Factorio tips and tricks for new players plus common mistakes that beginners might do in Factorio. It's a list of the most useful things for everybody who just starts with this awesome game. If you are more advence Factorio player you can still watch and comment how many of those mistakes did you make.

It's weird to think that I've been technically playing factorio longer than Trupen yet he has so much more knowledge on the game.
I bought the game 30Mar2018, and I got 7000 hours logged... he's still waaaay better than me.

First he gathered 2 of each and every item onto a belt. Then he herd it onto a train and then he crammed it all into a rocket.
and from that day forward anytime bunch of belts are together in one place it's called a BUS!
Unless it's a braiding!
You can use one chest if you have the bobs adjustible inserters mod, but it won't be pretty.
Won't that still cause problems with filling both sides of the belt?
Alternatively, if we're using mods anyway, a loader mod to just let it run into a chest and immediately back out

Buffers attempt to turn any type of input into maximum output, they are best when the rate of one side repeatedly swings above and below the rate of the opposite side

I always found buffers only useful for train stations (or for malls), since my production was usually slower than how fast an inserter can move from inv to inv. Meaning factory can continue work and not have gap of no work by time another train comes back.
Also efficiency brain of not wanting to pollute too much before efficiency modules or endgame production productivity modules on assemblers.
That's basically the main way to do it anyway. When you have inconsistent inputs, you want buffers to balance it out during times when it is backing up and times when there is nothing.
im a fam of inline buffers, use an underground belt to let items pass straight through the buffer, with the inserters taking up where the belts would otherwise be
very space efficient and easy to retrofit into designs afterwards, and i find great for provider chests

I don’t buffer anything past ore, even building your starting factory and don’t mind some planned downtime a full furnace line should supply a belt for 5 minutes
I usually don't make buffers but when I do they usually end up getting in my way.

One Day ill be knowledgeable, since i only habe 1000 hourse in the game i love exploring new things. Or how other people play this game.
A more compact way I found is using the mini loader mod and making a line that you want to buffer, using splitters to pull resources off the belts, feed into a chest using mini loader then pull out using the mini loader to feed back into the main belt line. It's makes it a little longer but only 3 blocks wide. Most useful to buffer different science packs because you can have it automatically output to one side of the belt.
That buffer is awesome. It will be perfect for my vanilla run.
I use a splitter before taking them off the line, and then another splitter before putting them back on. That way the mainline keeps moving unless there's overflow, and then the mainline only takes from the buffer if it runs dry.

Lol, in the modpack we are playing, I basically do everything from the map view, so my character is inside 3 levels of nested warehouses in a belt spinning.

There’s nothing wrong with that buffer if you use loaders 🙂 it’s just not vanilla
but if you use loaders then it's a completely different buffer

Though I currently am doing a challenge that requires a buffer. I could spend an hour making 4x the amount of copper that I normally would, and if I didn't buffer it I wouldn't be able to do anything as the mines would backup and not produce iron. Is it gonna be annoying yes

Whats a buffer, like genuinely im not good at factorio so ive solved all my problems with more splitters and belts, too much of something on a belt? Use a splitter and take it elsewhere, too little of something? Take one of the split off belts and route it there (even if its the same line i split from earlier), way way way too much of something? Try to turn it into something i can never have enough of? If not then big storage container in some dump that ill never use

Buffers are nice when you do switch to red belts and when you unlock bots

This design is terrible.
Use a splitter to push one side directly further, bypassing the buffer, so that only when there is a backlog of goes towards your buffer.
After the buffer, also use a splitter with priority input from the bypass, so it uses the buffer only when needed.
Buffers are bad tho

Genuinely never make buffers. The belts are enough. I'm usually watching my ore supplies and go out to get more when it's about time.
To ke they're kind if pointless. If you're at a point where you're consuming 100k iron per minute, that 9x4800 buffer isn't going to last long. Why even bother?
i use buffers with modded things. belt in and outlets that extract or put items in things the same speed belts from same volor work and the extendable long chests. buffers, distributes and works as an itemgrab point.
