Thanks! I appreciate the kind words. To be honest, when I watch this back, I only see the mistakes I made. I guess I'm too much of a perfectionist. And no, this is not tool assisted at all. I thought that would be obvious from the fact that I repeatedly mistimed dodging enemy attacks in the Manhattan Street 2 boss gauntlet. I also screwed up getting into the first secret room at 5:36, missed the water tower toss at 7:25, accidentally left the secret room at 49:29 prematurely and wasted several lives failing to get into the final secret room at 1:01:29 (I was standing in the wrong spot). I also missed a continue that I didn't know was there during The Alley around 9:25. You have to swing up to a higher level after standing on the dumpster. I didn't know about it until I uploaded this and someone left a comment telling me. Going back to 49:29, that is the big mistake. I don't remember what I was trying to do when I started jumping around but I accidentally jumped right out of the level. If you stick around another thirty seconds or so, you fight a gauntlet of enemies at one hit health. Every enemy in the game appears, including the Muzzoid robot and even Carnage. If you make it through the gauntlet, you get extra continues and lives. Of course, it would have been completely meaningless since you can only carry 9 lives and I never needed a continue. But it would have been cool to show people it is there.
@MrFantasticTV I loved this game and beat it a couple of times. I never knew you could spin enemies in a circle while holding them tho. How did you do that?

This was a tough game to beat, but after you get the hang of it your pretty much set to doing it. Also I like the sega version a lot more on account of the carnage laughing being much more creepy.
This game was full of secrets that I stumbled upon back in the day. Really specific stuff with zero clues like a specific attack near a water tower or a swing at a place in the sewers that would take you to a bonus room or fight. I think I only beat this game once and walked away a champion. I never perfected the mechanics as well as this guy though.
Dat boss music!! Arguably the best playthrough of this game on RUclips. Good job. I never finished it and I don't think I ever will. There just has to be an easier way to beat that Doppelganger.
+Pikkon89 Thanks for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed the vid. And the best way to beat Doppelganger--and the super-villain bosses in general--is just to use the Sonic Gun and other superhero icons. Also, Venom is much better in boss fights than Spider-Man. You're not really supposed to play anything like I did in this video. I deliberately do everything the hard way because doing things the easy way is kinda boring. Well, except for botching the water tower toss on the first rooftop level. That was just a blunder, heh.
+Mr. Fantastic I've always felt that the game is much easier with Venom but I also feel like it's longer too. I can beat all of the other bosses but the Doppelganger is the only one that gives me a headache.
+Pikkon89 Understandable. Doppelganger is especially tough in the later stages if you KO Shriek before him (he goes berserk). That's why it's good to save the Sonic Gun and use it on Doppelganger and Shriek together. Then you can use Deathlok vs. Carrion and Demogoblin, and Dagger vs. Carnage. Venom's stages take more time in the first half of the game and less in the second half. The fastest route is definitely to choose Spider-Man after the church level and then pick Venom after Prospect Park II. You can also visit the Statue of Liberty secret room to pick up tons of superhero icons and you skip the Police Station, Manhattan Rooftop and Manhattan Street 1. The Statue of Liberty is the secret room most people seem to not know about, which is a shame since it's definitely the best in the game.
+Mr. Fantastic That actually explains a lot. I usually take out Shiek first. I find her to be the biggest threat because she's energy beam happy. I'll have to break out the Genesis and try this. I need closure. Thanks for the advice and for the info on the secret rooms.
@@Kingbossdon it's a very simple beat 'em up. You can put almost anyone in it besides Spider-Man and Venom to control and it wouldn't really change much. It has fantastic production values though. Seperation Anxiety was insanely rushed so it's no surprise Maximum Carnage is the better product.

@@Divineniijigamer Separation Anxiety came out a year after Maximum Carnage , and while they are similar in Spidey's and Venom's movesets , they are two different games. SNES player also.

I never played this but I did play Separation Anxiety. I've only today been learning that was a sequel and not a sister version, and seeing the ending to this and the final fight with Carnage in that has him breaking from a glass container does make that case more clear.
Murder at 50:10 and 50:14 Spider Man straight up killed those guys, lol. Great video. Played this as kid. I remember the red SNES cartridge. I got to Carnage at the end a few times, but I don’t remember if I beat him. I was real young so I didn’t know how to call assists or do certain moves, but I was always excited when they’d happen randomly. I remember Demogoblin and me just slugging it out. He always gave me a lot of trouble.
Hint: if you shoulder-charge the enemy continuosly and multiple times, the Spidey/Venom special move (that happens when the health bar start to blink) happen more often.
Hah, first set of enemies I came up with the same strategy. Webbing enemies is very useful for the momentary break. For the first bonus room I find climbing to the top right corner of the window with your body over it is most consistent. Against the ladies as Spiderman I take it the grab and release loop works in the Genesis version. Against Doppleganger during the climb I racked up many points but I'd never get a life. Curiously, I managed to take him out for good and he was lying dead on one of the ledges. No clue how I triggered it. Very clever use of web against Shriek to delay landing. Doppleganger needs some mention. Dash attack does no damage (green health indicator), neutral jump kick and punch string won't floor him but backflip, leaping kick and desperation attack will. This makes it even easier to go to town on the water tower to chuck at him. In the SNES version it's possible to jump and move yourself onto the ledges of the building and Doppleganger can't reach but he can still hit you off and take off a life. If you use a web shot on Shriek it should say "SECRET BONUS" and give you 1000 points or something. Haven't tried beating her though. Who knows if it's possible. Oh yeah, after I chuck the water tower on Doppleganger I usually jump off the building myself ;p I think I landed like 8 power hits on Lyndon and he still wasn't dead. Best way is carry him to the top right corner and keep him in there eating hits. He'll never fall down except to power hits but I bet you already knew it. Your flashy backflip kicks say it all. It's a good way to grab that extra life you worked so hard for. Seriously, that life is so much work. The points aren't worthwhile either. Good stuff with the double smash as Venom against those fat dudes. I could never space them out properly. The boss fight against Doppleganger and Shriek ends as soon as either one of them has lower than ___ health. So you can pick on one if you want to end it faster. Your strategy is sound though. Interesting that Venom starts off with virtually no health if you pick him for the New York Streets 2 segment. Mm, sucks you missed picking up Cloak in the Deep. With spidey, it takes out Demo to the point of one more touch and he's out. For spidey or Venom in the FF HQ, vertical web and swing can get by those laser walls pretty well. Ugh. Rooftop 2 you gotta take out Shriek for SNES early because if she's the last to go you can't even move to pick up her Firestar summon. Even if you were right on the spot she'd blast away and you'd miss it. Carnage in that fight is purely optional. Huh. It's true then. Prospect Park if you use Cloak on the 4 fat men you get teleported and don't have to continue the rest of the stage. Shitty thing about Prospect Park 2 is that if you're Venom and have one life, Carnage's hit kills you and you have to redo the boss fight. I don't recall being able to grab Shriek. Nice strategy chucking her at Carrion.
+Toomnyusernae Interesting commentary. There's a lot to respond to there. I'll try to go in order. 1. Upon reviewing this longplay for the first time in a while, I'm convinced I played like an idiot vs. Doppelganger in general. I didn't use footwork enough to get off of the line of attack he uses with his diving punch and just didn't respect how fast he recovers from knockdowns in general. I'd say it's my biggest failing, aside from screwing around too much trying to remember the right spot on the secret room on the last level. So it doesn't surprise me that I didn't even notice which attacks were working. 2. I've learned over the years that there are a lot of urban myths surrounding this game. Or at least, I think they're just urban myths. As a child back in 1995, a friend from school told me you could A) Access invincibility mode on the rooftop 2 level by jumping off of the stage, pausing as Spidey is halfway to his death and entering a cheat code. Needless to say, I wasted many lives on this to no avail back in the day! B) Play as Carnage if you beat the game twice and entered a special cheat code C) Access another secret room on the Alleyway level that gave you extra lives and icons. Apparently he read all of this in GamePro magazine which in turn was less than a reliable source of information at times. Anyway, I suspect the "secret bonus" web shot on Shriek is such a myth. 3. I generally don't even bother with Lyndon or the extraneous secret rooms once I get to 9 lives since that's all you can carry anyway. But there's like 5 of us on RUclips who realize Lyndon is not immortal, so I try to make a point of beating him just to smarten people up. Also, I enjoy a challenge. That's why I never use superhero summons in this game and seldom use power ups in general when I play games. I do tend to collect them just out of habit. I'm weird like that. 4. I'll have to try your method by bypassing the walls in FF headquarters. Thanks for the suggestion. 5. I actually did manage to grab that Firestar icon Shriek drops in my other run, as you've probably noticed by now. It's odd that the SNES version ends it immediately. Huh. 6. The Genesis version is inconsistent for when you can grab and pick up Shriek. You can't do it on a rooftop level and you have to time it perfectly to grab her on later levels like Manhattan Street 1 & 2. You'll note, however, that she is possible to double smash, albeit extremely difficult. I was proud of myself for pulling it off at 50:06. It's hardly essential to winning but it's cool to pull off and also just to show people you can do it. PS: Since you seem to pay attention to this stuff, have you noticed Venom's backflip kick can knock down the drones in FF headquarters but Spidey's can't? It also appears to have two hit boxes, so it can hit one drone as you take off and another as you land. Try it sometime.
Those are some very interesting points you replied to. I know in the SNES version if I try and web Shriek in the first appearance it will say Secret Bonus. I've confirmed this in the second last secret room where you can one hit the entire cast. Actually, you can shoot web against many of them and it will say Secret Bonus I found out. I'm not sure if it's only for points but it seemed a little odd to include it into the game. I remember reading that Venom's backflip does knockdown unlike Spidey's. I'm not sure I've ever seen it hit on landing though. I know the two characters have a minor difference in attack traits against the gals and fat men. While Spidey can pummel off a grab on fatso's and not drop them, Venom will and vice versa for women. Also noteworthy is that hero summons can't be used on robots. I took note of that double smash you landed on Shriek. She's the only boss you could grab so the circumstances for that occurrence is petty rare. I should mention that it's possible to knock them off the rooftops but I forget if it was a finishing blow or when they had a lot of health. What I do know is that let's say on Rooftop 2 if you're Venom and use desperation attack they'll be sent further as a deathblow. So they can end up off the roof and you won't get whatever they dropped. Against Muzzoid I could never land the wall cling punch ever and had to resort to off the wall kicks or Venom's web swing kicks. I've been covering a series called beat'em up dissections and Maximum Carnage is my latest one but it feels rather incomplete now. I'll have to make a .5 episode to cover things I forgot when I cover Separation Anxiety. You'll find the web shot against Shriek footage in it.
Great play through and I didn’t know you could while holding any enemy in the air that you can spin. Plus I don’t think I ever was able to do that spin kick with Spider-Man any how nice play through

Oh yeah, after I chuck the water tower on Doppleganger I usually jump off the building myself ;p
I think I landed like 8 power hits on Lyndon and he still wasn't dead.
As a child back in 1995, a friend from school told me you could
A) Access invincibility mode on the rooftop 2 level by jumping off of the stage, pausing as Spidey is halfway to his death and entering a cheat code. Needless to say, I wasted many lives on this to no avail back in the day!
B) Play as Carnage if you beat the game twice and entered a special cheat code
C) Access another secret room on the Alleyway level that gave you extra lives and icons.
Bruh my childhood 😢 2013-
The music in this is sooooooooooo good
Wow as a kid I always wondered what happens if you beat all the chubby guys at the end of the Alley level. Great job!
Great play through and I didn’t know you could while holding any enemy in the air that you can spin. Plus I don’t think I ever was able to do that spin kick with Spider-Man any how nice play through
Loved this game as a kid we need a beat ‘em up game for Spider-Man again on ps5 remastered
To paraphrase AVGN: “It’s not shit! They (LJN) finally pulled through! It’s not shit!” Lol
Majestic playthru
U are SO good at this game. I remember myself playing this, was hella bad. This game is so hard.
If this game would be remastered on ps4
