A nice little video with lovely, gentle humour. Thank you sir.
Blessings and peace from UK
The Grieg concerto was actually the first concerto I learned alongside Mozart n°23 (A major). Grateful to Grieg to have designed such a beautiful and powerful piece yet accessible to many piano students at a relatively easier level than all the other titans of the piano repertoire. Right now I'm working on Beethoven n°1 and Rach 2, hoping to start Brahms 1 by march or so... been a journey! Thanks a bunch ;)
Did you play them with an orchestra/accompanist or just studied them on your own?
@@brysoncheng7574 For concerts, my teacher accompanied me on a second piano! I'm hoping to play with orchestra this summer, that is, if I win the competition. It would be a first :))
Do you know where I can get easy level sheet music, just so I can hear those beautiful melodies? Especially the final movement.....
How long take you to learn de Cadenza? In my opinion it's the greatest challenge of the concert right?
@@gabrielsaavedrapina9215 Its actually pretty easy compared to some much more technical passages especially in the third movement! Its an impressive cadenza, but its mostly a lot of power chords, not hard per se.
You cracked me up with the Brahms hahahaha
I'm glad 😂😂😂 bet I caught many people off guard
Now the most difficult piano concertos
Probably Xenakis, Sorabji and Finnissy would top that list.
Of composers who would be easier on most ears, probably Bartok, Busoni, Corigliano or Alkan (if you're willing to consider his Concerto for Solo Piano as a concerto).
The first concerto I've learned when I was 13 was the Mozart 21 k467 and I think I would still recommend it as the first one to learn. It's not tremendously difficult and the melody is amazing,I really enjoy playing it!
I agree. It's also in C major, which doesn't hurt :) Wonderful piece, and if this amateur pianist can self-learn it, I'm thinking anyone who has any proficiency in piano can learn it.
I know this is an older video but ty for the recomendations. The conservatory I attend is having a concerto competiitin w our student symphony. I've already played mvt 1 of the Grieg w orchestra prior. So I might just finish that up or start Brahms 1 or Schumann
0:31 Sofia philharmonic hall, very nice
Very beautiful 🤩
Next .. 5 hardest piano concertos we cannot learn. Hahahaaha. Great vid as usual! Thanks for the ideas you freely give here! The Kabalevsky concerto is a discovery for me. 😊
Great suggestion!
Great list! I’ve played a few Mozart (not 8), the Haydn D Major, and the Mendelssohn
Nice list of concertos youve played 👌
Awesome list! Might I suggest, as approachable piano concertos, Bach (n°1 in Dm is great for the fingers), Beethoven n°1 or 2, and Mendelssohn n°2 which although less famous is I believe slightly easier than the first (not from personal experience though, haven't tried them). Some harder Mozart concertos can be awesome to work with too when trying to ramp up the difficulty, like n°9, 20, 24...
Could you make a video on suggestions for advanced, but playable concertos? It would be really interesting for students who have already studied some and are looking for a level up (something along the likes of Saint Saens, Schumann, Beethoven 3, etc)
Awesome! I wasn't very familiar with the Grieg or Haydn piano concertos. I'd better give it a listen!
Thanks so much!!
I've played Grieg's PC a lot. Most of it is not too difficult but, as you say, there are some tricky bits. Overall it's much easier than Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Rach, Prok, Brahms, etc.
You forgot to include the Prokovief PC 2, any of the Ravel PC, and the Glinkoff PC for the left pinky finger (even though the latter has some tricky vivace octave scale runs). Also, even though it's not titled as a PC, consider the Rach Paganini Rhapsody. All of these are pieces of cake that are easily approachable and you can probably sight read with your orchestra on the first try.
yes of course LMAOOO especially the prok 2
PROKOFIEV 2?!?!?!?!?
@@mariosvourliotakis hahaha i was joking
Prok 2 aka the EASIEST 👌😎😎😎
Naaa...the Glinkoff PC for the left pinky, even with the octave scales, is, hands down, the easiest... (no) pun intended...
What about Rach 3, easiest piano concerto 👍
Thanks for the video! I didn't know about Kabalevsky's or Haydn's concertos. I will check them out. I have Grieg's concerto on my list and I want to try it when I am ready. It is interesting to hear your assessment that it should be doable for someone who can perform Chopin's Ballades comfortably. I am nowhere near that yet, but I assumed that the 4th Ballade would be technically more challenging than that concerto. Maybe the concerto is still more challenging just because of the size and the added difficulty of performing with an orchestra.
There's difficulty from it being a concerto, but otherwise, technically ballade 4 is way harder.
I really should listen to mote concertos
All of us dude..
Yeah, might have to do a list of stuff everyone should listen to at some point as a pianist hahaha
Hello man,can you make the rank of difficulty of Beethoven Symphonies (Liszt)?
I can hehe
The only concerto I play (well the first two movements and not good) is Mozart k.37 in F which is a transcription from other composers sonatas movements when he was 11, only for orchestral writing purposes. I play the Reinecke arrangement for one piano. I like it a lot ! Even it's not a real Mozart concerto ...
Thanks
Sadly I have not learned any concerto yet but I cant wait to do those mentioned here someday. My favourite one of all time that I reaöly want to learn someday is the Brahms concerto no 2. I hust love Brahms incredibly much
It's time to learn one J Rohmann😌👍
@@PianoTechSupport I will probably start with the "easy" mozart concerto and work myself up from there. I am sure it is a very rewarding feeling to play a work like this
I’m 15, I’ve learned Shostakovich 2, Mozart 9 and 15, Beethoven 3 and am about to start learning Chopin 1
Why arent the Bach piano concerti here? I guess they're keyboard concerti, and some are trascriptions, but I think they could have been mentioned as an alternative. They're small, technically not very demanding, and musically they're alright, nothing crazy going on... Im currently learning N5 in F minor and its pretty easy compared to my previous experience with concerti..
You're right, it's also a nice concerto to start with, even though it's a harpsichord concerto (technically)
Shostakovich is another great one. It’s not easy by any means but it’s VERY fun.
Not a piano concerto per se, but bachs klavier concert in f minor is also a nice start i think.
Yes, I was thinking about adding it. And you're right, it's not a piano concerto per se!
I know the piece but just can't quite remember what its called! Does anyone know what the piece that starts in the background from 2:35 is?
I think it’s a hungarian rhapsody by liszt, but something like orchestral version
@@lenameyer2921 thanks
I have been practising on beethoven 1 for a while. what do you think about that concerto when compared to those mentioned in this video?
I'm predicting shostakovich no. 2
Hi, what do you think about Beethovens No. 3, i think that it is also one beautiful Piano Concerto which is still relatively easy, compared to e.g. Rachs Concertos
I think his 2nd is the easiest! I made a video ranking the Beethoven concertos, btw :)
Grieg concerto should not be listed, it may be the same level of Chopin concertos.
here are the easiest concertos below:
Mozart concertos
haydn Concerto no 11
Beethoven concertos 1 & 2,triplet concerto
Hummel concerto op 73
Kuhlau - Piano Concerto Op. 7
Grieg concerto same level as Chopin concerto ??? 🤣 Respectfully .. no!
@@PianoTechSupport Grieg and Chopin concerto are more technically difficult than the concertos I listed.
I’m learning the “Kab 3” as you say
Edit: I’ve already played Haydn 11
Kab 3 is an absolute top tier nickname haha
The Korsakov Piano Concerto could be considered “easy” too ?
I haven't played it, but ...I think so, yeah!
