The E46's DSC is simply amazing. I did a kick plate test with one today and out of 20 other cars (all of them FWD and most of them with some sort of electronic stability control), mine was the only one that didn't spin out once. For day to day driving and during winter, I do not recommend that you turn it off.
mine wants to turn off, but I can't turn it back on, does that button reset when the car turns off, I noticed when the car turns off and turns on that the ESP off light no longer lights up
@@FREEFIRE-jm4jt No longer have the car, I think it was just another pusch of the button to turn it back on. You can try to disconnect the battary, wait for X amount (1 hour?) of time and connect the battery again, it schoud do a rest.
Works on my B3 3.3 Alpina. Thanks so much! Didn't realise I was only turning the system down, I thought my car was just being funny because of the auto transmission. My local garage says thanks too, I'll be going through tyres a bit quicker now!
Dude i would just marry you for this vid man!!! i tried for 3 year to turn that bloody thing off. Thanx i got an 04 330Cd 204bhp and 410Nm torque thank you thank you thank you.
The e46 was a great car, but the 330i in the rain really pushes your skills at times, if not careful with the throttle. During winter in Finland we would disable the dsc completely off because there would be so much snow and ice that the system wouldnt even let the car move, it would shut down the engine.
" DSC (Stability Control), Normal/Sport mode - prioritizes maintaining stability (no spinning wheels) - this'll reduce engine power at early onset of wheelspin. You'll notice this if you try to take a corner fast/sporty, the engine will cut out. OK for normal drivers who are "surprised" by using too much power. But not good when you're purposely driving in a spirited manner and applying power in a turn. DTC (Traction Control), Sport+ mode, or a single press of the DSC button - prioritizes traction over stability - will allow some wheelspin in limited-traction situations before intervening. Use this mode for sporty driving when you know how to handle some wheelspin/drift in a turn, it will let you drive faster. It'll intervene when the wheelspin gets more severe to save you, but of course can't overcome the laws of physics. But it allows more fun/natural driving in the twisties. DTC should also be used on snow and loose surfaces like gravel/dirt, where some wheelspin improves traction and is OK, otherwise DSC may keep you near a standstill at the first bit of wheelspin. DSC/DTC off - you're on your own. Will let you fishtail around a turn or do a burnout."
From what I understand with most systems both ASC and DSC you hold the button for 10 secs. It will trigger the traction control triangle on then off after 10 seconds to confirm the system to completely off until you turn the key to the 0 or off position.
Very many thanks for this. Was seriously considering flogging my 330Ci as even with the dsc seemingly switched off the damn thing just wouldn't go sideways, which was the sole reason I bought it! Is there any way of permanently disconnecting it as I hate computers interfering with the way I choose to drive...
That only work on models before 12/01, for models after this date, you need to push the button 10sec (beware in case of accident, that save a dtc if it’s disconected)
I have a 328ci 2000 December. It has the DSC button but it turns off only like ASC. Should I try holding for 10 or more seconds or is the button changed?
I do the same exact thing with my BMW because I want to be in control. What if something happens and I start to lose traction, bust because I might be turning and the computer kicks on to turn off the power to the wheels, the car could flip. If I was in control, I could keep it steady on the steering wheel while still losing traction and slow myself down and get out of whatever the situation is. But if you have cruise control, you have to have all the stability controls on or else cruise control won’t start when you push the lever.
Those lights came on without me (as far as i know) pressing the button. Would that indicate a sensor being disrupted? went away after restarting the car though and hasnt come back yet on the way home. I have had the button disconnected a few days back, but that should trigger it... i think... would be weird if it did.
Both mine are coming on mid way through a drive by themselves and with an audible beep, I resprayed my center console so had disconnected the dsc button, maybe thats the cause of my lights too
This tip did not work on my bmw, In fact pressing the button doesn't even turn s light on in mine. How do you get rid of the traction control completely

Or do anyone have any advice or ideas for me to try??
@@patty12valve53 that sucks man! You must of been in wet or icey conditions or really gave it some throttle? Even with it off it's hard to get sideways for me on dry concrete without welding the diff
Just in case I change my mind can you turn it back on after turning it off. Someone people are saying online that it is permanent. I don't like permanent especially if your thinking about selling it. My DSC seems to be broken and its cutting power when I drive with the PC on but I have turned it Temporarily off and it seems to drive ok. I'm just wary of turning it off and not being able to re-engage it.
Its somewhat safer to drive yea, its mostly turned off just for when you want to drift and stuff (or if you somehow dislike the system during summers if its slightly wet and you dont mind the tail slipping a bit) but yea, its mostly just for fun, keep your dsc on if you're not going to have a few spins in the snow :P

+KevvaFS95 it's the same thing. Different kind of system but same thing, probably just depends on what year of E46 or model you have. Apples and Oranges.
well i hold it in for about 10 seconds nothing happens. if i hold the asc in for 1 second it says traction control of basicly, but i cant see any "handbrake out of function"
press the traction control button, then press it in and hold it simultaneously for about 3 seconds, the hand break on light will be yellow instead of a red colour and the traction control icon will be lit up with it as well, that means its off. It may take a couple times to time it right. Press traction control off > the press it again but hold it down,> itl should be off!
when your hand brake is engaged the " ! " icon will be red; when you turn your traction control off, by doing those steps, the icon will be yellow instead. the turning off of the system has nothing to do with the hand brake its self. What year is your E46
