I had the privilege of graduate study in jazz at NT for 7 years. While making the One O'Clock was not my major goal, nor did I make it :-), increasing my depth of knowledge in jazz, and music in general, was. I have been to many schools which focus on jazz, and have never found a school which comes even close to having the offerings found at NT. Also, the NT symphonic wind ensemble and orchestra are just as outstanding, though not as famous, as the One O'Clock Lab Band.
As a teacher who has students who have won multiple Grammys and teach at top Universities (Julliard is one), I cannot believe that there is a better place to study music in general, with or without emphasis in jazz, at either the undergraduate or graduate level, than at NT.
In a nutshell the now College of Music "cooked" when I was there in the 1980's and 1990's, and continues to do so now. . . and maybe is even better!
You want to learn music and possibly focus in jazz? Go to NT. There is no better place to forward your love of music, and better prepare you for the "rough and tumble," highly competitive world you will find as you pursue your career in music.

Band sounds like a pro band. Clean, tight, in tune, great feel and wonderful solos. Great performance!

I mean, they are basically at the level of a pro band. Some of these players are pros gone back for a degree

Certainly not the jazz of my mother's era, with which I was raised. But daring yet smooth. Miss hearing Drew on sax, but the ensemble is excellent and this sassy piece bears the unmistakable stamp of his brilliance.

I was wondering why Chris, the bass trombonist is on the end at the right rather than the left where he usually is and trumpeter Josh is on the left end , when he was usually 3rd or 4th in the line up?

Sounds like a Gordon Goodwin chart to me. I'd kill to hear them play it

@@DrewZaremba They used to describe Vic Dickenson as "the wry, sly trombone" - in Conner Eisenmenger you have his great-grandson - what a fantastic solo, tremendous pool of ideas and a man who just seems to breathe great good humour in his music making.

Judging by the reactions of the other trombones and the bari player after his solo, I would say they noticed.
