My name is Rachel Terry and I write Young Adult and Adult Fantasy, and Adult Historical Mystery. I grew up in a small town where nothing much ever happened, dreaming of grand adventures and far-away places, which I found between the pages of books. When not writing, I can be found reading, making RUclips videos, gaming with friends, or indulging in my love of history and the weather.

I loved this book and it entirely worked for me. I also thought the love scene was tastefully done, and it was refreshing compared to some of the more explicit scenes from other authors. All that said, I appreciate how well you expressed your opinions and thought this was a very good review.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it and I can definitely understand the hype behind this one. And I agree the love scene was done differently and I appreciate that. I didn't think it could necessarily be done tastefully until I read the one in A River Enchanted and thought it was impressive the way she managed to portray it.

Literally couldn't agree more!!! I am hesistant to even read the second one... if they just forget their memory in the second book, why even rush the relationship in the first book?? Keep up the slow burn! It was perfection & then is was dissappointing. Great review btw🥰

I'm 22 and I absolutely hate "smut" in novels. I think it's rather ... cringe(?) I really enjoyed she didn't go into heavy details during their little after-wedding sleepover lol

I just finished this book a few days ago and very much agree with the issues you had with it re: the lack of world building with the gods. Did anyone worship the gods? Besides the war, what was their impact and influence on the society they live in? Why were the people in Oath so sure they weren't going to be impacted? No idea!
I also thought they were pretty ineffective as 'war correspondents'. They each went out to the front lines *one time* instead of being embedded with the troops and actually reporting. Instead they jogged, built a garden and helped at the infirmary. And getting paid for it.
A much better book with gods and their impact on the world they exist in is 'Godkiller' by Hannah Kaner. I read it just before this book and have pre-ordered the sequel.

Great review, Rachel! I also don't usually get emotional while reading. However, I finished Flameseeker the other day, and that "thing" that happened NEARLY made me cry lol. Of course, no spoilers, but it caught me in the feels so much that i had to put the book down for a moment. 🤣 Sometimes it's not what happens in a story, but how it's delivered. And you delivered it extremely well! Hopefully you know what I'm referring to!

I think I do 😂 I'm glad you enjoyed it and that the book delivered on the feels.

First off great review! I had just finished this book this evening and believe it or not I didn’t get it from any social media sources. I just happened to see the cover on Amazon and was very curious. It is probably one of my favorite reads of 2023, even though what you said about the second half of the book with some thing I felt in terms of moving too fast, I thought about it though, and I feel like it was written that way because when you think back to the beginning of the story, Roman has no say in his decisions. Part of me feels like things went the way they went because this is the first time that Roman Has that freedom to choose for his own so Innoway, I feel like he does things impulsively. I also think that in his eyes, the two of them have already done the work of becoming a solid couple, so why wait?

this book confused me for some reason, I was unsure who the main character was meant to be. For some reason, I was waiting for Dacre and Enva to show up as main characters until I realized that Iris is the MC. Anyway, I stopped reading after getting 80% done, I am not a fan of war novels, but I was recommended this book.
