    • @raheemj.lawrence8551
      @raheemj.lawrence8551 6 лет назад +23

      Let me teach all you monkeys on Lupe. Drogas Light is a collection of old songs in Lupe's vault, of course some of them will be crap, just like LASERS was, because Atlantic Records give almost no creative freedom to some of their artists, if their music isn't good enough, or mainstream enough. Lupe even admitted that DROGAS Light is bad, because they're all old songs just crumpled into an album, it's just something to keep us satisfied before DROGAS Waves is released (this year or next). He chose not to make songs that Atlantic wanted him to make, and rathe
      r made songs that pleased Lupe himself rather than the mainstream and the radio. And consequently, his time at Atlantic was horrible, he in effect gained a bad reputation, and therefore slowly faded out of the spotlight from 2013 onwards, to now, where kids have hardly heard of him. Technically yes he did fall off, remember Superstar went platinum, and Battle Scars went platinum, so did The Show Goes On (3x I think, correct me if I'm wrong), and DROGAS Light only sold 14,000 copies in its first week. Impressive for an independent release (techincally it was released on First & Fifteenth and Sony respectively), but yes, compared to his previous sales and statuses of his first two album and singles of that phase for Lupe, it dwindles majorly.

    • @Nr4747
      @Nr4747 6 лет назад +6

      You are clearly an idiot and ignorant of all the strife that Lupe constantly had with Atlantic Records - a battle that Lupe has been *very* vocal about and repeatedly rubbed salt in the wound by releasing his best songs on free mixtapes like "Lost in the Atlantic" (which is another jab at Atlantic Records).

    Lupe doesn't have to be king, he's more like a king assassin. Mean beat. Intellectual sarcasm. He spits fire and freezes dudes. He's got lyrical philosophers deciphering his metaphors on a biblical level. His words will come so silently and so quickly that you almost never catch em. He is Vendetta to the rap game. He ain't all about the superficial things either, there are bigger things going on in his mind. And saying he's some typical rap king or rap god is trying to slap a label on a person who doesn't even exist on this plane. And yeah I'm guilty of hyping him up and over analyzed his work (which is always open to individual translation), but I never even bothered listening to the nonsensical rap genre until others like him came up.
    Old school rappers set the foundation. Newer rappers that signed on took advantage of the delusions and publicity and slowly twisted music into garbage following a formula that didn't require them to try. But that pissed off everybody in the underground and spawned some of the best next gen rappers who shook everybody's way of thinking and revitalized music into combating the illusions and hypocrisy from self proclaimed statuses. I love these next gen rappers man, their music is deep, real, hopeful, and empowering in a society that needs a voice for progressivism when real world corruption is trying to take us backwards.

      Logan Wendt They are my top two of all time. Lyrically Rakim and kool g rap where pretty much the originators of everything that you see. Kool g rap was the one who developed strong wordplay and a chopper, fast flow that mashed together. That's where pun and em got their flows. Rakim literally wrote the book of lyricism. From multis to similes. If Rakim is not even in your top 10 then I don't know what planet you are on. My top 10 ever goes

    This is the most entertaining "Control" response. I've already replayed it 3 times in 12 minutes.
    I appreciate that no matter what you may think of a big name in the game (Ross, Wayne, Cam'ron, etc) as long as they have a definable, distinguishable flow/style, they're doing SOMEthing right. Being able to pick out Lupe's very clear impressions of Meek Mill's, Ross's, Weezy's, T.I.'s, and 50's style within the song says something about other rappers who don't have their own steeze at all - Or even worse, who sound like someone else entirely.
    I feel that even at the most basic skill level, you should, as a rapper, at LEAST strive to have your own sound -- If NOTHING else, be able to get identified if/when someone is using your flow. It's a damn good start.

    I truly believe that this song & part 3 are the reason Kendrick never tried to get at Lupe. They'll (Punch) took they little shots online but they avoided setting off Lupe for real. And, on some street stuff, you can say that you ain't got time for a hater or whatever but that's literally what every dude does now. It's a passive way of hiding, especially if you portray an image of an Alpha type dude who can get grimy when necessary. Look at how Mos ducked Lupe. Look at how he got at Royce. Look at the Jay Z & Nas cosigns. Look at how Eminem has slick shouted out Lupe or referenced him on his albums. There's a reason for all that & you don't get those types of endorsements, especially if you're known as a more lyrical type of artist who can still move units. And his newest singles (Roc-A-Fella Y'all) shows that Lupe hasn't slowed down, fell off or missed a beat in his style and complexity. He can GO THERE, if necessary and on a dime, but when you're established it isn't prerequisite anymore. Even battle rapper magician has bigged up Lupe as being that "up there" next tier artist that the next wave has to aspire to be, if they are in it for a certain type of validity and legacy.
    Yeah, listening back on this, TDE and Kendrick and them (minus Soul) swerved Lupe hard during this time. They DID NOT want those kind of problems.

    Lol Kendrick knows he ain't on Lupe's level he just brought the best in Lupe out by calling em out. Lupe was just waiting for someone to try and step to his level. Lupe dont give a fuck about your greatest rapper discussions he knows hes lyrically the best conscious rapper. He just sits there and let's new rappers fight for the bubblegum pop rapper award while he drops whatever the fuck he wants. If he feels like dropping a radio friendly song he still spits the truth on it listen to old school love!! Thats how radio hits should be

      @rubyreduxx kendrick still has never came at lupe after lol. Honestly, I'll say kendrick reached a new level, but I don't think there's anything they could even diss each other about.

    Lupe is the best lyricist in hip hop history.. I love Kendrick and he's a better artist.. but Lupe is better than anyone on a lyrical standpoint

      Can't even say "better artist" like Lupe isn't Articulate.... artist paints, draws, expresses. Lupe can do everything Kendrick can and better.

      @@arisvalmonte793 I get your point, but I meant Kendrick is a better artist as in how he has a bit better production choice and also like he made TPAB which I think is a great example of his artistic abilities.. but yeah, Lupe is better than Kendrick in an overall perspective

    My confidence in Kendrick to hang with lupe is the Deep Water verse, cartoons and cereal, fear, rigamortis, etc its a list. It would be a close battle but who knows....kendrick is nominated for a grammy for a style he never used, doing something he never did. (Bay Area styled diss track made for the clubs).
