    One of the best teachings on this controversial topic. Those who hate the old testament should now know Tithing started before the law. Thank you Cindy. I will continue to pay tithes and give offerings.

    • @markb7067
      @markb7067 13 дней назад +2

      There's no need to hate the Old Testament. Only to properly interpret its context. There's historical evidence tithing occurred even before the Bible was written. There's just no biblical evidence any of it was required by the God of the Bible.

    • @trommelbiel
      @trommelbiel 13 дней назад

      @markb7067 The problem is humans are wired to tightly keep their money to themselves. Even if the tithe was just 1 Percent many people would still argue. I used to attend the catholic church on a regular basis and all they had was a coinbox for the offerings. Many churchgoers couldn't find the coin to insert into the coin box. Imagine trying to convince this person to pay 10 percent. But most of them will find thousands of dollars to go on holidays.

    • @markb7067
      @markb7067 13 дней назад +1

      @@trommelbiel I understand. I think It would be better for a church to charge church members with membership fees for their usage of the facilities. That the church has monetary expenses is undeniable and it's right for it's members to support it if they are attending sermons. A church has a right to that in my opinion. After all, it's a privately run organization.

      Tithe is not paid or given so that you will be financially blessed. Tithe is paid or given as being obedient to God. Your financial status is based on you as an individual and what you do to change your financial status; through education, training, entrepreneurship etc. When you do your part as a person and if you are faithful and obedient to God, He will bless you through your actions, not by what you pay. God does not need your money, you are Blessed through your act of obedience.

      Tithe is 10% of whatever represent your income source. If you watch what Jesus said in the NT, He said the pharisee and religious people tithe in both cash and all, and leave others undone, this you ought to have done without leaving the other undone. Giving whether it's tithe or seed or offering should be done in love and taking care of other moral and spiritual codes.

      Hey Aimster!
      The tithing system was under a covenant made between God and the levites for THEM ONLY to receive a tithe from their brethren, their fellow 11 tribes. (Numbers 18:20-26, Hebrews 7:5) That convent was to be established forever. We are now a part of a better convent in which we are free to give, not under compulsion or obligation but as the Lords leads us (2 Corinthians 9:6-7).
      So no, we cannot say that there is currently a such thing as a biblical tithe on earned wages.

      Just to share... It seems your inquiry is in regard to systematic tithing. In the bible, all systematic tithes were received as organic, consumable items from within Israel and were specifically purposed for the Levitical theocracy, the poor and for the festivals. Today's version of "tithing" money to a religious institution isn't biblically supported. It's simply the giving of offerings per the discretion of the giver. We are only biblically instructed to give cheerfully, not under compulsion. Blessings in your giving.

      So go ahead and do the same by all means if you are a Israelite (Jewish person) and do ensure it goes to a Levi or any of the descendants of a Levi.

    To support the work of God is a must for Christians but it must be according to scriptures as in 2 Corinthians 9:6-7. There is no tithe or tithing for the priesthood. The priesthood in the old covenant did not pay tithe and for a parallel in the new covenant the royal priesthood (the church) is not asked to pay tithe. If Jesus Christ is not in it don’t practice it. Jesus Christ never asked the church to pay tithe.

    This is not the full explanation pertaining to tithing. I wish people would actually read everything and speak on it in its context. Both the people and the priesthood were judged in the book of Malachi. Tithe is actually for a nation. It’s for the less fortunate. Widows, fatherless and the poor. Its basically welfare. Food drives and all that. It’s was also for the Levi’s cause they were the only ones that did not own land. In the book of dueteronomy it tells you what tithing is really about. It’s also to do with gifting someone to honour them or bless them for whatever reason. As a thank you for example. This practice purpose was to ween the nation Israel into operating the way they should with each other. This practice is a foreshadowing of the golden rule (in the New Testament) which is love thy neighbour as thyself.
    That is why the Lord will say depart from me for I do not know you because I was hungry and you didn’t feed me. I was naked you didn’t clothe me, I was thirsty and you didn’t offer me a drink etc… but for those who did these things were accepted into the kingdom of God with open arms. Tithing is a lot deeper and it’s honestly a disservice to compare tithing to spiritual currency. Money is nothing but the condition of the heart is everything to God.

    Leaders, did you know that, concerning giving, or tithing, or prosperity, Malachi 3:8-12 is not the full counsel of God? It is an excerpt, quoted to the church for centuries (believe it or not), which is a misrepresentation of God's counsel. We've accepted it because that's what we have always been taught. Here are a few points to consider.
    -- Who did God appoint to receive tithes? God said, "And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth [the tithe] in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation (Numbers 18:21). In this scripture, God established who receives the tithe (the Levites), and why they received it (they received no inheritance, and they served in the temple). This assignment is exclusive to Levites. A pastor cannot assume this assignment, he has never been scripturally assigned by God to collect tithes, he is not a Levite. In that same sense, only a Levite, never a pastor, could ever conduct an animal sacrifice or even work in a Jewish temple. The church has not replaced the Jewish temple, and pastors have not replaced Levites.
    -- People are blessed when they give, not because of Malachi 3, which is based on the Law of Moses, an Old Testament law that has been replaced by Grace under Christ, at the cross. They are blessed because Jesus said, "Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you" (Luke 6:38). It is this principle of giving and receiving at work, when we give and are blessed. Not the expired law of tithing, which was required of the Jews (never Gentiles), and could only be received by Levite priests because they received no inheritance and were set apart to work fully in the Jewish temple.
    -- There is much more to this, such as Abraham's tithe to Melchizedek, Jacob's promise to tithe, the history of when and why the New Testament church tithes (there is actually a date!), and the biblical support for all these truths. To be clear, every pastor has a right to collect offerings in support of the ministry; I fully agree with supporting the church financially. But our giving must be godly. It is wrong to require people to tithe, contrary to the scriptures, then say that we live according to the scriptures. If you're interested in learning more, I have researched and written about this in "Tither, You Are Free!" Blessings to you and your ministry!

  • @markb7067

    Wrong on many levels. Where in the bible is the tithe described as "spiritual currency" and where in the bible are tithes received from earned wages? You really think that God obligates himself to bless people just because they pay money to a religious institution? That's absurd. Yes, biblical, systematic tithes were taxes specifically purposed for the Levitical theocracy, the poor, and for the festivals which began and ended under Mosaic Law. Only consumable items were accepted as tithe deliverables. No, there's nothing about systematic tithing in the garden of Eden, only offerings. And what Abram submitted to Melchizedek was a one-time gift from items he declared he wouldn't accept, not a systematic tithe. Abram gave away the rest of those items to the King of Sodom. There's no biblical evidence Abram ever "tithed" again. The bible doesn't present the option of monetizing a systematic tithe, with the possible exception of the redemption of it. That's something man invented after the bible was written. Malachi 3 was a narrative confined to the nation of Israel and further narrowed to the Levitical Priesthood in Malachi 2:1. And the tithe had nothing to do with money, only produce and livestock from within Israel. The "windows of heaven" is a simple reference to rain, not monetary blessings or anything else. "Meat in my house" is a literal reference. It has nothing to do with money. There's no such thing as a biblical tithe from earned wages. Jacob only promised a tithe IF God provided as he requested. There's no biblical evidence he ever paid a tithe.
    It's sad how people distort God's word to support ideals that aren't biblical. Giving is front and center in the Christian faith, money or otherwise, but there's no such thing as a biblical mandate for anyone to continuously pay 10% of their monetary earnings to a religious institution or anywhere else, nor is there any biblical promise of a blessing for doing so. We are free to give, not bound to pay.

    • @nomaphelondzundzu
      @nomaphelondzundzu 2 года назад +2

      In biblical times agriculture was their main form of wealth/income hence tithes were based on that. Now we have money, not agricultural produce hence tithes and offering are linked to money. At the end of the day its about putting God first whether it's your time or money.
      Because anything your love more than God is an idol.

    • @markb7067
      @markb7067 2 года назад +5

      @@nomaphelondzundzu Thanks for the feedback. Money was widely used in biblical times. In Genesis, money is mentioned several times. It's also evident money was paid as wages (Haggai 1:6). Tithes could be converted to money but not received as money (Deuteronomy 14:22-27). Only consumable items were received as systematic tithes. Leviticus 27:30 reads "A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord". Once again, only consumable items. Why? Most likely because only that which is produced by God, natural items, can be considered Holy. Money is man-made, not God-made.
      I agree in terms of giving, which is front and center in the Christian faith, but God isn't a mob boss or a slot machine. Blessings in your giving.
