Yeah underscore was a great starter theme for build your own Wordpress Theme. i Recomended this video to learn how to make Wordpress Theme with underscore: ruclips.net/video/DwD_9-OTwT0/видео.html
For the first time in my life I can say that I got a grasp about how this WP theming works. I've been developing software for many years and I have never gotten even close from understanding anything about creating a WP theme Great explanation
I've been web developer for 5 years, and I always buy premium wordpress themes because I'm always afraid to learn how to make my own, and now that I notice is not that intimidating I'm start doing it!!! :D
+Juan Bonnett Development is like painting a picture. WordPress is like Paint-by-number. Asking a developer to create a custom WordPress theme is like asking an artist to do a paint by number that's on a puzzle he has to put together first.

You've done it yet again! Thanks!! Just a note for peeps struggling in some spots on this vid....I"m a professional WordPress developer and this is the first time (besides my self-guided online coding program I took) that I've come across developing a theme BUT this is the FIRST time I have understood how to begin to create a theme. In all honesty, when my code wasn't working as I followed along, I thought surely LearnWebCode missed something...then I thought about how accurate and explanatory of a teacher this guy is (Brad?), and I went back over the vid until...voila!! It all works as long as I follow along closely. Cheers!
When I found out that unlike what they say that with WordPress you don't need coding, I was very much Intimidated and didn't know where to begin. By following your tutorials step by step I can't believe that I am actually typing php codes. I have a long way to go but I feel like with your tutorials I will be able to get a good grasp on WordPress... Can't thank you enough!
Hi, I have watched your first two tuitorial's, I would love to build my own wordpressblog and some day add it to the internet. I am deaf and need subtitles on RUclips videos and most are non existant or completely incorrect. As a result I rarely watch educational video's here as I can't follow what people say. Your first two videos had the CC option and while there was still some typos it was easy to follow. But the third one doesn't and I was wondering, if it's not too much hassle, could you try and add subtitles to your videos that don't have them? Thanks :)
Without a doubt, this was the best ever video tutorial on WrodPress Theme creation from scratch anywhere on the Net. It is amazing how quickly one can learn if a subject is lectured by such a gifted teacher as yourself. Thank you for sharing.
Hello, If you are facing any issue with "function.php" file. So I would like to suggest you please make confirm with file name spell should be "functions.php"...! not "function.php"..!
The reason you are so special is you keep moving along without unnecessary explanation. This makes your videos very easy to watch again without getting bored. I find that most people who teach go off on too many tangents. If someone doesn't understand something fundamental, they can go to the wealth of information on google and RUclips and learn it! Teachers NEED to realize this and quit trying to do so many things in their courses... paid or not! Good job. This is why I paid for your UDEMY course. If you make another course that is more advanced I will buy that also. I particularly would love to learn some php from you and more reverse engineering of a already made design so that we as learners can get ideas and be good at reverse engineering websites.
Thank you so much for your great teaching. I am learning a lot with your videos. I am a graphic designer and I want to become a web developer to combine them and create beautiful websites. Thank you, thank you for your time and the dedication you put in these videos tutorials. Keep up the good work.
OMG. This is pure gold. I am keen on learning to code, and in fact was taught HTML years ago - basic, but foundations are still there. Now, a business I am collaborating with needs some URGENT update on its website, which was done by a professional studio on Wordpress. We have no budget for a major re-do and because of how the website was built I have found impossible to even add a page with information.... very frustrating. Thank you very very very much for this tutorials. They are making my life so much easier -while I learn more coding!
Hello Brad! I enrolled in your course in Udemy. I haven't started it yet because I wanna learn WP first. I just wanna ask if this tutorial will work for WordPress 2017. Thanks.
Yeah underscore was a great starter theme for build your own Wordpress Theme. i Recomended this video to learn how to make Wordpress Theme with underscore: ruclips.net/video/DwD_9-OTwT0/видео.html
You saved my life.... The first week of work huh being asked to learn wordpress, I had no idea what's going on until watching your video. Thanks a lot!
At 3.30mins, once I've created the php and css text files, I return to the Wordpress dashboard to view the theme but I can't see it. There is a notice that says 'LearningWordPress' is broken and the Stylesheet is missing. I have done everything as instructed(i think) (and I agree with everyone who has said what a clear good teacher this guy is!) Any suggestions please?
Every other Wordpress tutorial I watched was overly complicated but yours is so easy to follow. Chancing upon this tutorial really made my day !!! THANK YOU!
Roman, try checking that the folder with PHP and CSS sheets is in the right location. If it's not showing up it could be that it's placed in the wrong folder.
Help! I'm having trouble with my index.php file, my site displays the "Hello world" step just fine but as soon as I enter any php code the page goes blank. I've checked and double checked the coding and it's identical to what you've written, I really can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
This kind of issue is usually from PHP's side, page going white most probably means 500 internal server caused by improper PHP code written. Maybe missing out on properly closing the PHP tag or functions or so. Can I see your code?
thanks, I've been using WP, but recently I realized that I need to get informed how WP is made. I'm triying to build a theme for my school where I work, and expanding my capability about WP, being totally out the traditional WP box. Thanks again, it's a great thing to have a guy like you here.
my learning wordpress theme is not showing up. It's coming up as style sheet missing. Don't know what I did wrong. When you created the .css files, did you use a text file as you didn't quite explain what you did
If you're using windows 10, on the explorer go to File, then Options [Folder Options]. Click the View tab, then uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" Go back to the folder and make sure it's not "style.css.txt"
i have the same problem, my wordpress backend (the dashboard) can't be synchronised with my folders. If i delete a theme, lets say the Twentyfourtenn, manually form the theme folders, it will continue to exist in the dashboard
I solved it, depend on the installation, some times the wordpess folder exist in /var/www/hmtl/!!!!! not in the place that you unzip the wordpress file
You are truly a gifted teacher. These are some of the best tutorials i have ever seen. And I've watched a thousand of them. Your enthusiasm is infectious, and you go at exactly the right pace, not too fast, not too slow, and no irrelevant speech. A1
ya. You computer couldn't find it and it is possible that when you save it, notepad automatically change it to .txt even you typed .css or php. Look at the TYPE of your file. If it said text document means you didn't save it as .php or .css
Amazing. In 23 minutes (in fact it took more than 2 hours to understood) I feel I learned whole high-school course. Very nice presentation of information. My applause.
Man. You have some really great tutorials, but I wish you would slow down just a bit. For instance, you no sooner type the closing bracket before you're zooming out and on to something else. I'm following along, trying to make sure that my wording is the same as yours, but it would be so much easier if you would just slow down. I know I can rewatch this as many times as I need, but when things change so fast, trying to skip to just the right moment every time is exceptionally annoying.
Krista Prenesti Hi Krista, that is a good point and something I will try to keep in mind when I film new videos. I understand pausing and rewinding can be annoying, so my only suggestion would be to download the ".zip" file in the description of each WP tutorial video. That way you can open the "final product" of code for each lesson in your own text editor and see if it matches what you had gotten out of the video. Thanks!
This is the best, most simplified teaching for creating a WordPress Theme. Best instruction I've ever encountered. Can't wait to go through all the tutorials. Seriously a gift for explaining this stuff in a way that is easy to follow and understand.
As with a lot of other people, my function.php does not work. Without this working it is pretty much useless to keep going. I did just as the video said and what the comments said. I renamed the file from functions.php to function.php but it still didn't work. Here's the code. function.php:
+Hertzole Your add_action line is wrong. it should be: add_action('wp_enqueue_scripts', 'testtheme_resources'); Note: the first parameter is 'wp_enqueue_scripts' NOT 'wp_enqueue_style'
You are the greatest person I have never met. Thank you. You seriously just became one of my favorite people. I just watched like 3 hours of your stuff. This is awesome!!!
Ha, thanks so much!! For watching ~3 hours you deserve a prize :) If you have any requests for topics let me know and I'll move them up the priority list.
So excited to find this playlist! I've tried working with the stock themes and even working with Elementor and customizing the Hello Elementor theme and haven't been happy with either. Seems I always run into problems understanding their technology. So... I decided, based on all the new features in WordPress 6.0, to try building my own theme just using WordPress. Thankfully I'm a retired web developer who was able to read and understand code, however never developed the knack to create the looks and functionality I desired. Your playlists here seem to be right up my alley. Thank you!
You mister are a really great teacher! Excuse me for the next text, but these are the exact words that are in my head: "You talk to us (your audience) as we are complete dummies and that is why it is so easy to learn from you. You do a really good job and even now, at the beginnings, I am goddamn sure, I am gonna learn a lot of thing... THANKS TO YOU!" So thank you sir, for being here for us!!!
Haha, thank you so much! Some people find that style of teaching condescending, but I know that personally when I'm learning a new topic, I learn best if the teacher acts like I'm a complete dummy and doesn't assume I already know a bunch of things I actually don't yet.
It should've been created 7 years ago. I've been waiting for it for years. It's a much better video than any other one. Thanks for sharing this video, man.
The notion that 'Wordpress' is easy for someone new to website building is a joke. As is often the case, someone who knows what they are doing types away without explaining what any of the code symbols mean, and without any real teaching techniques that a newbie can grasp because you don't approach it from the perspective of someone who knows nothing about any of this. You are obviously very skilled, but you assume too much as you attempt to show how it is done. I have watched half of this video and to me, it is meaningless gibberish. More confusing than useful. You need to go about this in baby steps, assuming a newbie is just that, a complete newbie. Sorry.
I feel there's no point watching it without prior knowledge of html, css and PHP. Otherwise, you can copy the code but you have absolutely no idea what is happening.
He targeted this video for the people that want to make their own themes. It is not targeted to people that doesn't have any experience with coding and want to get a free / paid theme and customize it.
This is a Wordpress tutorial, not a HTML, PHP and CSS tutorial. The video isn't titled *"html, php and css tutorial on Wordpress"*. You may want to look into those three before diving into this tutorials. Luckily, html and css are quite easy to grasp. PHP is a bit more difficult but not that much :).
You literally just have to follow along with what he does and take notes of the the php code. Then practice on your own, people just want everything spoon feed to them.
I just wanted to say 'THANK YOU' for such an outstanding lesson. I've been searching for something like what you are teaching for about a year and I am so very glad to have found this tutorial! Thanks again!
FOR ANYONE HAVING TROUBLE WITH "FUNCTIONS.PHP". Try replacing this line in "functions.php" ... wp_enqueue_style('style', get_stylesheet_uri()); With ... wp_enqueue_style('style', get_template_directory_uri() . '/style.css'); Replace "get_stylesheet_uri" with "get_template_directory_uri" and add " . '/style.css' " to the end of this line. I am by no means an expert, but it worked for me. Best of luck!
Bravo. I like the way you explain the things. Systemized info, without bla-bla, prepared for direct brain penetration. There is fluent speech and voice, without mumbling (as in many other videos). Good job, man.
I have researched WP learning/training videos for years. You have done a great job...Your systems, style, pace and knowledge are well developed or you are a natural. Keep creating content -
from last 3 days i found 6 wordpress theme develop tuts .. but in this video i got my concept clear.. thank to learn webcode. . i request to upload more video related to wordpress plugin development.
Just as the others are saying: Great entry-level tutorial! I just needed someone to explain the basic concepts to me - which, as you have proven here, are not that difficult. But hardly any other tutorial nor the official Wordpress documentation bothers to explain these simple php function you need to get going. Thank you so very much!
I should have started your Wordpress series with this one ! I totally agree with all the comments below : everything looks pretty simple with you at the commands ! I also recommand your videos about CSS to everyone who'd like to have some fun learning this language. Thank you so much !
Ha ha ! it's years since I was in a programming classroom.. 1990s for C and C++ and how slow do I feel now for I have to pause every 10 seconds to make sure I capture the details ! You click quick and zoom out before I can get the last chars you type.. It is however a pleasure to sit in your class.. and a big thank you for teachinng us..
Dude... this is awesome. I watched your 1st two videos, and this one is definitely way more advanced, but your way of clearly explaining is fantastic. I'm going to be eating thru your other videos! Thank you!
Havent touched WP The_Loop for years as it was bizarre idea when I was still junior web dev. You made it sound like its too simple. Now I fully understand how theming works. Thanks a lot man!
I have studied your Udemy - become-a-wordpress-developer-php-javascript Course. That is amazing for any beginner of wordpress many many thank to teach.
Great Wordpress tutorial. So clear and easy to understand. I've never been really good with PHP, but Wordpress just seems to make it much more fun and easier for me. Love your approach to tutorials. I especially get a little chuckle out of your high pitched 'whooops!' moments.
I love everything about this video! There wasn't a single moment where I asked myself "ok, but what's that for" or "how am I going to combine all this" or even "why". Best tutorial video I have ever seen and you sound like a very patient teacher and a really nice guy! Keep up the good work :)
Neat introduction! Now I'll stop spending money on buying wordpress themes and start creating myself :) Thanks a lot Brad! Looking forward for your upcoming Udemy courses!
Thank you, this was exactly what I was looking for. Surprisingly I was reading a couple of books on programming for WordPress and they gave code examples but never defined where to write it nor the need to put it in a particular directory within the WordPress installation. This was extremely helpful. In all fairness to those books, I did not read them in their entirety, I only looked for the content where I thought it would make sense to find it. So, maybe I missed it.
I really enjoy your tutorials; your teaching style is reminiscent of Khan Academy. This video was extremely informative without sounding condescending. Thank you. :)
thanks so much for this! Im just getting into web development and I have been trying to figure out how to create child themes/ edit existing themes and its so overwhelming sometimes, trying to figure out someone else's code. I decided to just make my own from scratch and this helps alot
I appreciate this tutorial. It is very well done, and even though I am not 100% familiar with all code, this has been extremely easy to follow. Thank you.

You teaches very well.... Much respect for you....
waar zijn mijn flowchaarts
You are the greatest person I have never met. Thank you. You seriously just became one of my favorite people.
I just watched like 3 hours of your stuff. This is awesome!!!
Ha, thanks so much!! For watching ~3 hours you deserve a prize :) If you have any requests for topics let me know and I'll move them up the priority list.
Thank god i can just pay people to do this for me
+Mr Plainview lol.....I do so understand.
+Mr Plainview good i can do that for u :)
Great video! Get here some information how to make your WordPress Theme fast enough for great PageSpeed wpressmag.com/fast-wordpress-themes
Thank you!
You are making the easy very difficult
You mister are a really great teacher! Excuse me for the next text, but these are the exact words that are in my head:
"You talk to us (your audience) as we are complete dummies and that is why it is so easy to learn from you. You do a really good job and even now, at the beginnings, I am goddamn sure, I am gonna learn a lot of thing... THANKS TO YOU!"
So thank you sir, for being here for us!!!
Haha, thank you so much! Some people find that style of teaching condescending, but I know that personally when I'm learning a new topic, I learn best if the teacher acts like I'm a complete dummy and doesn't assume I already know a bunch of things I actually don't yet.
Am I the only here who hates his php syntax?
He did not expand much on the syntax.
Better start googling
This is a Wordpress tutorial, not a HTML, PHP and CSS tutorial. The video isn't titled *"html, php and css tutorial on Wordpress"*. You may want to look into those three before diving into this tutorials.
Luckily, html and css are quite easy to grasp. PHP is a bit more difficult but not that much :).
You literally just have to follow along with what he does and take notes of the the php code. Then practice on your own, people just want everything spoon feed to them.
You teach both clear and, what is more important, interesting. We see that theme dev is fun! Thank you for that man.
Try replacing this line in "functions.php" ...
wp_enqueue_style('style', get_stylesheet_uri());
With ...
wp_enqueue_style('style', get_template_directory_uri() . '/style.css');
Replace "get_stylesheet_uri" with "get_template_directory_uri" and add " . '/style.css' " to the end of this line.
I am by no means an expert, but it worked for me. Best of luck!
Thank you so much ! You are the only one that simply explained on a clear way the process . Good job .
Bravo. I like the way you explain the things. Systemized info, without bla-bla, prepared for direct brain penetration. There is fluent speech and voice, without mumbling (as in many other videos). Good job, man.
'without mumbling' jajajaja
I have researched WP learning/training videos for years. You have done a great job...Your systems, style, pace and knowledge are well developed or you are a natural. Keep creating content -
I have no words to bide him a gratitude for this kind of teaching style.
You are a genius teacher!!! I have stumbled through Lynda and VTC and so much else and learned more from you than all of them THANK YOU!!!!

With Computer science background. This tutorial took me from 5miles to 180miles per hour. Good job
great tutorial! i never new where to start till now. you get straight to the point and dont waste time! thank you
Just as the others are saying: Great entry-level tutorial! I just needed someone to explain the basic concepts to me - which, as you have proven here, are not that difficult. But hardly any other tutorial nor the official Wordpress documentation bothers to explain these simple php function you need to get going. Thank you so very much!
One of the best WordPress tutorials on RUclips !!!!
First ever flawless tutorial on internet. Really, Amazing.
Thank you!
Awesome job. Seriously, figuring out everything from the códex is difficult, too much effort. This series is absurddly well done.
Thank you!
I like the idea where we start from scratch. It helps understand what is going on in code.
This is one of the best tutorial i ever seen on internet. I can't believe it; thank you so much!!!

Havent touched WP The_Loop for years as it was bizarre idea when I was still junior web dev. You made it sound like its too simple. Now I fully understand how theming works. Thanks a lot man!

Your teaching style made, complicated subject, easy to understand, thanks for the video.
You have opened a new world to me, tons of thanks, thanks and thanks to you.. loved your training style
Awesome and simple tutorial got me engaged to leaning wordpress. Thankyou LearnWebCode
Very fast and comprehensive tutorial, loved it ! Thanks
I really enjoy your tutorials; your teaching style is reminiscent of Khan Academy. This video was extremely informative without sounding condescending. Thank you. :)

This is what I searched about theme making. Thank You!
thanks so much for this! Im just getting into web development and I have been trying to figure out how to create child themes/ edit existing themes and its so overwhelming sometimes, trying to figure out someone else's code. I decided to just make my own from scratch and this helps alot
This tutorial is very much easier to understand. Thanks you a lot.
Oh my god, thank you so much! I watched many tutos on wordpress and it's the first tine I actually understand why I have to do these actions!
Talk about cutting the confusion, it's better to design your own theme, yes of course, thank you for this mountain of information.
Amazing! This is the new best WordPress tutorial I have ever seen. I'm looking forward to the next one. Another thumbs up to add to the 4,733.
