Watched this video for the first time in primary and just fell in love with the then relatively unknown 1jz platform. Nearly a decade on my first proper car is a Toyota Crown with a 1jzgte!! Thanks for inspiring the next generation of kids with these videos, you made our childhoods amazing!
I just realized the true beauty of this video. They build a sleeper for cheap and have fun and then actually chop unsuspecting cars at the drag strip which was exactly the purpose of this build. Including a Commodore V8 RWD car that definitely did not expect to be beaten by a completely stock looking Cressida lol. This is a car that should have been kept maybe, a lot of potential with that small lightweight rwd 6 cylinder turbo platform.
I just picked one up for $500, and a 2jz at my job for $150. this is gonna be such a fun build I haven't been this excited about a project in so long lol.
True Immortality Gaming call bull shit all you want I work at a local engine rebuild shop in Paterson nj. We build Ford 5.4, hemi 5.7, all day long maybe a 4.7 and a 3.7 here and there an occasional subaru if one should pass through the shop by chance. That first gen ge block 2j has been sitting there longer than most of the workers. My boss laughed when I asked about it and gave it to me for 150. You seem to think there still rare and hard to find maybe back when I was in high-school. but the fact is they don't see enough of them in a year to warrant even stocking parts, let alone demanding a premium on a block that's been sitting for more than 3 years. Same can be said of the LT1 sitting in my back yard. Hell you could probably even get an aristo front clip now for less than 2k.
+Fraser Hughes true! they should have made gramps out of a Loyale! Do you have old Loyales where you are? that with gramps H6 turbo would be a real sleeper... or a brat with that motor!!
I am a big fan of the "Sleeper" well done. My first car, 1981 USDM VW Fox 2 door wagon with a full Corrado G60 conversion, good times... really good times, 14.8sec 1/4's.
***** Moog has an S2000... now correct me if I'm wrong, but I hear you can get some crazy results when you turbocharge that car. Like 500+ hp. I'd really, really like to see that.
This is exactly the type of car I want, a car that looks like it would be slow, but still looks good, but is decently fast. It'd be funny as fuck chopping some people in their falcons or whatever in your dinky old Cressie.
in australia novice drivers have different stages of licence before they can get a full licence. l plates, which is your learners phase, then p plates, which is your probationary phase. there are specific restrictions and requirements for each phase, but they're different for each state. the plates you have to display on the car, showing what phase you are on.
You know, here in Saudi Arabia, anything that lasts for a long time without malfunction is called a Cressida, because that is how a cressida is, for example, my air conditioner is a cressida :P
+Rich77UK Got to love older cars, they are way smaller and lighter so you don't need as much power. Every year the same model cars get bigger and heavier. That cressida is a low small car compared to todays.
+sirgallium exactly. I understand modern safety improvements but things like electric seats, electric this and that, iPod docks e.t.c adds up. There was an article in the UK a year or so ago where a modern Ford Fiesta was compared in size to older fords. Dimensionally it was the same as a mid size family car (not a compact) from the 70's and the same weight as a full on large family car! I have an R53 supercharged BMW mini with 170bhp. It's nippy in the same way my old 1971 mini 850cc was! So 750cc (almost 100%) extra and a supercharger to make up for electric Windows, mirrors, leather recaros and crash safety... I LOVE older cars character and personality that modern cars lack.
Rich77UK I agree so much more character, less bloated looking. Whenever this topic comes up I love showing people the Honda Civic wiki to look through the generations. Gen 1 weighs 1,500lbs that is madness!
+Rich77UK well those are all options that people request lol. you could buy a car with manual transmission, manual windows seats no AC and etc. but all of that isn't practical for a daily driver.
It's like a second knock down of pride, pullin gin front and hazard lighting them is kind of rubbing salt in the wound, maybe disrespecting them depending on the situation too.
Reminds me a little of my Merc 190E 2 litre which my friend and I put a 3 litre from a 300E into. Not as fast though, but feels quick because of the exhaust and a manual transmission.
14.5 with a twin turbo... Needs major suspension upgrades, and a better tune. And with that auto trans, it needs a high stall converter or better yet, manual swap to drop that into the 13s. Then comes forged internals and more boost!
ThatGuyOnCoke Now, I haven' t payed attention whether was the 1JZ an auto or not, but I assume it's a manual because it impossible to start in 2nd gear with an auto just the way Marty did at 14:07 .
This video changed my mind about the new Mitsubishi's Fords and Subaru's in the drag strip I just realise sleepers with good engines and comfortable sets can always win they're a bit rubbish but that doesn't mean the are slow
It sucks because we can drive what ever we want, like myself I'm 17 and I drive a BMW 540i that pushes around 400whp (yes I know that isn't a stock number I've done work on it)
14.5 second quarter with stock 7mge exhaust, they posted at the end 13.5 seconds with just an exhaust change, raise the boost to 16 psi and fuelcut defender shift kit for the auto and may climb into the high 12second range, tell me another car for under 5grand that could do this and be reliable?? Long live the mighty 1jzgte.
+ashley locke owning a Cressida, turning off ABS and TC isn't recommended lol this thing is tail happy and the weight transfer isn't all that great. It's more scary than fun
The brakes fail and that car is scrap metal now crushed and in pile in the scap yard the car had no abs or traction control it locked up into a tree a year later .we still love you Benny brakes are for losers
Awesome! got a good friend of mine whos been talking about doing this exact project for a while now. i can say now after watching this I'm fairly interested
its more about protecting our own car market. We can import JDM sports cars, just not cars that were sold here in some way or arent considered enthusiasts cars. The chaser was basically a cressida which was australian delivered. You can bring in anything you want if youve owned it for a year and can prove you used it over there
Wow what a throwback to a simpler time, $600 Cressida's cheap 1jz. Cant believe I didn't know this ep existed. Most recent SCA Ad isnt the first time you guys have dressed up as old guys!
hey guys that 1jz swap is truly an inspiration.... i am officially ah fan! am Looking forward to seeing more of your projects. I am learning more about cars and spending lots of hours looking at youtube vids because i really want to lean more about cars, car builds and body repair. I am hoping that some time in the future i can have my own program.... "BRINGING BACK THE CLASSICS" i am just finished buying a Nissan 260c, and i am hoping to put in a RB25 of 1JZ or which ever comes first. but for now am trying to get the original engine started so i could use the car as my daily driver. my next project is to bring back a 320i E30 1989.
I know we here in Aus can definitely import whole cars, so I am assuming it has something to do with it being a twin turbo, or something like that to do with the nature of that car in particular.
If Australia does not let you import the car the engine is from how to you work around getting it on the road when the engine is in another car.. great video
Very nice. I want a Mk3 (1985) Cressida with a 2JZ swapped into it with a beefed up auto, for that ultimate sleeper look. If that's too costly, then I'll take a 6-speed manual with the 2JZ.

I never really grasped how cool this and the 10 second Cresta was when I was younger, I just liked them because they were square cars.
this is still my favorite intro theyve ever had, it was just so professional, and the guitar is so awesome
i saw a chaser mark 2 today gave him a thumbs up then he drifted around a roundabout haha
you should have put the chaser grill on .
I just realized the true beauty of this video. They build a sleeper for cheap and have fun and then actually chop unsuspecting cars at the drag strip which was exactly the purpose of this build. the older commodores were undertuned they were 185 kws i think that's pretty shit but then they wete andgry kws!!
185 at the fly
what's sad is that they sold it and then shortly after, the new owner crashed it
I just picked one up for $500, and a 2jz at my job for $150. this is gonna be such a fun build I haven't been this excited about a project in so long lol.
2jz for 150 dollars, lol bullshit

Ricardo Reyes i cant be bothered reading your crap. first two lines read and im like fuck this shit *runs away from home*
+True fcfdImmortality Gaming
+True Immortality Gaming 2jzge engines a dirt cheap. Lol you probably think it's a 2jzgte lmfao.
thats a bloody fast car and unsuspecting to people that its a beast of a car with huge power.
i wouldnt call a 14.6sec car fast
For 3k with 4 doors, that is incredibly fast.
@Ken Block try it with a triple plat clutch and r154 manual gear.. ride with me you may chaing yout mind😈✌🔥
A time before Gramps...
+G10 Gramps isn't really a sleeper any more either
+Fraser Hughes true! they should have made gramps out of a Loyale! Do you have old Loyales where you are? that with gramps H6 turbo would be a real sleeper... or a brat with that motor!!
+Fraser Hughes 💡🕕🔊🔖🔑🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
12:26 just love her smile, she knows she is driving a classic icon!
these old MCM for some reason, seem better than the new ones.
Always will be.
Most old stuff is easily better than the new stuff
Old is always better than new.
ok boomer
I prefer the more car centered work of the new. They have a sense of humor but the jokes are pretty lame and get in the way of better stuff.
Now that is a sleeper.
I used to drive a Cressida. It shook so bad slowing down the gear shift would go into neutral. I loved that thing. Twas a fine vintage.
In Saudi Arabia we had a limited edition of Cressidas with a manual gearbox mated to a 6 cylinder engine. cool huh?
8:17 "Stupid Honda's". Nice one Moog.
I am a big fan of the "Sleeper" well done. My first car, 1981 USDM VW Fox 2 door wagon with a full Corrado G60 conversion, good times... really good times, 14.8sec 1/4's.
@8:45 out the back window, what a VW!!
+Jim Lee no all i see is a mcdonalds sign
+need for speed World 8:49 a red split windshield bus.
oooooeaah
A jdm whats it called
that's a VW T1.
completely restored, depending on where you live, these can go for about 50k - 100k or more. A not so good one is about 15-25k
moog forgot about that philosophy when bought the s2000
Best mcm build, a manual swap away from perfection. Best car they've ever done.
You guys have done stance builds, drift build, even a Honda build, could you do something like a drag build!? Like somethin with crazy horsepower?
***** Moog has an S2000... now correct me if I'm wrong, but I hear you can get some crazy results when you turbocharge that car. Like 500+ hp. I'd really, really like to see that.
nj4ck
The s2k isnt really well off with high hp. It doesnt help much for the s2k in a straight line nor the corners it takes.
Psycho & Keith so you mean it doesn't help to give it more oomph?
Psycho & Keith High horsepower would help any car in a straight line. It would have not effect of handling what so ever...
Psycho & Keith
Are you just a little bit stupid?
This is exactly the type of car I want, a car that looks like it would be slow, but still looks good, but is decently fast. It'd be funny as fuck chopping some people in their falcons or whatever in your dinky old Cressie.
there is a name for the look slow go fast thing. its called a sleeper
Retz look up the Tom's Chaser, it was basically the dame concept as this build.
Or something like the Barra powered JDM Cresta with more subtle looks than the one Marty n' Moog put together... that would be a monster for sure.
I own a wagon cressida did 1jz swap back in 2018 the car is smoken hot!! Super fast!! Hail to the king baby😈🔥
@@ghostofsparta6579 do you still have it? would be great to know that your wagon is smoking commies and falcons lol
I’m here waiting for new content.
Love these old vids.
While watching this I just scratched my chin, felt something tinkle my kneck, and when I lifted my hand there was a pube on it. Is this a sign MCM?
no that was just your boyfriend.
Its a trap!
Wouldn't stop moog from testing the salt content first
Neck pubes are known to be dangerously fruity.
Don't ask if it's a sign, ask yourself how it got there.
Martys sutututu gets me every time
Love the Cressida mod. I've had both the cres, supra and 73 celica all the best cars to play in. Fun show mates
did anyone else notice that when moog was inside the supra with the asian chick that he wasnt in a grandpas suit anymore?
Song @5:30? Don't tell me to check the description because I did.
Moog - Forced Induction
Kevin Hansen Did you listen to the song @5:30, because that's not Forced Induction. Thanks anyway !
Sorry mate! Thought of the wrong one :P
Kevin Hansen No worries haha
Dude did you ever find it? I want it in my library and have searched relentlessly haha
15:00 that lighting though!!
Id love to find a galant vr4, Thats the closest you can can get to this sleeper in america, There is so much potential in the 4g63 engine.
splitty vw at 8:38 !

sweet, I always loved the Cressida. nice way to haul ass in style....
marty looks like a romanian gipsy in those clothes :D
hahaha
that turbo sound, music to my ears
11:58 Go home Renault Clio, you're drunk.
You really dont get it do ya? No respect for and in the car community is ruining everything. Youre a twat
It's a 182 Clio, it literally has 182hp stock out of NA 2.0 4banger
Loser
You know, here in Saudi Arabia, anything that lasts for a long time without malfunction is called a Cressida, because that is how a cressida is, for example, my air conditioner is a cressida :P
+Yousef Noori (JoeyGames) lmao
+Yousef Noori (JoeyGames) What if there's a Toyota Cressida that is a cressida?
Well done MCM, this was yet again another great episode to watch. Great work on the Cressida. :D
Mood what was that about hondas? 8:20 and you bought a what? Haha
the old 7M wasn't a bad engine, yeah ok the head gaskets went constantly, but they jut kept on going!
+Bindo Just replace the head gasket with a metal one and torque it up properly.
+GHOST
Yeah, ARP head bolts/studs might help too.
TheAnalXylophone The metal gaskets come with the headbolts.
ARP sells bolts/studs only, but I've seen kits with them and HKS metal gasket.
+Bindo head was torqued wrong at factory
I been here since the kill switch days, the. This half cut swap and look now Marty is doing his own half cut swap. Where did the years go?
I bet as they pulled up for the drags the XR6 driver was thinking "What a P.O.S. I'm gonna walk this in my 6cyl turbo!".....
+Rich77UK Got to love older cars, they are way smaller and lighter so you don't need as much power. Every year the same model cars get bigger and heavier. That cressida is a low small car compared to todays.

I'm pretty sure it was an NA xr6
OMG was this the birth of the grandpa outfits, or had they done this before?
So neat to see the follow-up about the new owner!
What does flashing hazards after chopping people means in Australia?
You won
It's like a second knock down of pride, pullin gin front and hazard lighting them is kind of rubbing salt in the wound, maybe disrespecting them depending on the situation too.
You won and you're going back off the throttle now
that asian chick in the supra..yum
Wtf
Hollyyy shittt
Sean Thomas I said the same thing when i saw her.. lol
Sean Thomas thats probably even her name too
aaronzack14 wat
Hearing the sound of the cressida come to life with its new engine is music to my ears
12:29 dave from customspraymods lol
epic ending...😁😁😁😁
Back here again
One of my favorite episodes guys! I'm loving the Cressie!
WHAT THE FUCK IS THE SONG? YOU KNOW THE SONG I'M TALKING ABOUT.
All music is done by Moog and is described in the about section.
No he only has Jimmy Rabbit and Transformer. I am talking about the Garbage Truck Rap.
Michael Morano I KNOW IM DYING TO KNOW THE NAME!
I'd say try using "SHAZAM" the music app for android, not sure if apple has it. It's a free app that'll listen to music and tell you what's playing.
JoshuaM Thanks
Were they resurfacing the road with a flamethrower at 13:00? XD
it makes the road sticky for more grip ;)
At santa pod they do it with a jet engine strapped to a pickup
Jon Norman 'murica!
Jon Norman Jet engines are usually used on drag strips to dry a damp track, roseta torches are usually used on the trap.
atsernov Yeah they also use Karcher window vacs for smaller patches of water
Reminds me a little of my Merc 190E 2 litre which my friend and I put a 3 litre from a 300E into. Not as fast though, but feels quick because of the exhaust and a manual transmission.
I got a Mitsubishi FTO GPX for free by knocking on a door.
cool
That girl at 12:23
What a smile :)
14.5 with a twin turbo... Needs major suspension upgrades, and a better tune. And with that auto trans, it needs a high stall converter or better yet, manual swap to drop that into the 13s. Then comes forged internals and more boost!
Cute girl in a supra.... good lord, looks like I left aus way too early.
she was super cute...
plus she drives supra which multiplies her cuteness even more
1 question, why the FUCK would you leave that auto gearbox in there???????
Keeps the ECU happy.
ThatGuyOnCoke wasn't the chaser ecu used??
The chaser had an auto gearbox with a couple of hold switches
ThatGuyOnCoke Now, I haven' t payed attention whether was the 1JZ an auto or not, but I assume it's a manual because it impossible to start in 2nd gear with an auto just the way Marty did at 14:07 .
ThatGuyOnCoke Plus a 1992 Toyota automatic gearbox does not shift that slow, belive me, i owned one. ;D
This video changed my mind about the new Mitsubishi's Fords and Subaru's in the drag strip I just realise sleepers with good engines and comfortable sets can always win they're a bit rubbish but that doesn't mean the are slow
the girl driving the black supra with moog in the passenger...who was she?
I'm jealous of the Supras.
Dude @ 5:18 whos off road rig bumper! Now thats sick!
the 1JZ sounds weird as an auto
Ignorant American here, what is a P plate?
P for probation. For the first few years after you get your lisence. Certain restrictions with power and passengers.
Aaron Bordin That sucks, thanks for the info though.
How does it suck? it just gives novice drivers time to learn how to propperly drive.
It sucks because we can drive what ever we want, like myself I'm 17 and I drive a BMW 540i that pushes around 400whp (yes I know that isn't a stock number I've done work on it)
Xantho Poulos
"It sucks because we can drive what ever we want"
No it doesn't.
of all the vids i have watched over the past couple weeks this is my favourite....
I'm America we would put an LS in it and it would run 11's.
Sick
Ls wouldn't suit a cressida I wreckon
Yeah right lol.
people do that with s13 Nissan 240s because everything fits in em lol
Scootastic MC the Gm Ls or running 11's (only with my reaction time ;)
I love this episode, i used to have a cressida it was a fun car to drive but it died a few years back.
I believe the new owner wrapped this around a tree?
+Matthew Pearce Well at least he probably had fun until he did it.
Should have left the traction control in haha
+ashley locke owning a Cressida, turning off ABS and TC isn't recommended lol this thing is tail happy and the weight transfer isn't all that great. It's more scary than fun
The brakes fail and that car is scrap metal now crushed and in pile in the scap yard the car had no abs or traction control it locked up into a tree a year later .we still love you Benny brakes are for losers
Awesome! got a good friend of mine whos been talking about doing this exact project for a while now. i can say now after watching this I'm fairly interested
it is and many older autos start in 2nd unless selector is in 1 or L position. some also start in first if floored harshly.
its more about protecting our own car market. We can import JDM sports cars, just not cars that were sold here in some way or arent considered enthusiasts cars. The chaser was basically a cressida which was australian delivered.
You can bring in anything you want if youve owned it for a year and can prove you used it over there
Going to Australia has always been on my bucket list. If/when I do, I want to buy y'all a beer or twelve.
Straya's boring af. Go to japan.
So.... Have you been down under?
I smiled continuously during the drag race. God I love that Cressida with the 1JZ engine!
Wow what a throwback to a simpler time, $600 Cressida's cheap 1jz. Cant believe I didn't know this ep existed. Most recent SCA Ad isnt the first time you guys have dressed up as old guys!
I love what Mighty Car Mods is all about
Props to MOOG and the original tracks!
There is no other sound like 1jz's exhaust sound :X Just perfect..
hey guys that 1jz swap is truly an inspiration.... i am officially ah fan! am Looking forward to seeing more of your projects. Steering wheel is from a 94-5 6th gen Celica. If the original purchaser chose the no airbag option.
Same steering wheel as mine
anyone else hear the really quiet baby laughing at 8:12 when martin is giggling?
Mechanical Stig (Ben) should have his own RUclips repair show. I love his walk-by bumper removal.
Ah man I know so much Toyota Cressida cause my Dad owns a1991 7MGE Toyota Cressida he is going to like this video.
I love this show, the old man with hat impersonations are epic!
I know we here in Aus can definitely import whole cars, so I am assuming it has something to do with it being a twin turbo, or something like that to do with the nature of that car in particular.
This may be the best car show in existence.
that hanging exhaust at 3:00 made me spit my drink
The turbo Camry they just did is cool but it cannot top off this first sleeper build of theirs.
I have a s30 1974 260z with a 1jz 62-1 single. Great build!
hands down best mcm build ever!!! LOVE IT!!!!
nothing beats quality time with your friends in the drive. :) thanks for the videos. Making any cameos in the US??
sweet kombi at 8:51
you guys should mightymod a vintage VW like that!
If Australia does not let you import the car the engine is from how to you work around getting it on the road when the engine is in another car.. great video
I love these old affordable builds. it would be cool if they did this same build again but with a 2j
one of my fav episodes yet! MAAAAAD
Very nice. I want a Mk3 (1985) Cressida with a 2JZ swapped into it with a beefed up auto, for that ultimate sleeper look. If that's too costly, then I'll take a 6-speed manual with the 2JZ.
Great job guy's!!! Why don't you do something similar with a Toyota Tercel !?!?!?
when they started the car 2:56 ... sounded nice!!!
I miss my cressida! Though the bumpers on yours are much better than the usdm bumpers, thinking about those makes me not miss it.
There is a car that is the exact body and shape as the cressida but it's called the mk II (Mark 2). It has the suora engine in it already from the factory
*supra .. lol not suora
suora=straight in finnish, made me lol
I was like WTF too :DDD
I believe it was only the Mark II in Japan, elsewhere it was called the Cressida and that model (MX83) got the 7M-GE which is still a great engine
That's the engine that was in this car. XD
you guys need to go to more of these drag races in that cressida
