This was so important to hear. We are in 4th month after our marriage. First two months were horrible. Now we are growing. Guys before marriage ! Do not have any expectations ! We are all human beings, not perfect, at all ! Love your spouse like Christ loves His spouse. Marriage is amazing to get to know yourself and other human being. Glory be to GOD
Our first year of marriage was really hard too! There was one point passed a year of marriage where something just clicked and Our respect towards one another skyrocketed and for the most part it’s been good ever since. I (the wife) Was convicted that I needed to stop having hardly any expectations on my husband and when I did that anything he did was so appreciated because one of our main problems was household chores and maybe I came across as kind of a naggy because I was stressed and overwhelmed by feeling like I had to do everything Then ironically because I laid off of him and stopped putting any pressure on him he became what I had previously expected!! Also, another thing that we started doing was declaring to one another that “they’re perfect” and “I’m perfect” I almost felt like doing that small and silly act, as we would often joke about it while saying it knowing that it wasn’t true, actually made us closer to being perfect than before!! Also trying to approach serious Conversations in a jokey way really helped Because it would disarm the person being directed at And take away the threat of them feeling the need to defend themself. We’ve been married for four years and for months now and it just gets better with time!! Marriage is better than I expected now!
So true about the honeymoon phase! I have been married 7-8 months now and people say "oh you're in the honeymoon phase" or "how long did that last?" And I never understood that because my honeymoon phase with my husband happened 3 years before we even started dating. By the time we dated we both knew so many flaws in eachother and had experienced diff conflicts together. I agree honeymoon phases come and go through life because it's a relationship that ebs and flows. And working to recognize flaws but still commit and communicate and build a healthy godly marriage can bring back seasons of what others may consider "honeymoons"

I’m newly wed and so many of these things/discussions we have already been through. It’s such a refining and humbling thing to be married. The biggest thing so far for me is learning to choose to love him when everything in me feels offended or resentful or annoyed, remembering that he probably has hurt feelings too. Using phones as well, for me morning and evenings are my most intimidate times of the day and right after my husbands devotions he jumps straight on his phone and before bed a lot of the time, even during the day when we are watching a movie together or something he will always be playing a game or something on his phone at the same time. We had a big talk about it and it was the same deal, he didn’t feel convicted about it at all and couldn’t understand why it bothered me, he’s been much more conscious since then though. Same deal as well with showing love, so many times all I need is a quiet hug and some affection, not advice or correction or something else haha. I love him, and I love being married to him. And it’s a joy to be able to become more Christ like with him as we are humbled by the Lord 🤍

God made me realize I'm seeing so much great advice on how to be a great husband before I even get there. Although Kyle’s expectation for marriage was funny, it is really hard to not enter marriage with no expectations. We spend so much of our engagement time thinking about marriage and just how amazing it will be. It's definitely been hard. I thought we would get along more. We have been through a lot. We moved twice in one year. Bought a home that has a lot of work to do on it. Our 1 year anniversary is coming up April 7th. I know God can heal our marriage.

Can anyone explain the reasoning for calling arguments "intense fellowship?" I've just never heard anyone else refer to it this way so I'm curious why someone might prefer this term.
Probably to just give it a more positive tone. Also arguments could be like “iron sharpening iron” we grow as people through arguments and disagreements and therefore that’s the fellowship because we become more like Jesus through them.

They hardly knew eachother before they got engaged lol so that’s really mainly why it was so hard. It’s completely different for couples who were dating 3+ years before marriage.
Haha we’re just being honest as we reflect back on our first year. That’s why we said don’t get us wrong it’s amazing and a blessing, however it comes with incredibly hard challenges… because it does. But we’re so blessed and grateful for our marriage and wouldn’t change a thing 🙌
