    Just a few quick observations...on the "privacy" aspect, just because you and your buddy are operating with a ctcss tone doesn't mean others can't hear you. They can ALL hear you. Unless they match your ctcss tone however, you can't hear them. These are more aptly called "quiet codes" on some radios. Also, keying up a radio to open the squelch on a repeater without identifying yourself, is called "Kerchunking" and it is technically against the FCC rules. Notwithstanding that, it's also irritating for the rest of us monitoring that repeater. If several hundred radio owners kerchunk the repeater per day, it REALLY gets annoying. Instead, just key up and announce your callsign and request a radio check. The last observation I have: Tidradio TD-H8 can be unlocked from GMRS mode and you'll have three choices: 1. GMRS 2. HAM 3. All To do this, with the radio off, press and hold the PTT and the * key while turning on the radio.

    The ODMaster app is great for the TIDRADIO H8 HAM which is what I have. Mine switches to GMRS, HAM, or Unlocked. When it is switched to GMRS, it operates just like yours, with limited to GMRS specs, but when it is in HAM, the app is super useful and has all the local HAM repeaters listed by county, city, mile distance, etc. you simply select the repeaters and write them to the radio. The app also saves multiple configurations of repeaters so you can connect to your other handhelds and quickly write the repeater lists you have saved to the next radio in about one minute. I am brand new to all of this and just got my GMRS License and 4 TIDRADIO H8 HAM/GMRS radios, and 2 UV5R HAM radios. Your videos are great.

    odmaster ap works great and offers some things. I use both it and manual. I am on firmware version 3 and using my H8 as a ham since June. my ft60 r now sits on my desk for a monitor. my H8 output is 9.5 to 10.5 watts when using the spkr mic i find a setting of 6 for mic gain works well.

      @wiredtight  Год назад +2

      I need to spend some more time in the app for sure. And that's awesome that you're getting 9 1/2 W out of that I don't have an SWR meter so I can't test mine and I was having trouble at first hitting the repeater but when I took my mic gain all the way up to 15 I was coming in loud and clear. Thanks for tuning in!

    Just have to say, Roger been or even a custom ANI code with the PTT ID shows GMRS radio superiority.
    All jokes aside if you customize the ani code, and use the ptt-id, it can be handy when you have a group of noobs in the family that you gave the radio to. It can help identify who is too quick on the trigger and direct them that “you need to hold the button down first” or many other un foreseen problems. Not for everyone but I’ve found it useful. Great video! I’m right there with you I started GMRS right about when you did. And learned so much! Keep it up!

    I'm pretty sure there's been some time since this video premiered so this could probably be a bit dated, but I've got between 30-40 HT radios and a bunch of the newer model ones can seek PL tones now. I've got half a dozen baofeng models way more sophisticated than a uv5r, all of which can do this. I agree, I don't like ODmaster app at all, I'll hit up chirp to make changes in 5 mins or less, or do it manually thru the keypad before I'll use the app, haha. Of all the radios I have, the H8 is still one of my top 3 favorites, and the little brother H3 is too. Can't wait to see what model they come out with next to combine features of the two, or all new ideas. Soooo many new tech radios coming out from bunch of companies (probably all made in the same factory haha), and with the ATT outages and tiktok sales pitches, GMRS has made a huge jump in numbers of licensed people playing on the radio now. Tidradio had some big issues right out of the gate, and still struggle a tiny bit with qc, but being able to get them overnite from Amazon is huge since if you get a bad one you can just return it for a replacement. I've somehow collected 6 tidradios now, had to return one that was a dud. Excited to see where the company goes. New subscriber here, keep up the good work!

It is beyond me why RUclips content creators think playing background music over the presenter's voice is somehow enhancing their videos. We came to hear you; we are not here to fight background music to hear you. The background music quickly becomes extremely annoying, distracting, and intrusive. Many folks have hearing difficulties, thus while concentrating on your dialog we must also concentrate on tuning out the music; it is very frustrating.
