2:12 - This joke was a reference to the movie _Goodfellas_ saying that Christopher was nervous until he saw everyone and knew what he hoped was going to happen was actually going to happen -- and not the other thing (which was among the Italians)
"Gabagool" is the way many Italians around New Jersey/New York say 'Capicola"; it originates from around Naples, where some regional accents there say the "c" as something closer to a "g", and some drop the last vowel on some words. I always think of a guy around there I saw showing off some of the cured meats, and he kept saying "SPETTAGGOLARE!" (the word in Italian is "spettacolare", and yes, it means "spectacular")
Uncle Ben and Aunt Jemimah are american food brands that relate to minstrel show archetypes and stuff. they have heavy racial connotations and Aunt Jemimah changed their name and rebranded a few years ago. It's like, this very racialized thing that's also familiar and you could see it all the time without thinking about that.
I love a show that has a great theme song setting the tone so that, even when binging, you want to listen *every episode* . . Sopranos has it, as does Deadwood, and going way back, The Rockford Files.
@Hexon66 I was the same way when I binged The Sopranos & Deadwood. And with Dexter, it was the outro/closing theme I couldn't skip. It's pretty but melancholy, atmospheric & a bit eerie. I just realized that's close to how I would also describe Deadwood's opening music. And I remember The Rockford Files theme. Hawaii Five-O too. Everyone seemed to love that music. Talk about nostalgia.
Paulie is very often, not a very nice guy. Like some “old hands” he likes to ride the new guys. Also if he was going to give Chris a piece of his empire, it was always going to be one that he enjoyed having the least. We can assume it was hard work for not a lot of money and whether the $6000 that had to go to Paulie was even based on anything, or just invented.
Paulie is blow for blow one of the vilest characters alongside Tony by the end of the show. They both just descend into their self centeredness utterly
"He's lucky I didn't punch his f***ing lights out." Dial it back there, Last Dragon. Let's just nevermind the fact that Tony is a mob boss, the guy's built like a friggin' bull. I'm pretty sure Tony could have been in the midst of battling food poisoning and still would have floored you.
Not sure whether you speak Frisian or flemish, but the way you said 'the origin of the meat problem' triggered some core memories of my grandmother in the best possible way 😂
Tony Sirico, who plays Paulie, get some time in prison and in the army. If you're not giving a blanket or you're in a cold concrete cell you learn to sleep like that and your body adjusts
Sorry but there is no way Richie was a rat. He was pretty much the definition of old school gangster who has proved himself with hard time. Tony shouldn't be saying witness protection for every single person who disappears, he should have thought about something different for Richie Aprille.
The whole point over the seasons is that Tony is a self absorbed sociopath. He bangs on constantly about 'the rules' and tradition whilst almost never adhering to them. Everything he does is in his own self interest
5:58 I'll never understand this level of hate over something that can't be changed. I only hate the things people have the power to change and choose not to
Tony could/would not apologize to Meadow because that would not only require admission of wrong but it would imply at least the desire if not the effort to change his racist views. Something everyone involved would immediately view as insincere coming from him.
this is random.....mary a spot of sunlight was shining directly on the tip of yoour nose. it looked like lotion or strangely i saw it when the bird was ther so i thought you were doing funny editing like it was bird dropping on your nose, i know thats silly great episode huh
No one cares about very niche American "sensibilities". You people have a billion of them and no one has time for that. She doesn't know and she does not need to know, she was talking about the character which is written to be hateable.
"Don't disrespect the pizza parlor!"
That is the most Italian thing I've ever heard.
is the most east coast thing ever
Uncle Ben was the African American Spokesperson/ Mascot pictured on the box of Rice. The model was Frank Brown.
😆 gabagool with a belgian accent is pure gold
“Oohhh. I know what he said.” One of my favorite lines.
"Benny Fazio, criminal mastermind!"
Did you think you weren't gonna get caught?! We lead the world in computerized data collection!

"Why am I cheering the bad guy?" Yeah this show has that effect

I haven't thought about The Rockford Files in decades...

Check out the RUclips vid of the Danish National Orchestra’s performance of the GBU .
Svetlana is such a boss! I want a whole show just about her life.
In real life she has 2 good legs. Her acting is very convincing she has only 1.
Gabagool is I guess an Italian Americanized way of saying Capicola, which is a cured meat like a cold cut.
the meat in tonys mothers house delivery was gabagool/ capiccolo
it is a dry cured ham made with various spices
The way Janice says leg lives rent free in my head for 20 years

That ONE episode coming up next week...
brutal.
😢 yeah it’s about to get nuts…
Capicola (capocollo) aka “gabagool” is absolutely delicious.

Never gamble is a good lesson. 😊

Conditioning. Years and years of it.
Do you hate pedos? They can't change either
Thanks for the deep dive.

Periodontist: type of dental surgeon?
Uh oh, you caught yourself rooting for the "bad" guys, Mary ... and it happens to everybody.

black folks American ones often rock socks and sandals
I never understood the towering disdain for socks in sandals. Lots of comfortable apparel can be a fashion eyesore.
