Before i knew about the dragon I thought it was Kuros'. I thought 'well, if a liquid had come directly from a source of immortality then it'd be concentrated immortality, it could surely be enough to make smaller organisms immortal, in particular parasites.'
I mean I can't think of a poison are in Bloodborne. Though I guess the Brain of Mensis part could count as a poison area, given the frustration you get.
I know this is super late, but one line of the Mibu priest’s dialogue really makes me think. He laments that without more potent dragonspring water, some group is “unfit to be citizens of the palace.” I wondered why he was tricking people into drinking the waters of immortality and turning them into zombies, but I think based on that dialogue it might have been a misguided attempt to turn the people of the village into the type of being that lives in the fountainhead palace so they could ascend. Based on the corrupted monk and the mist noble guarding the paths to Mibu and the divine realm, and the cruelty and trickery we’ve seen from the mist nobles in most of their appearances, I think the mist nobles are trying to bar entrance to the divine realm so they can coerce the people into looking for a different way, and the one we fight as a “boss” mislead the priest so he would have people drink the stagnant waters and degrade. Given the presence of humans in Mibu and the fact that the outcast is holding out in the outskirts in a zombie apocalypse-type scenario, I think these developments are relatively recent.
O-rin of the water was my favorite fight. It hadn't occurred to me before how rhythmic the parrying system was before her. Plus I just love how she floated around. Must've died to her twenty times, I didn't care, it was that much fun.
Honestly a lot of the mini bosses are my most favorite fights. O’Rin, the generals, the Ashina spears. It’s a shame Reflection of Strength doesn’t let you re-fight O’Rin

Something I would like to point out that I only learned thanks to my foreign studies class. There is a tale of how a carp was reborn as a dragon through swimming up a waterfall, there is even a saying that references this, "yú tiào lóng mén." In Chinese mythology it is believed that the presence of scales on dragons proved that they were once fish who managed to leap the waterfall. Finally my own connection, if you look at all the fish like enemies such as the carp, mist nobles, and great carp, you'll notice they all have prominent whiskers, who else has whiskers like that? The Divine Dragon, this is not really much but I figured I'd throw it out there.
This is true. Even in Yakuza Kiwami 1, Kiryu the protagonist has a dragon tattoo and his rival Nishki has a Carp tattoo. Here, Nishki wants to challenge Kiryu which symbolises a carp trying to ascend into a dragon.
While watching Monogatori, it was mentioned that snakes are seen as a symbol of immortality and rebirth due to them shedding their skin. Might explain why the giant snakes are worshipped thought the game, seeing as immortality is a key theme.
By far, Jin is one of my favorite NPC's in Sekiro. I mean, he is determined to find the source of it, thoughhe never wanted anythign else, no other gain but to find out why it was played to him, and in the last moments, you can hear the relief, the fulfillment, and of course over all the time you interacted with him, his gentle, relaxed voice, it drew me in a lot, it really, really made me feel attached to him, so his death at the end, it saddened me to no end.
Dante Escalante dude the isshin fight is amazing and fucking brutal. I love that in sekiro the fights feel much more even than in a lot of the souls games because bosses tend to be of similar size to you, but they’re jut as hard if not harder because of how much stronger and faster they are than you. In a way that makes them seem even more imposing to me
Good video. And I think you got most of it right.... but you've over looked 2 things. Divine Confetti and Snap Seeds. That might seem random but their effects on the game shed some light because they have no overlapping effect. Snap Seeds are used to dispel illusions and can remove any enemy summoned by the mist noble. But it also can stun the Corrupted Monk astral projection; up to three times. How ever snap seeds have no effect on any ghost enemy of the game including O'Rin. Divine Confetti on the other hand, besides from giving a small damage boost to all enemies, does major damage to ghosts. But it also does major damage to two very physical bosses of the game. The headless Ape (which includes phase 2 of the guardian ape fight) and there are reports of it doing decent damage to the Demon of Hatred. This to me seems to indicate that illusions and astral projections are in one group while ghosts are in a totally separate group. Which makes sense as only one group can actually do terror damage to the player. This might then go on to prove that O'Rin has no real connection to the Mist Nobles. After all she is the only dead person in a village of immortals.
This is amazing! Drawing out all this lore from all the small and easily missed environmental story telling; then making it into a full comprehensive video series. I never even notice the majority of the environmental story details throughout the whole game in the scenery! Thanks for your hard work on these. Makes me have such a deeper appreciation of this game.
I have a theory that could explain what the mibu villagers are doing as well as why the monks in senpo temple died, though they were supposed to be undying. The dragon likely moved to japan after being hunted and wounded by the mortal blades, and his blood probably fell in the fountainhead water, giving it its rejuvenating properties, that carried over to the centipedes. Maybe they posses the ability to draw from the water's power and give to others. Anyway the cycle goes dragon > dragon's blood > rejuvenating water > centipede. This power that gives immortality flows that way but isn't infinite. My guess is that the only "true" imortality comes from pure dragonblood, and that the rest are just "fake" immortalities. That's why the sempou temple monks died, they are far from the depths of ashina, and the centipedes that invaded them gave them a lot of "life energy" (that they stored from being in the water), and while it seemed like immortality, they were simply harder to kill. As there were no waters that touched the dragons blood in their temple, they just slowly used that energy without replenishing it. I also guess that this is the reason they created the divine children, as they tried to pursue true immortality. If this theory is correct, that probably also happened in the fountainhead palace, the water flowed and took the dragon's blood with it, rendering the remaining water stagnant. The game does hint that this is what happened because the noble, those that arrived after the okami, are incredibly weak. That could also be why the woman that kills the nobles complains about being deceived, as she didn't become immortal. I do believe that is what happened because sekiro never has to use his mortal blade to kill the minibosses in this area, though you would expect them to be immortal like the ape and mubi villagers. This could have been what triggered their failed invasion too. But if this rejuvenating water eventualy loses it's power, why are the mibus and the ape undying ? My guess, again is that they are just really resilient, and since they're both located at the end of rivers that carry rejuvenating water, this energy accumulated here. The game hints that this is what happens again at the end of the second fight against the ape. He is left on the ground barely moving, this imortality doesn't look like sekiro's at all, i believe it is because the ape and its centipede ran out of life force, and are already dying. The game also describes the rejuvenating waters as a substance that "gives flesh great resilience" and NOT immortality. If that is the case. The okami may be trying to get back this water filled with the dragons life force that accumulated at mibu village. We know that drinking to much of that waters corrupts and gives cancer like tumors. Since they can't drink it, they make the villagers drink it (using their sake that gives thirst) to produce shelter stones filled with the fountainedhead water's power, and they make them fish for these carp-like slugs, that could also carry some of the lifeforce without being corrupted. That's why we see several of these stones and fishes in the wedding room that leads to the palace. Because if they were just afraid of the ashina coming to attack them, they would just make sure no one can obtain the ingredients of the incent, and not produce shelter stones at all.
Eddie Smock Are you sure that's not because of the time? The Spirits come out at night and this is mentioned in lore. The only reason I ask is because I've never done things too out of order so the 7x I've played I've always arrived at night.
One of the things I wondered about most when I was binge playing it is why do only a select few attack you when that Mist Noble has that illusion up? I'd say about 90% of the ones you run into during that section are either completely oblivious to your presence or just have no desire to attack you(even when repeatedly bumping into them trying to get them to aggro, I've even killed one of their buddies in front of them and that didn't work either) with the remaining 10% becoming hostile on sight - the only explanation I can come up with is the guys in that certain area either aren't really illusions(more like real spirits being held in place, stuck, by whatever ritual the Noble was performing hence their disappearance upon its death) and the ones that do attack are represented as those you've killed personally which wouldn't just explain why they're attacking but also falls in line with "Vengeful Spirits." I realize the bit about them not being illusions and being an actual manifestation is reaching a little(especially considering every other Spirit we encounter in different area are immediately hostile and how these function a bit differently in their banishing) but that's the best I've come up with so far.
@@WhiskeyTango76s i have no idea about that but i just found out that two of samurai spirits also appear at the gun fort door where the centipede boss is if you defeat him but then get the mortal blade and shelter stone before going to snake bridge
Fun fact: O'rin is the spirit of Jinzaemon's mother. She died probably at birth and one day she just knocked on the house of her husband Sakuza wanting to see her child. He was mortified and ran with his son, and told him to never ever step foot at a mist hidden village. Sakuza and O'rin are Jinzaemon's parents. She's a bound spirit that can't leave her place of death so she plays the shamisen calling to Sakuza and her son Jinzaemon.

HEY VAATVIDYA I HOPE YOU SEE THIS, I found some interesting information on the black mortal blade. After you return from the fountainhead palace after killing the dragon, a new chest will appear in the tower that Isshin usually sits in. Inside the chest is information on the blade. The black mortal blade's real name is "Open Gate". It said that the blade has the ability to open a gateway to the underworld. My theory is that Isshin the sword saint is the shura version of Isshin Ashina. It says that Shura is when a person starts killing for the simple purpose of killing. Isshin was desperate to become the best warrior in the land, he undoubtedly killed a lot of people in that process. Isshin slowly started to become Shura, then he fought with Lady Tomea who snapped him out of the madness by cutting his eye. This explains how Isshin knew how to save the sculptor without killing him. The sculptor says that Isshin cut off his arm "for his sake" Plus the two Isshins we fight in the game are very different. The Isshin we fight during the Shura ending of the game tries to kill us because he is trying to protect Ashina from the threat of Shura. The Isshin we fight during the other endings seems to be attacking us for the simple pleasure of killing us.
the isshin you fight in the ending is not fighting because he is shura, if he was he would be clad in red flames, he is fighting you because the black mortal blade seems to revive the dead and forces them to the will of the one who revived them and revives them at their zenith.
It seems more likely that when using the "Open Gate" that the user can bring someone back to life and they must fulfill their wish, because Isshin says something along the lines of "Pitiful Grandson, this was your final wish. To see Ashina returned from the great beyond". It would make sense that either the returned must obey the final wishes of the one who brought them back, or that Isshin sees it fit to try to fulfill those wishes, seeing that Ashina is on the brink of despair as the Ministry invaded. However it seems that he must do what his Grandson wishes because when he knows he is defeated as the Sword Saint, he kneels down and faces death the respectable way, allowing Sekiro to execute him in a traditional stance. However in the Shura ending, he dies instantly not allowing an unjust man as Sekiro kill him in a respectable way. He also says something like "Sekiro, it was not meant to be." which seems to point that he knew there was a different and possibly better way things could have gone in a fight between them (Any of the other endings).
@@ashrust8911 Genius! No need for any other winding explanations and theorizing, you just solved the biggest unsolved mystery in gaming history. Why didnt nobody else think of that?!
The Great Carp and Fountainhead Palace give off a lot of Dragon's Gate vibes to me. It's a myth about a magical gate at the top of a waterfall that transforms any koi (or carp) into dragons when they leap through it. The Dragon's Gate myth is Chinese in origin, but the Sakura Dragon is said to come from the West. China is west of Japan, so it doesn't seem so far fetched that the Great Carp aspires to swim upstream to the top of the divine realm in hopes of becoming a dragon. It also explains why the two pot merchants are so hell bent on becoming carp.
I don’t know how supported this theory is, but a small part of me thinks that Usui Forest (where Owl and Butterfly are from) is the Hidden Forest of the Ashina Depths. I know there isn’t much evidence again, but Usui Forest is described as a “forest filled with mists and mystifications,” or illusions, which the Forest near Mibu is abundant of. The other thing though is that Butterfly’s Illusions take the form of villagers, who while ordinary humans wield the same weapons and tools as the undead villagers of Mibu. Keep in mind the undeath of Mibu is very recent. This is made clear by Basket Wearer Shosuke, who is a normal person and explains that the villagers only recently turned undead from the Priest giving them Sake to drink from the water surrounding the village. The only hiccup is that Usui Forest is described as being “far to the North of Ashina,” And it doesn’t appear as such on the ancient map, but the map doesn’t necessarily seem as being drawn with North a up, instead being drawn to best keep Ashina Castle at its center, and the Outskirts flowing from it on the bottom of the image. If there is Japanese on the map that indicates it being North oriented, then I’m mistaken, but the fact Mibu Village appears to the side and down might not contradict this description.
Also , the hidden forest cannot be Usui forest simply because Mist Noble only recently took residence, Usui is said to be naturally filled with mists and illusions.
As someone who was nearly killed in a car hitting me, it feels amazing to watch lore videos like this, so thank you for being so creative and for giving me something to enjoy
To make a quick comment on something you'd said in the video, about the bodies found at the bottom of the lake in the village... The upturned bodies who's legs were sticking up from the lake bed.... I believe that, rather than looking for slugs as you'd suggested, perhaps these villagers, like similarly within the Greek mythological story of Narcissus (who unknowingly drowned himself while admiring his reflection on the water), may have drowned themselves while drinking of the lake's waters while indulging and attempting to quench their "insatiable and unquenchable thirst". This would explain why their (the villager's) bodies were inverted, legs straight up, in a pose that would clearly be the result of someone who was gluttonously drinking from the lake after plunging their whole head into the water, in order to swallow mouthful after mouthful of the sacred water which flows into this lake.... Paints quite the clear picture of someone bent over at the lake's edge, head in the water, gulping down more and more and more water, eventually falling all the way in, drowning themselves accidentally due to their being so preoccupied with drinking, that they paid no attention to their need to breath, sinking to the depths and coming to rest in this exact same pose, head down feet up, no?....Anyone else seeing the same mental image?
A really cool idea for future videos is analyzing boss tracks/themes and what they mean. It could uncover a lot of new perspectives and secrets (maybe)
There is a fourth ghostly person in the game. Right after you beat Rin a Samurai pops up on the bridge. You meet some ghosts like him near a prayer bead and graves. I always thought Rin is waiting for a man who's been dead for a long time already
I haven’t seen anyone point this out, so- Does no one else realise that Kos is just a GIANT version of one of the slug women that come out of the shells in the fishing hamlet?
p' sure that's why we can find a whole group of the snail women praying. I believe it's implied that one can 'enhance' oneself into a Great One, so Kos might just be an extremely enhanced version of the snail women. There's also a cut 'snail princess' in the files, which might be a precursor to the snail women
@@succubasu Kos is most probably the Hunter's nightmare version of Gerhman. The popular theory goes that Gerhman wasn't a surrogate for just the Moon Presence, but also for Kos. The evidence for this is that sometimes in the Hunter's dream you'll find Gerhman mumbling to himself and crying, and his crying seems very similar to how Orphan of Kos cries.
@@francescofrancescato1251 he didn't kill the Orphan, he killed Kos, or atleast helped in the killing. Hence why he was cursed by Kos and later struck a deal with Moon Presence.
1:27 I fell like the land of the hidden forest is the mist raven, mist raven is a bird of fire and mist. owl can use it and he's from this forest. owl can enter the mist and use its flame. we can also use it as a prosthetic tool, and the final upgrade confirms that mist raven is a land god.
I believe so too, there's a few more connections but it stands to reason besides that the "gods" of nature the people of Ashina worshipped were tied intrinsically to different parts of the land
The first time I read the description of the jizu statue, it came to my mind O’Rin wasn’t interested in Sakuza per sè but rather about something else. Statues were told to be protect children and being sign of parental love. So my first guess was Jinzaemon might a son or descendent to O’Rin who crazily looked for her dear Lord to have any notice of their child. And that’s why Jinzaemon was so attracted by her shimasen and felt so tired, as if it was a lullaby that stucked in his head , while Rin was sadly longing for her child. And that’s how you obtained a symbol for parental love instead of romantic or either why she had written so many letters. If she’s an okami descendants she and her Sakuza might have been torn apart after the end of the war, with their shared son in ashina. She tried to keep in touch desperately, but failing and considered all those who didn’t know Sakuza liars. Maybe he was famous. If jinza is lured to doujin he’s a valid opponent after all
The music selection in these videos elevates them from really good to outstanding. You've nailed the somber, rich, melancholy and epic atmosphere of the story itself.
In regards to the war, I'm reminded of something from a Magic: The Gathering set called Kamigawa. A lord named Konda stole a young Kami, a spirit, which he intended to use to make his kingdom everlasting (I think, some details escape me). It triggered a war between mankind and the spirits they once prayed to. I wonder if the people of Ashina took something sacred to the Okami clan? Where exactly does the Dragon's Heritage come from? It's a sacred bloodline, but it does serious harm to mortals. Maybe it was never meant for them.
A subtle detail I love is that the game takes place at the end of the Sengoku era, in the 16th-17th centuries, and all the samurai wear the style of armor, tosei-gusoku, and nanban-do-gusoku, that was prevalent in that period. The Okami, however, wear do-maru, which is the armor prevalent in the 13th and 14th centuries, because they left Japan ages ago for the Divine Realm and haven't had access to the latest technological advances.
Me: hmmm. this lore youtuber is pretty good, but I don’t think I’d want to watch all of his videos Vaati: I’m a frayed knot Me: This is quite obviously the best content on the site right now.
My theory is that the mist noble is the mortal Takeru sealing away the immortal corruption and stopping the pilgrimage. Rejecting immortality and enlightenment is against the senpou monks wishes that occupied the temple and in their twisted way against buddha. Tekeru could no longer initiate the wedding ceremony as he lost his heritage to Kuro but because he was not dead the pilgrimages continued. If he didn't create the mist then all of Ashina would have ended up like mibu.
My god what a coincidence I had forgotten about you and your channel Vaati. Today just a couple of hours ago when I woke up I put on your merch hoodie and thought "Oh yeah, this guy. I wonder if he'll upload soon". I start up my pc and head for RUclips and what do I find? Today my friends we're all blessed.
Jinzaemon wears purple. The only purple garments are from Interior Ministries units. Hes obviously a foreigner to Ashina and he wears a shinobi headband. His name is also scarily similar to Owl's name (Ukonzaemon) who seems to always have purple shinobi in his wake. There's even a ministry shinobi in the Hirata Estate where Owl first enacts his plan to betray Sekiro and steal the Dragon's Heritage. My guess is he came with the ninja thats looking for you, but the Shimisen player distracted him instead.
There might be some truth to this. I actually didn't talk to this guy until after beating O'Rin, I went back to the reservoir area, and after talking to him, he actually attacked me
Love your videos Vaati! How much enthusiasm you have for the lore of these games is infectious! My favourite game is hollow knight and the lore is just as beautiful and mysterious as the souls games, I would love to see you start a lore series for it one day.
I killed all those undeads around the pine resin guy’s house until they stopped spawning to see if I could get dialogue from him or find his dead body, u fortunately nothing happened “and it’s all thanks to inquisitiveness.” Thanks for this vid, Vaati!
A really nice touch about the design of the okami is that they're wearing o-yoroi which is a style of armour used much earlier than the era that sekiro is set in. They also use naginata and bows, two weapons favoured by samurai before the sengoku jidai. This all shows how old they are and how long ago their ascendancy was.
Something the souls games do very well is the world and I recommend any story tellers out there attempt to do this with their stories as well. No world you build should only be interesting because it's falling apart, you should, and the souls game accomplish this with flying colors, make your readers or what have you, curse the fact that they only got to see it's fall. Make them wish that they could have seen it before bits and pieces were lost to rubble and fire. I have a feeling, as a world builder myself, that when you create something like this, you create it all, you don't leave blank spots in your world and say they were once there until the "bad times". You lay it out entirely. Then you masterfully tear chunks of it away, chunks that would have been loved, that would have made certain things more clear, you do this so the tragedy can be felt. It's not just a hole that exists because a hole must exist, it was something of importance that will now never exist because of the horrible actions of that worlds people. The impact of it's absence is so much greater that way. I haven't slept for a few days so maybe I didn't clearly get my thought out but eh. Maybe one of you will get what I mean.
Im so happy your doing these lore vids.. it is hard to go through the dark times with no vaati lore vids... and sekiro being so lore lite... its been really rough
Love these lore vids. I have been watching from since before I got the game. One thing is a bit distracting though, the whistling, example: 6:28. That one was the sharpest.
I think theres a mistake. In the Hirata State memory, that dying man said to Sekiro that the ppl still go to Mibu to marry and get to the Palace. But, the Okami doesnt let anyone in, cause the war. And that war, was a very old one, probably tens of years before all the Hirata thing. So, what with that?
I came across this so late in the game that what I'm about to say will probably not reach many but I feel it's important to go into this as it gives more insight into Jinzaemon and O-Rin's lore: It's possible that some probably already know about this, but those Jizo statues wrapped in swaddling cloth are used as totems for children who died in childbirth/miscarriages. It goes to the Japanese understanding of Jigoku (the Japanese hell) where such children are at the beginning of Jigoku stacking rocks infinitely. You can see this also in Bloodborne at the beginning of the fishing hamlet, where there are mounds of stacked rocks effectively symbolizing the loss of a child. In any case, back to Jinzaemon. Why does he have this Jizo statue, and why does O-Rin come to him after "dying" to caress him gently while playing a happier tune than the morose one he was following? More than likely, Jinzaemon is O-Rin's and Lord Sakuza's son. It's probably also why O-Rin is so desperate to find Sakuza: It can be inferred that the affair between the two was illicit, with Sakuza taking Jinzaemon from O-Rin, telling her that her son had died in childbirth/was stillborn. This was not an uncommon occurrence at the time, as the difference in stature between Lords and their vassals/ladies-in-waiting was such that any son of the two would be ostracized if his lineage were to be found out. But Sakuza needs an heir, and a son is especially important to these Lords, so him taking Jinzaemon from O-Rin is very easy to imagine being done. Jinzaemon has this Jizo statue because it is his. It's literally called "Jinzaemon's Jizo", implying that it was made specifically for him. And the only times they are ever made in this way is, again, to help children who have died in childbirth survive in Jigoku. But Jinzaemon never died, yet he has this Jizo statue, implying something was done to hide his successful birth. There's really not any other way to look at it when you consider why those Jizo statues in swaddling cloths exist. I've seen a lot of people, much like yourself, attempt to look at the lore of this and it always bugs me that no one can seem to understand the importance of *why* Jinzaemon is the only person who can hear the shamisen to the point of obsession as well as why O-Rin caresses him on her way off. Add to all of that the underlying message behind Jinzaemon's Jizo and, personally, it just seems to all fall into place neatly and cleanly.
Kinda wish you used japanese voices and subtitles for this. Really adds to the japanese atmosphere imo. Still the english is pretty great. As per fromsofts usual standard
Disagree. Sekiro's english cast pales in comparison to the previous games. At least most of them, Sekijo, Owl and Genichiro do a great job and Gyoubu outshines his japanese counterpart. But all others are lackluster, the only terrible performance being Emma. It's not bad, but by no means does it come close to the quality of the souls series' acting.
It's done to make watching the video easier,so we don't have to concentrate on reading and can just watch and listen. He said this in the first lore video
From what i've seen through this game & all 4 Endings ( Fromsoft can easily come up with 3 DLC's or if not just simply go with Sekiro 2 & Sekiro 3 ). Here is how it goes : 1) Shura Ending : Sekiro becomes Shura & the Age of Conflicts Begin... but you haven't noticed Kuro was still alive & he probably escaped from Ashina Castle to the Dilapitated Temple via Hidden Shinobi Door ( the Sculptor is still alive he hasn't turned Shura becoming the Demon of Hatred ). & Fromsoft can include a DLC where Lady Emma gives u a Bell just like ( Young Lords Bell & Father's Bell ) Encountering Sekiro's Shura Boss version including "Open Gate" & Crimson Mortal Blades making this Boss fight even tougher than Sword Saint. 2) Dragon Homecoming Ending : Simply Sekiro joins the Child of Rejuvination into Western Lands like Europe ( Armored Warrior Era ) or China's Dynasty maybe... simply figuring out where the Birth place of the Divine Dragon's Heritage is. 3) Purification Ending : as we all know Sekiro sacrificed himself for his Lord Kuro to live , Kuro now is embarking on a quest to the West where he must stop the Dragon's Heritage but this Ending is the least one to come up with a DLC since the Protaganist Sekiro is dead. 4) Normal Ending ( Immortal Severance ) : Kuro dies yes.... Sekiro looses intrest to fight & he becomes the Sculptor while the Prosthetic Arm is still there with lady emma. ( This is the Most obvious simplest DLC to occur ) Fromsoft can easily introduce another Shinobi with 1 arm & put up an interesting Story line between the New Protaganist with extra details and new Prosthetic Generation Tools & all that good stuff.... of course not repeating the same story but adding a new Story & Twist lines just like they do among their Cool Games 😁✌🏼
Im really looking forward to more Sekiro videos! Also I'll be buying a hoodie as soon as I can afford it.. super happy to hear there's actually money going to the artist, thievery of design is an underlooked thing right now so I'm super happy to support you both!!! :D and of course you have my best wishes going forward lad!!
I suspect that the Okami of the palace discerned similarly to Kuro, that the immortality is a corruption not a blessing, and left the palace to descend on Ashina to also try to sever the dragon ties, and that the sunken valley Okami are remnants of that initial invasion. Tomoe also is from the Divine Realm, and also sought to help Takeru sever his immortality. So it seems like some realized the curse of the Sakura Dragon, and clashed with those who still thought it was a blessing, and Sekiro is just one more, the most recent, to be brought into this ongoing struggle.

Every From game has this format:
- a poison area;
- a forest area;
- a hazy area (which can be mingled with poison, a forest, or be someplace new)
Don't forget, a far-down reaching place of darkness, and far-up place of grandeur.
You forgot the part about the many many deaths
And the city/town place,
The place home to ancient civilizations,
The place that doesnt really fit in with the rest of the game
i mean, "a forest area" is probably common for a reason: because forests are quite common in real life.
Nice thinking, I believe you're on point there!
O-rin of the water was my favorite fight. It hadn't occurred to me before how rhythmic the parrying system was before her. Plus I just love how she floated around. Must've died to her twenty times, I didn't care, it was that much fun.

"Slugs all over the shop.."

I kinda figured that the spirit samurai that you fight after O-Rin was Sakuza because otherwise that Ashina samurai seems really out of place.
Eddie Smock Are you sure that's not because of the time? The Spirits come out at night and this is mentioned in lore. The only reason I ask is because I've never done things too out of order so the 7x I've played I've always arrived at night.
There is a loading screen tip that specifically says something about "vengeful spirits appearing at night" so i think you're both right
One of the things I wondered about most when I was binge playing it is why do only a select few attack you when that Mist Noble has that illusion up?

The sculptor says that Isshin cut off his arm "for his sake"
Plus the two Isshins we fight in the game are very different. The Isshin we fight during the Shura ending of the game tries to kill us because he is trying to protect Ashina from the threat of Shura. The Isshin we fight during the other endings seems to be attacking us for the simple pleasure of killing us.
Karma lesly isshin in the other ending fights you simply because he wants to fight Sekiro
the isshin you fight in the ending is not fighting because he is shura, if he was he would be clad in red flames, he is fighting you because the black mortal blade seems to revive the dead and forces them to the will of the one who revived them and revives them at their zenith.
Vaati: "you're not getting past this shamisen player without a fight!"
Every NG+ player: yeahhh about that
I don’t know how supported this theory is, but a small part of me thinks that Usui Forest (where Owl and Butterfly are from) is the Hidden Forest of the Ashina Depths.
Wait, Usui forest was already mentioned in the game? I only saw that name in Inner Father's memory text that was added in the recent update.
@@lanz622 Yes, it’s mentioned in the memory of Lady Butterfly and the Mist Raven in either the prosthetic or the feathers used to make it
Wait just look at the sun progression throughout the game to figure out where North is
Also , the hidden forest cannot be Usui forest simply because Mist Noble only recently took residence, Usui is said to be naturally filled with mists and illusions.

If jinza is lured to doujin he’s a valid opponent after all
3:55...so kinda like a kidney stone? Dang...That looks painful...
Your videos literally make me wanna play this game again and again.
Shelter stones look a lot like real-life gal stones.

My theory is that the mist noble is the mortal Takeru sealing away the immortal corruption and stopping the pilgrimage. Rejecting immortality and enlightenment is against the senpou monks wishes that occupied the temple and in their twisted way against buddha. Love your videos Vaati! How much enthusiasm you have for the lore of these games is infectious! My favourite game is hollow knight and the lore is just as beautiful and mysterious as the souls games, I would love to see you start a lore series for it one day.
Loved the music! Does anyone know what songs he used in this one? Especially the one after 10:20?
I killed all those undeads around the pine resin guy’s house until they stopped spawning to see if I could get dialogue from him or find his dead body, u fortunately nothing happened “and it’s all thanks to inquisitiveness.” Thanks for this vid, Vaati!
My favorit npc in the game is that old lady she is so funny i just love hearing her speak.
Can't wait until you start covering lore for 40k! You will become Lorus Hupercal, The Loremaster.
This was by far my favourite area design-wise. It is beautiful.
Top notch cinematography. I believe Miyazaki san would approve.
I can translate into Russian for subs if you're interested.
Love these lore vids. I have been watching from since before I got the game. One thing is a bit distracting though, the whistling, example: 6:28. That one was the sharpest.
If you plan to do another video on sekiro, could you talk about the okami? I feel there's a great deal about them that isn't known.
Your really good with this sekiro lore, maybe you should try dark souls
I came across this so late in the game that what I'm about to say will probably not reach many but I feel it's important to go into this as it gives more insight into Jinzaemon and O-Rin's lore:
It's possible that some probably already know about this, but those Jizo statues wrapped in swaddling cloth are used as totems for children who died in childbirth/miscarriages.
I thought the guy said "Shabooby" at the very start of the vid. Half awake, my misunderstandings amuse me.
Now I can't unhear it...Damnit...
8:57 Now I can't get the idea of you beating her with LORE out of my head...
@@sablemae8853 Yeah fair enough. Its a shame but most people would watch just for the audio so it makes sense
@@sablemae8853 it's probably just because he can't properly edit japanese vo because he doesn't understand japanese
From what i've seen through this game & all 4 Endings ( Fromsoft can easily come up with 3 DLC's or if not just simply go with Sekiro 2 & Sekiro 3 ). Here is how it goes :
1) Shura Ending : Sekiro becomes Shura & the Age of Conflicts Begin... but you haven't noticed Kuro was still alive & he probably escaped from Ashina Castle to the Dilapitated Temple via Hidden Shinobi Door ( the Sculptor is still alive he hasn't turned Shura becoming the Demon of Hatred ).
( This is the Most obvious simplest DLC to occur ) Fromsoft can easily introduce another Shinobi with 1 arm & put up an interesting Story line between the New Protaganist with extra details and new Prosthetic Generation Tools & all that good stuff.... of course not repeating the same story but adding a new Story & Twist lines just like they do among their Cool Games 😁✌🏼
hi yall. im early. idk what to comment. love ur content vaati
Out of curiosity, is there any reason Jinzaemon and Lord Sakuza couldn't be the same person?
Some people say jinza might be ghost ladys son because of the symbolism of the buda statue being for children
