  • This video explain in depth how to perform Structural Analysis (finite element analysis) of gantry crane for applied loads. The present video is part-1 which covers geometry preparation for FEA using ANSYS SpaceClaim. It includes geometry simplification, midsurface extraction, shell normal check, weld creation, geometry extension using pull and other geometry editing commands.

Excellent tutorial. Thank you. My only suggestion would be to point out to viewers that these mid-surface modifications could have been done to half the model and then just mirrored it.

Thank you for appreciation. We had explained in the video how to mirror the same geometry.

Thanks! Very interesting and useful video. Can you do a spaceclaim tutorial for a watch? ...Rolex, Omega... what would you like to do :) .... especially case and band. thank you if you will do it for us!

Excellent tutorial ! Could you please share 3D models as well? Would be more efficient to excercise along. Thanks!

Hi guys, you were to upload these gantry geometry STEP files onto your website :) have you managed to do that in between? :)

The structure you are testing is not the structure you started with. You are stretching it to join it and all sorts of crazy stuff and making mistakes as you go then going back to correct them. If you are a professional you would edit the video to produce a smooth, mistake free tutorial that shows you how to do structural analysis and not how to modify a poor geometric model for structural analysis. I have now stopped watching this video after 15 minutes of learning how to fix mistakes in your model.
