Black Mesa (2019) - "We've Got Hostiles!" - Topside Battle

- Опубликовано: 18 сен 2024
- Freeman reaches the surface for the first time since the Resonance Cascade to find out that the military has taken control amidst an overwhelming artillery strike.
Black Mesa does a great job of setting up the HECU as this absolute force to be reckoned with. The score by Joel Nielsen, the constant bombardment, and the Osprey circling around all enforces that Freeman is not equipped to handle the military machine. A great shock and awe moment.
"THIS IS THE WORST RESCUE OPERATION IN HISTORY!"
"I'M REPORTING ALL OF YOU!"
The music stars with a shot and finish with a shot, you're a god dude
Took forever to sync but I'm glad it paid off :)
GAMER GOD10101010101010100010103020202000101
And with gun light
Nah
with the same gun too
1:48 that magnum shot at the end was synced so perfectly
Didn't realize it during recording. Was pleasantly surprised when I was reviewing it =D
That was epic, i realized that too
same thing at the start
Also at the start 0:26, opens with Revolver and closes with it 😎
@@biucc23 "professional has standard"
This fight makes me think that the HEV suit is like a power armor. It makes bullets ricochet off it, and can keep you alive by administering morphine if it has power that is. I could imagine Gordon ripping and tearing through aliens and marines with no issues. Would love a coop game with Barney, Gordon and Adrian fighting together against the Combine.
Yeah, I think the HEV Suit is essentially power armour. Freeman is essentially an orange tank
I think that's what they said it was
@@blacktemplar1139 I mean yea it is a set of protective gear that takes power to work, but is it an exoskeleton supported set of power armor? Also how the fuck is this comment 2 years old it feels like it was made a few months ago...
Damn a fellow fan of both fallout and half life.
Of all the different walkthroughs and lets plays of this game on RUclips, you're the ONLY one who gets the pacing of the warehouse fight to match the music. I know it's more efficient to go straight for the bunker ladder, but that cheats us out of such a great scene.
Great work.
Aww, thanks so much for the kind words! That's exactly why I play the way I do, I am glad that you noticed :)
so glad i'm not the only "Weirdo" who plays like this lmao
Honestly thoe 🔥
Agreed
1:20 I like how you really encapsulated the essence of "ok fuck this I'm goin back underground" with no words
The music definitely accentuated it. The devs really hammered home the point that the HECU is no joke and Freeman is not ready for the surface yet.
“FALL BACK! FALL BACK!”
@@Sexy_Nutella helps put a good idea of the situation as it developed across the game. By the first moment that Gordon gets topside, the resonance cascade is relatively small and contained. The alien encounters up to this point have been mostly accidental, or at least, the first scouting incursions (vortigaunts presumably reporting back to Xen via the vortessence)
Most aliens were within the facility, locked in, and any that tried to escape met the HECU, who’ve evidently deployed at every known exit, forward operating bases, landing zones and artillery.
Later on, once alien grunts started showing up, that was the Nihilanth launching its full invasion force, teleporting in on the surface and with targeted precision. This clearly threw off the HECU as their previously fortified positions are now crumbling from behind their own lines. Hospitals coming under attack, horrific encounters within and outside the facility, and the apparent loss of aerial superiority, it undoubtedly dawned on them that they were not going to cover up black mesa, not with the resources the HECU had
Everyone is talking about the beat and stuff, but I really like how it didn't look like you knew where the ladder was, only retreating to the bunker when they started to overwhelm you, like how it probably would have canonically gone down, Gordon just fighting until he's forced back into the facility.
Glad you picked up on that, I did intend to show that Freeman didn't consider going back down until it's clear he's overwhelmed.
This gameplay looks straight out of a trailer, amazing
It's what I was aiming for :) thank you
That was sick. Whenever I played I'd miss 90% of my shots and look like some scientist who graduated with a degree in theoretical physics from MIT.
Trust me, a lot of attempts were had in making this ;)
At least you don't shoot like someone with a theoretical degree in physics.
This song makes you feel like a goddamn doomguy
Gordon's gonna rip and tear until it is done
@@Sexy_Nutella rip and tear until he's out of that hellhole lol
Expect your fighting elite USMC units
Known as the H.E.C.U
I want glory kills in half life now
0:26 the sync is perfect holy shit
I miss the magnum in the newest release solely because you can't time it to this anymore :(
@@Sexy_Nutella Why not?
@@SimonClarkstone The beat drops in the hangar but the soldiers are no longer there in the Definitive Edition, so you can't sync up a shot to the beat of the song anymore
never knew going up an elevator could be this epic
The score makes it :)
"Why is the elevator playing boss music?"

@@Mondayz408 okay redditor.
In a lot of games I look for a good recording of scene with epic music and none of them try to match the pacing of the music with shots and gameplay. It's how I get the most enjoyable experience out of it and I'm glad you do too.
Thanks!! I'm glad you enjoyed :)
The fucking timing was flawless. Started and ended it with a revolver headshot. Actual skill.
Thanks man :)
This is the moment that hooked me for this game. What an amazing project
Yup. I remember the first time I went up to the surface as well. This game is amazing
That elevator where the music starts and opens up into a wide area full of enemies is pretty cool. I had 4 health when I entered the lift and Crowbar had a contingency. There were trucks parked, enemies made themselves scarce, and plenty of cover to get to the medic bags on the wall.
Damn I’ve never felt so badass running and gunning down the HECU
You shot exactly when the music intensified and the gameplay is good
Glad you liked it :)
This one's definitely going into my music playlist.
Everything's synced so perfectly, and it makes me wanna play Black Mesa again!
Always a good time to replay this gem ;)
Incredible gameplay, better than most I see :D
Thanks dude! Glad you enjoyed it :)
LOVE HALF LIFE AND REMASTER BLACK MESA !!!
0:48 oh lord jesus that aim
Not my finest moment
@@Sexy_Nutella You would make a good Stormtrooper
@@Sexy_Nutella- spy
by far the best song in the whole game
One of my faves as well :)
I swear blind when I was going through this level; the artillery sounded way louder and scarier to me; like I was legit afraid the hanger was going to come down it was that loud. I guess if you have certain versions the game the audio for certain effects changes; because boy when those shells were hitting they sounded like the real deal.
I never felt so afraid to step outside that building in my life.
haven't felt adrenaline from a game in a long time, this was seriously fantastic when I went through it
Same here. First time through here was intense
We are gonna kick your ass!
-HECU Marine.
*HECU Marines proceed to get their asses handed to them by a nerd with a crowbar
You sir, terrify me
Now imagine how terrified the HECU are of Freeman ;)
@@Sexy_Nutella they just turn around and the guy with the suit they've been hearing about is just systematically annihilating every single solder
"That's the old passage to the Surface. We don't go there anymore."
"We Don't Go to the Surface" could've been an alternate chapter title haha
"we're at war"
"with who?!"
"a scientist"
That Escalated Quickly
Went from 0 to 10 real quick for sure
what surprised me was, why the soldiers used the missiles to kill 1 person and until the missile hit their friend
Lol, yeah, the artillery guys took danger close way too literally
@@Sexy_Nutella FIRING FPF1!
Pretty sure these were mortars, but yeah, Marines don’t know what danger close is lol
@@seanwallcroft6272 What exactly is a mortar, anyway? All I know about them, at least from Metal Gear Solid 5, is that they're some kind of cannon that shoots explosives on an angle.
@@tailsfan11westandwithukraine I mean, that’s exactly what it is, just a tube that sends explosive shells at a high arch trajectory. It’s used because it’s portable and very easy to use compared to more complex artillery pieces
I wanted to play this chapter matching with music but my skill was not that good. Your playing satisfied me. thx
Glad you liked the video!
best playtroughts I've seen in my life. Subbed!
Thank you :) Glad you enjoyed the video!
_"This is not some agent provocateur or highly trained assassin we are discussing. Gordon Freeman is a theoretical physicist who had hardly earned the distinction of his Ph.D."_ *Doctor very fucked (A.K.A Wallace Breen)*
Loved hearing that in Nova Prospekt. Couldn't wait to fight my way up the Citadel and rub it in his face after that comment
1:01 It's incredible how you appreciate sky in the middle of a fight
This has to be the best thing I’ve ever had the pleasure to play through.
When a nerd kills a battalion of soldiers
HECU soldiers: payday players
Gordon freeman: *The cloaker*
God damn just give this guy a beat and he’ll win any fight, and he’ll look like a badass while doing it
Appreciate the kind words :)
I feel like this kind of firefight action is what made Gordon go silent from then on.
He has mad PTSD for sure
“WE GOT A HOSTILE!”
GO! RECON!
Man HECU sure are epic
It’s just sad they left half life 1 black Mesa and the half life 2 franchise
It would be great seeing HECU fighting combine in the half life 2 campaign
@@Larpr0 most of the surviving hecu marines are probably either in the resistance or combine soldiers
This is the type of music you would listen to when you want to and act like a badass. S+ tier music.
The timing of that first shot
Una de las partes más épicas de todo el juego :D

Perfecto!!! Thanks for all the goosebumps
Gordon is the doomguy of Half Life universe
Instead of Mick Gordon's badass heavy metal we get Joel Nielsen's awesome score ;)
Biggest "NOPE" in gaming history.
Seriously, only Valve's storytelling allows an entire level designed to deliver one very clear message to the player.
Right? I love that the map essentially serves to give a great big middle finger to Gordon but also moves the story forward.
imagine training side by side with some of the best and most lethal in military warfare, armed to the teeth in a combative force large enough to take on a small city and prepared to kill anything that moves and then some dude with a phd dressed in particularly sturdy lab equipment decimates your entire platoon on his own.
"wait, why the hell is boss music playing? And why is the elevator moving-"
-some random hecu soldier before the battle
This bring back some memories
Nothing's going to top playing through this the very first time back in 2012 :)
i love it
2mins and 19secs of my life well spent

Before this moment we were playing as Gordon Freeman.
Since this moment we are playing as GORDON (fucking) FREEMAN
Gordon became the Doom Slayer here
Dr. Gordon Freeman please.
I love how they lunch mortar at their mens 😂
To make a game fight badass you must have badass music
Indeed, this is one of my favourite tracks
SuperCell: Im make a brawl stars!!!
Crowbar Collective: what?
Why did you put brawl stars here. Why. Just. Why
the song fucking SLAPS
ALL H.E.C.U. soldiers are harmed in the making of this video.
By a nerd in an orange environmental suit no less
1:06 lol killed their own men
I always wondered why the HECU thought it'd be acceptable to rain down airstrikes when their own troops are still alive and well there
A whole army can't kill one scientist in a suit with MP5. Wow.
His suit is basically a giant orange tank, that's why haha
@@Sexy_Nutella Orange tank with morphine lol

For us, this is a epic battle, for the h.e.c.u though....
Its a impossible boss fight against a human in a black n' orange tank
the magnum in we've got hostiles feels cursed, but it was used well here
HL Devs
What you did in life, will echo in eternity...
HEV suit or not, Gordon is a great shot
Yeah, those hours in the Hazard Course really paid off big time!
FINALLY! Someone else who plays how I do...to the music. I always get hyped when the music kicks in. Check all weapons, reload and then let fly.
It really makes you feel like you're in an action movie for sure
this goes so fucking hard
Half life music: Funny
Black mesa music: EPIC
I do love the HL1 ost though, but Black Mesa's tracks are definitely more cinematic.
The song started with a flashlight and a Magnum shot and ends with another shot
Intentionally timed, glad you appreciate it!
Intense!
Let the gun do the talking
I felt that magnum shot.
Imagine playing this with a bunch of people in an elevator
The first time playing this part, the music made me want to charge straight into the fight. It was stupid, but I killed everything and had so much fun.
And Gordon is cool dude.
