      It's really fun.. and I have to admit, they turned out really nicely. I use them all the time for decorating in either Coloring books, fine jewelry drawings, decorating cards.. basically anywhere metallic sheen is needed. The Gum Arabic makes it durable on the surface as well, though I wouldn't use it on anything that would be "handled" on a regular basis.

      I've been wanting to buy pearlescent watercolors but they're too expensive. I really want to try this out and idk maybe even sell some 😅 if I get the hang of it for sure. I am new to your channel, do you have some video where I can see swatches of these paints ?

      @@vet_draws3114 - David.. I do, but I couldn't really tell you which exact video it would be.. LOL. I show my swatch book a LOT in my Live shows.. so if you check out the lives within about a month of when this one is dated. TRUTH is, I should do a follow up, so since you asked I'll try to pop a look at the swatches into my next VIDEO which should be sometime THIS week 💖.

    Thank you which for more precise measurements! I do have a question though. If I wanted to make a two tone type like your purple below the red in your palette, could I just mix 2 colors of the pearlex pigments together to achieve this? For example mix blue and purple pigment together, then add the gym arabic? Would that then create a two tone, chameleon type paint? Those types of paints are way to expensive for me and I wanted to make them. Thank you!

    How did they work out when you painted with them? I didn't see a follow up video on your channel with you using them? The reason I ask is because I saw other how to make paint videos and all the other ones I've seen they mull it on glass to mix the pigment with the binder? Is this not necessary with the Pearl ex powder. Thanks for your videos and any help you can give me on this. I really want to make some paint to color in my books with.

    Great instruction. May I make a suggestion? Your camera does a lot of stop and start action which made it difficult to see exactly how you were mixing the pigment with the gum arabic. Not sure what happened, but it would be better if it didn't do that. Thanks!

    wow, thank you for that tutorial, it looks so simple. I had my eye recently on some 'homemade' shimmery watercolors, but they're going for over 6 dollars a piece, at that price, I couldn't afford many, so this looks amazing. When drying, do they sink in the middle so you have to refill them several times? I've seen that happen with some people but you didn't mention it. Blessings to you, and I put in an order for one of your gorgeous books!!

    • @CLAldridgeArt
      @CLAldridgeArt  5 лет назад

      Hi Ripley275... YES, they do sink in the middle. I think I didn't mention it when I made this video because I didn't realize just how MUCH they would sink. To spite the fact that in their semi-fluid form when I load them into the 1/2 pans that I couldn't squeeze in even a drop more, once the water evaporates the sink quite dramatically, so YES.. it does need a second mixing of a smaller amount to add a second layer (to make them all professional and spiffy looking), but for my own use.. LOL. I just load it the one time :-D Thank You so much for watching!

    This is great, thanks! Question about the gum arabic - mine is in liquid form, will that also work ok? Do I still need to add the water afterwards?

    • @CLAldridgeArt
      @CLAldridgeArt  4 года назад +1

      Hi, I've never used the liquid form but I don't think you need to add additional water with it. As far as HOW much to use? I'd try package directions first because you and always add more or less as you see how it dries. Start with one pan.. see how it goes and adjust from there. Wish I could be more helpful and I'm sorry it took so long for me to answer your question.

    • @rothbyrnscreative5196

      @@CLAldridgeArt Thank you for replying! I ended up getting the Pearl Ex powder set to play with, along with a few new Holbein tube watercolors in coordinating colors. I'm going to try mixing them together to start instead of creating new colors from scratch. Hopefully they work nicely together!

    • @theyarnalist6416
      @theyarnalist6416 3 года назад

      Yes, the liquid form of gum arabic works fine. Mix with a palette knife. I did put in a drop of water to spseed up the mixing proces because the gum is pretty thick, but that will evaporate.

  • @shawnaferguson5819
    @shawnaferguson5819 4 года назад

    How long does it take to dry the pans of paint before you can use the paint?

    • @CLAldridgeArt
      @CLAldridgeArt  4 года назад +1

      Hi Shawna, you can use the paint right away (just with a bit less water on your brush than you would need if you were wetting dry watercolors).. I've noticed that as the pans dry out (water evaporates), they shrink down significantly, but don't let that worry you, it still takes a long time to use up the paint but if you want to you can mix another batch and layer it right on top of the dry layer, etc. until it's absolutely full.. then I predict it would take a lifetime to use up.. LOL Hope that answer helps.

    As a professional, I assume, this is professional grade watercolor you're making. How does this compare using corn syrup instead of gum arabic since it's pricey? & have you tried using gel food coloring, or makeup mica powder? thx in advance :)♥

    • @CLAldridgeArt
      @CLAldridgeArt  4 года назад +1

      Hi Vikki.. definitely NOT a professional grade water color by any stretch of the imagination, but the Pearl Ex powders and gum arabic are getting the job the done to create something useful out of an art supply I bought when I was doing Polymer clay art pieces and am trying to recycle to my new art discipline. As for the corn syrup, I honestly don't know because I haven't tried it. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but thank you so much for watching! 💖👍.

      You'll get a richer color with the gum arabic, plus it is definitely more archival than corn syrup. The little bottles of gum arabic are more expensive, but use one of the Michael's weekly coupons; or you can get a whole pound of gum arabic powder on Amazon for the same price as one of the bottles and be able to mix your own paint for years.

      If you buy gum Arabic in bulk or from the grocery store, you’ll save a ton of money instead of buying it at an art supply store. It’s the same thing. You can get it in both liquid and powdered form, obviously the powder just needs water added to it first before use.
