Very good performance and song, so out of line with UK entries at the time.
To be fair Javine had the package hence why she got the job. The voice, the song and the performance. People saying its too Turkish, there were a lot of r&b songs that were using Eastern influences in that time period (think Christina Milian - 'Dip It Low'/ Rakim - 'Truth Hurts', Jamelia - 'DJ'). Sadly the death sentence draw (2nd), too many similar styled songs and sandwiched between two favourites (Hungary and Malta) were what contributed. I think its a good song and any other year we would have scored better. It is probably our most underrated entry. Katie Price who was second in the selection would have probably scored more and stood out with her image and had a more popish song but the right call was made with Javine.
Great song but drawn in the dreaded second spot to perform. 2005 was the year when the Big Four, UK, Germany, Spain and France all mysteriously finished in the bottom four positions too.
God is at work in u, with u & 4 u! In times of uncertainty the most certain thing we have is the word of God. “Things r going to happen so fast ur head will swim, one thing fast on the heels of the other. U won’t be able to keep up...Everywhere u look, blessings!" Amos 9:13-15
Awesome, but too Turkish for Great Britain's standards. That's why it didn't score higher. If Turkey had gone with this song, it would had been possibly a winner
We have a very diverse culture. I mean, one of my best friend's mother is Lebanese, my great-grandma was Irish, my other friend's mother is from Hong Kong ... English is only a de facto language and not actually official, I've wrote songs and sent them as eurovision ones from the public to the BBC in Finnish, German, Dutch and Spanish.
Rock Man Javine was sick during the performance and the Big 4 was disliked by most of the countries this year. Only Turkey, Malta, Cyprus and Ireland gave us point this year. The entry would have suited 2004 as it was hosted in Turkey and this song is Turkish.
@@shianhiggins what so bad about it? You can tell they put alot of passion on stage, need to remember She beaten katie price. Of she did it, it would've been a disaster.
Yeah i dont know this floped, You can you tell their putting alot of passion on the performance. But i think the name of the song Touch my fire, well javine said "its a metaphor for getting down and dirty". And also it was in the bad Luck draw of being number 2.
If this performed between 18 and the end it would have got at least 50 points, but being at the start and the recaps I believe didn't include clips of the songs yet made it become forgotten over Greece etc
an underrated bop. still sounds fire this day
yes.....Unfortunately she represented the UK

2005 was a strong year but honestly, iot's perhaps the most underrated British entry since 2000.
