Black Mesa (2019) - Forget About Freeman - Topside Battle
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 10 фев 2025
- In his journey to the Lambda Complex, Gordon Freeman ascends for one last surface battle with the HECU and witnesses the last sunset he'll ever see for twenty years. Featuring the most impressive skybox in the game (with the exception of the ones in Xen).
A redo of my original video of the same battle from the 2012 mod version. The lighting and terrain has been overhauled, dynamic lighting is introduced, and the battle is made more difficult through an additional wave of soldiers.
Original video: • Black Mesa (2012): For...
The original: a small area with 2 troops and a tank
Black Mesa: Larger space, 30 troops, a tank and some aliens flying above
And in the 1.0 they added some tanks and military stuff explored by the aliens
@Zodiac Griller Black mesa has that too
@Zodiac Griller ??? What
@@zodiacgriller8 that's a different section of the game and Black Mesa includes it anyways. The sewers in Forget About Freeman have no tactical gameplay whatsoever it's just an access route, you're thinking of the garage that comes after shooting down the helicopter in Surface Tension. If you are going to be a luddite fool you can at least get the context right.
@Zodiac Griller virgin half life 1 fan vs chad black mesa enjoyer
1:31 absolute nut moment with the beat drop and the flying Abrams turret.
I was so happy when I saw that I got the timing right
You are an actual god of gods
my adrenaline level ran to infinity
That was so freaking kino.
Love how you stop to look back and see the last sunset that Gordon Freeman will experience in the World he knows. Keep it up Nutella, eagerly awaiting your Surface Tension videos from the definitive edition.
Thank you. The song is what makes this sequence, I felt compelled to just stare at the skybox as it ends because it just didn't feel right otherwise.
Part 2 of Surface Tension should be up today :)
It is not sunset of the world that he knows. I t is the sunset of this full world
ok
@@wingstar3048 In a matter of hours the world would change. A lot thought the nightmare was over after Gordon killed the Nihilanth and closed the rift our world and Xen...but it was just beginning.
@@American-Zero Seven hours, to be exact.
When I first played this part it was perfect. The music, the gameplay, the fight, everything. Worth the wait.
Hell yeah! I was like a kid in a candy store the first time I went through it in 2012 haha
I love watching the sky battle between the H.E.C.U fighter jets. And the mantas especially while that song is playing. It just looks epic
Yep. Probably one of my favorite moments of the entire game.
I love the background battle going on! Harriers and Xen creatures just duking it out in dogfights. Really immersed me in the battle.
Yeah. This is one of the moments of the re-imagining that really sells the hard work that went into making it.
Some of them for some reason looked like Russian ground attack aircraft
And also oddly, HECU Apache helicopter chasing the manta-rays as well.
@@ardantop132na6 guess HECU command was just that desperate to contain the airborne threat once they lost control of the situation
It's interesting to think about G-Man's "nudges", as he describes his influence on Half-Life's events, in context of Gordon's incredible success in fight with HECU during Black Mesa incident.
I mean, of course, Gordon has HEV suit, which seems to give him more damage resistance and fast movement, and he seems to be much more comfortable with firearms, than your typical theoretical physicist, however, I don't think that alone these alone are enough to wreck platoons of highly trained military grunts.
Everytime Gordon meets with HECU grunts, they are either busy fighting aliens, slaughtering innocent civilians or trying to set an ambush, and I say the word "trying", because Gordon seems to arrive too early, for it to be effective, with the only exception being one after first battle with the black ops... After which they dumped Gordon into garbage disposal.
Seems too lucky for me, except he was not lucky. Gordon (and possibly every entity in HL's universe) was just playing his role in a stage written by G-Man.
Come to think about it... It is great metaphor for game itself. There is no "freedom" in Half-Life experience. "We" as player one have just role to play in a game, that was created and planned by it's developers.
Holy shit, I just love Half-Life.
G-man probably did have a large degree of influence in the games and pulled some strings to aid Gordon in his quest, with the eventual goal of fulfulling his own agenda. I think that's why he looks so pissed at the start of HL2EP1 - the Vorts screwed with his plan and that's why he resorted to going with Alyx.
yes, that was the exact thematic reason for the game's linearity in something designed as much to be an immersive sim as it was a first person shooter, but with out the freedom either were expected to offer in 1998. It's almost like Marc Laidlaw was a competent writer and so many of the boring shooters afterwards so linear they might as well be on rails learned the wrong lessons from Half Life's success.
Don't forget that when Gordon dies, G-man can turn back time a bit and give him another try. The re-spawm after death ability can be easily explained by G-man helping Gordon and keeping an eye on him.
Gordon's familiarity with guns might be because HEV users were trained to use weapons. As many were also part of the Survey Teams intended to go through Xen, which had quite a lot of hostile life, to put it gently.
They have weapon courses during training with HEV suit as an explanation as to why Gordon feels familiar with firearms
This is probably my favorite fight in the entire game. It feels like the HECU’s last stand against not only Xen, but Gordon too. The music is also one of the bast in the ost.
Agreed!
At this point in the game it's incredible to see how far you've come, from shooting a simple handgun in office complex.
To now overwhelming hordes of military and artillery, and using their own weapons against them along with your brains.
Epic gameplay man you really kick ass at this game.
Yeah really love the progression in this game. Thanks for the kind words :)
@@Sexy_Nutella hey... you've earned it.
When I play the game I actually remember some of the stuff you did at certain parts, and it helps me get through them a lot easier.
@@timebomb42 I'm glad I was able to help :)
I wish I had a PC lol.
Imagine this: Your a grunt, coming out of the lambda complex with your buddies fleeing to the evac. You come outside, seeing what looks like a rift between Xen and Earth, most of your buddies left without you, you see jets covering all of the ospreys, you spot freeman and you get gunned down instantly, the last thing you saw was an apache flying through the air, firing everything it has at a manta ray.
Yup, the marines put up a hell of a fight though!
I just want an alternate game where Freeman shows the HECU that they should be working together and then Gordon leads the offensive in the 7 hour war, beating back the Combine.
If only that happened :( between both parties they might have actually fought back this initial invasion
Too bad the HECU was too stubborn in the first place
There's still no way they could have won.
@@dumbautisticmutt Gordon already won this war with the help of the world's military they would have kicked the combines ass hard
@@Tismdylannah, the combine troops who arrived at Earth destroyed all the military. Do you really think that HECU could do any difference?
i love these moments throughout the game, it just makes want to see a half life movie
Right? I think in the right hands a Half-Life movie or miniseries would be excellent.
@@Sexy_Nutella i think a miniseries would work better, mainly about the hecu. Something like band of brothers but ten times more horrifying.
You can tell this was recorded just to show how cool this sequence is. Nice work.
Thanks :) if you're interested, I recorded a much better version of this sequence in the newest version of the game:
ruclips.net/video/lnrA5zZhR7w/видео.html
I know this section is based on the original game, but the way it plays here with different music is almost completely different! Wonderful score of music by the way, the gameplay coordinates with it so well! Thank you for letting us casuals witness such an experience.
No problem. I love that they totally revamped this area from its not-very-memorable equivalent in HL1.
I love how is this scripted sequence best with planes, music, and fight ;3
Yeah it's one of the game's best sequences!
I like how unrealistically powerful the SPAS-12 is turning the marines into a nasty mess
Part of me does miss how the enemies ragdoll instead, but the gibbing is undoubtedly satisfying to see
Tactical Baguette I don’t know what you mean by “unrealistic”.
@@alpharius2omegaboogaloo384 There is no way possible "ripping apart" a human with that rifle, onlt 50caliber (12.7mm) can do something like that, and it is an anti air heavy machine gun.
@@dustypaint A SPAS-12 is a shotgun, dude. Not a rifle. And with the right ammunition, shotguns can do some nasty shit.
@@ateanelephant I thought shotguns were considered rifle too, sorry, english is not my primary language. I know shotguns are pretty nasty but there is no way they can turn a body armored human into gibs, at least not like in the game
That one dislike is the HECU marine killed by Snarks.
Makes me want to reinstall. The way you coordinate the gameplay and scripted sequences with the music is rad as hell.
Thanks! Takes a lot of tries but hope it's worth it. Joel Nielsen's score just has this innate ability to make me (and most players, I'd wager) want to time my combat to the beat.
You should definitely check out the game again once Xen comes out. With the way the beta is coming along right now, it does seem like the entire Xen portion should be coming out by the end of this year. It's been delayed a couple of times though, so no promises haha
@@Sexy_Nutella Oh no doubt. I haven't gone all the way to lambda since the original mod release, but that stellar soundtrack has been haunting me for years. I'm looking forward to those final chapters - and your cinematic take on them. Keep up the sweet work
@@Thisaccountisadhoc Definitely! Looking forward to their final Xen release as well. I'll be sure to get some footage out once that happens.
SAME BRO
I love how it plays one of my favorite tracks of the OST
That's what i call a perfect synchronisation between set pieces, action, camera angle and soundtrack 01:30
DOOM players playing any FPS game be like:
Lol yeah. Gordon is like doom slayer,
But a scientist.
@@KuroParasite Xen Slayer
One of the bests way to play
Doom fans dont relate doom to any fps game challenge (impossible)
@coolwolf5425 I mean Doom is the grandfather of the FPS genre, people gotta acknowledge the true OG.
It was at this part of Black Mesa that I realized it's my favorite PC game
Hecu : Trips
*Body explodes*
Why are the HECU always so dramatic...
@@Sexy_Nutella idk
They actually recently changed this are a little,. They added a sequence where a manta flys over and destroys two lav-25’s
Yeah I saw that as well when I played through again. Might have to record a new version of this haha
1:30 very good sync with arguably the best part
Watching at the sky, while the track is nearing its ending, makes me think how the history of the humanity will abruptly change forever after the black mesa incident.
PD: 2:01 BUTCHER Shotgun lmao.
Yeah, I love that part of the track.
@@LouizSlein Honestly living under the controll of the combine across the universes they conquered is probably worse then living in wh40k, cause atleast you are still human there in a hive city.
actually awsome vid bro
Thanks dude :)
Extremely epic battle, and then the next room you watch a marine get bit by snarks.
The last part of the song seems to reflect that too, with how somber it gets
1:30 That sync of the explosion with the beat drop tho!
By far my favorite moment from black mesa
2:38 Dance till you're dead in a nutshell
This video explains how i like to sync my moves with the Music in this game lol
Yeah, the songs in this game are composed so that I always feel the urge to sync my actions as well
2:38 :c
Moments like those make me feel bad for the HECU :(
@@Sexy_Nutella They may have butchered your friends only hours before, but what goes around comes around.
2:39 - The corridor was Xen terraformed in the final version?
Yeah, this was recorded before the 1.0 release. The new topside battle is even more epic.
Gordan Freeman in the hazard suit!
I really like sky battle Soldiers beating for the earth to the end
Same! It's a wonderful moment.
Aliens trying to kill the military. Military trying to kill the aliens. Here I am, with an HEV suit, a Ph.D theoretical physics, and a LOT of ammo.
Come get it!
1:30 Sentry Down!
Freeman's sappin ma sentry!
just remember FORGET ABOUT FREEMAN
Damn I don’t remember this game looking this good.
It looks even better in the Definitive Edition release :)
I wish i could play this beautiful masterpiece
It's not going anywhere if you're just waiting for better hardware :)
@@Sexy_Nutella not going? sry couldnt understand

0:54 oh lawd he comin
Too bad it only takes a few RPG hits to down. Makes it seem super weak :/
1 scientist vs 1000 soldiers and aliens
"Who would win??"
This part is just FIRE🔥🔥🔥
For some reason I want a battlefield sized map of black mesa for multiplayer now
That'd be cool to play DM or TDM on the surface, with all the various topside facilities.
1:06 instinct is to right click
2020 version is just *B E S T*
You forgot the part where Aparch chasing and taking down Xen air drop
Heart beating scene
Totally. One of the best in the game.
very epic
Definitely epic :)
After seeing this i cant imagine how Seven hour war would look like...
Sorry for bad English
Your english is fine :)
İts hard to belive its just a fangame
Well it's a retail game now, and they deserve every penny for it
you're really good
Just a ton of runthroughs to make it look as cinematic as I could! Thanks
The 2019 textures give me TF2 vibes
I really want to see a version of half life where the combine never invaded earth, thus leaving the planet alone with xen and race x and the vortiguants. I imagine if would be quite interesting seeing Earth after black mesa where it isn't a dystopian night terror.
I LOVE THIS CHAPTER ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Same! One of my favourites, even with Xen added.
Is it just me or they made this battle bigeer after full release?
Yup. This video is outdated. The Definitive Edition changes a couple of things about the battle to make it feel larger.
1:31 nice synchro
extreme battle!!!!, wohoooo i like it!!!! :D
Glad you enjoyed :)
@@Sexy_Nutella ok :D
OMG I like this part
Same here! one of my favourite parts in the game
This was quite a pain on hard difficulty.
Great
Glad you liked the video!
epic
One of my favourite sequences in the game!
Man, you rinsed these guys. The marines are so hard in Black Mesa. That's my only criticism of the game. They're inhuman sometimes.
Yeah, I was fortunate enough to record this before the 1.0 release made the HECU much harder to fight.
@@Sexy_Nutella HECU is dumb in 1.0, they Say " YOU'VE GOT NOTHING!" before they even see you
@@barszczsosnowskiego3359 Worse, "I HIT HIM! YEAH I HIT HIM" and "HE'S HIT" when you're nowhere near them and no side has even shot.
1:28 i think i just nütted to that
I loved that part of the song
Abrams turret TO SPAAAAAAAACE!
Of course, HECU soldiers are wrong, and sometimes very annoying.
But this chapter and the soundtrack just made me say:
Sorry guys, Freeman out.
What is the music in this video called? I really want it for a game Im creating.
It's called "Forget about Freeman", composed by Joel Nielsen.
@@Sexy_Nutella Thank you, I already found out before you told me though.
Hi i have a question what is your favourite weapon in black mesa and what gun looks best (im just curious)
I really like the Tau Cannon.
@@Sexy_Nutella okie i quite like tau cannon and gluon
is it me or did they nerf the HECU too hard in this version? the tank is too weak and the marines seems stupider compared to half life one where even one marine could destroy you. They even lose againts the vorts all the time despite canonically marines were simply overwhelmed and not outclassed.
The HECU are still pretty formidable, they deal quite a bit of damage. Though their AI is pretty buggy at times. They hold their own against Vorts pretty well, in the latter parts of Surface Tension, there are times where they actually win encounters against the Xenians.
2:00 jajaja F
HECU: Forget about Freeman
Freeman: 1:30 Bomb has been planted, Allahu akbar.
1:31
Half life is perfect
It's the greatest FPS of all time!
