I can't say enough. The man's a genius. I bought the album when it first came out, and this was the first track which got me. It took me a few listens to warm up to every song, and I am a Radiohead fanatic. Cymbal Rush is fantastic too!
was really digging the kanye, lupe and pharell version... thought it was the shit..... unitl i heard the original. Thom yorkes voice is mad haunting... real heartfelt music... dont get no better than this....
Yes, I can, because Kanye always samples great music and often improves it. I personally didn't dig his remix of this track, but he has great taste in music.
This video is simply amazing. And the song is sublime. I hear it in my dreams and have woken up singing it. I've heard people say they hate electronic music. And there's that bumper sticker that says "Drum Machines Have no Soul." F*** them!
dodedodedo! i totally understand where your coming from. for example, i reckon i could probably write some of the tunes the white stripes or the kinks wrote only to stop coz i wouldnt think they're good enough. but its not the one chord in this song its the harmonies, weird blips and beat, and layers that make this brilliant! i love this tune
it's "doing me in". Not sure if you're familiar with what it means. it's like a british slang phrase for when something is constantly playing on your mind in a negative way, or letting something get to you, taking an emotional beating. it's along the lines of "doing my head in" which is a phrase that's a little more popular. hope that helps.
I think the piano sounds are just naturally compressed, as he recorded the piano with a dictaphone at Jonny Greenwood's house. The piano sampling at the end sounds like Ableton Live's Redux and some sampling done over the first piano sample.
I LOVE THIS SONG!!! it's really great, actually i have an idea for the video song but its a little complicated to make :P its just about battle with your own demons
they say that cause drum machines are 100% accurate of course the kit matters too, just as if you used the quantinize button in your midi tracks. Basically stay away from the option and it sounds good. I would say electronic drum kits have no soul such as this type of kit but its thom yorke so of course its gold.
I was talking about Good Charlotte. And my definition of "real music" lies somewhere along the lines of well developed musical progression, harmony and not three chord wonder bands like Good Charlotte.
Eh I love thom more than anything, but I think his collaboration with JOhnny and Radiohead is much better. IMO Radiohead is the most original and powerful band today.
It must really piss you off that Thom didn'd even PLAY those two chords in the song. He sampled them from an earlier reacording of Jonny Greenwood playing them. Regardless, the song is really well constructed with the analog drum beat (sounds like a 909 to me) the chopped and spliced piano samples and little synth flourishes. Those layered voices on the chorus are spectacular too. May not be the greatest song of his reptoire, but it is certainly a skilled attempt at downtempo electro.
Yeah, right. Today's hip hop artists need to rip off such great artists like Radiohead to compose their beats. They need to take some real lessons from Gangstarr. No one touches Radiohead. Completely incredible and creative without jeopardizing the integrity of their music.
@MrFozzapuskas What the hell are you talking about? How do you know what Thom Yorke wants to be recognized for? L Ron Hubbard LMAO. wtf are you talking about?? I simply like the sounds he and Radiohead make. Speaking for myself I do not give a rats hind end what he is trying to project or not. L Ron Hubbard LMFAO. Anyway, I've liked them for like their last 5 or 6 albums. This track is my favorite of his solo stuff.
It's cool how he throws in this very pop-like chorus into a song full of odd electric sounds and makes it work

Ive been coming here for years just to get them chills at the end when the music stops and thoms voice sings this song out...fucking amazing

I was talking about Good Charlotte. And my definition of "real music" lies somewhere along the lines of well developed musical progression, harmony and not three chord wonder bands like Good Charlotte.
I strongly agree
Eh I love thom more than anything, but I think his collaboration with JOhnny and Radiohead is much better. IMO Radiohead is the most original and powerful band today.

Creative comment on Radiohead's music, now something for mr Yorke's solo album.
great artist. I don't care if he uses drugs or not. Art is the most important thing.. life is not important at all
