Since its introduction, Bing has been a meme. People have always seen Bing as Microsoft's crappy attempt to take on Google. And though Bing was a massive loss leader in the early days, over the years, it has evolved to be much more than just that. You see, Bing has been able to create a pretty strong niche user base thanks to their rewards strategy. This has only been assisted by people’s growingly negative opinion of Google and growingly neutral opinion about Microsoft. This is no coincidence either. Microsoft has become a lot more passive over the years and has started to embrace its competition instead trying to compete against everything. This has allowed them to make a chromium-powered Edge that’s better than Chrome. And it appears that Microsoft is carrying over this same approach to Bing as well. Instead of trying to force Cortana down people’s throats, Microsoft has opted to incorporate ChatGPT into Bing which seems to have generated a pretty positive response from the public. This video explains the underdog story of Bing and why Bing is not a failure

B2B is what makes Microsoft is good at and it’s great they changed to that. Like Azure focusing on building themselves in the background and in the case with bing focusing on targeting the miserly rich ans embracing collaboration instead monopolisation lol

In regards to Bing bringing in 2x as much revenue per user, it could be because people who use the default search engine and browser on their PC are more likely to be older and less tech literate, thus they’re probably boomers with way more money than average and are therefore more lucrative for advertisers.

This video is interesting and well crafted, with one thing that bugged me enough to point out-if you could mix up your wording more so that you’re not calling things “lucrative” every two seconds, it would be a bit easier to listen to. Right now it feels like Microsoft is paying you to say the word “lucrative,” with the word “profitable” coming in close behind it. Just gets repetitive and tiresome. But other than that one nitpicky thing, this is a great video and definitely better than anything I could put together. Will be interesting to see whether Microsoft takes over Google in this space in the next decade.

I really dislike what Google is doing in its search algorithm. I switched to Bing as my primary search engine three years ago. More often than not Bing gets the results I need and shows more results that are relevant to the subject I'm looking for than Google. Google has a tendency to show results that are more related to commercialization, i.e. results that as to do with marketing and selling items that are (or might be) related to the subject being searched. In short, as a search engine Bing is what Google used to be: a search engine, whereas Google is now more like an advertisement site.
