Caribou has earned its place in the Elton classic years period. It is a fun album that gets deadly serious with the last two songs.

    I dig the Batman t-shirt!
Caribou is an album with some fun songs (Dixie Lillie, Stinker), songs with dark humor (The B____ Is Back, You’re So Static), a sweet ballad like Pinky, a goofy song Solar Prestige (Elton tries his best Pavorrati) and 2 serious songs (Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me and Ticking). Ray Cooper is officially a member of the EJ Band. Dee and Davy look happy on the back cover. Nigel is wearing lots of scarves but no shirt.
Only The Piano Player is a classic. Skyline Pigeon was a hit in the Philippines. It’s one of my wife’s favorite songs. I think you’ll like that version, TJ!

Great video. I am new to your channel….for RSD, I picked up the new release “America Live at the Hollywood Bowl 1975” orchestra directed by George Martin. This previously unreleased concert was significant for me because it had all 3 of the boys playing….also George conducting…Linda McCartney was on hand as photographer. I’m a huge America fan and this was a great pickup

I really don't know what is going on with Universal. It all started with Honky Chateau 50th anniversary that was unplanned and a rushed out a year later, which apparently didn't sell as well as the previous Madman box set. Hence the plug was pulled on Don't Shoot Me 50th and limited to a RSD release. We didn't even get a Yellow Brick Road 50th, and they jumped straight to Caribou RSD which was limited to 3000 units. Many fans were complaining they missed out despite standing in line early.

No Doors or John Lennon interest? Remember the day when there was only one option for vinyl in terms of mastering (no ability to do comparisons) and no extra tracks? I miss those days. Because then the first listen was always the best and memories were built around that (at least for me). I miss my record collection - wah! Thanks TJ for sharing and Super Fan too!

“Snookeroo” was a song Elton and Bernie written for Ringo for his “Goodnight Vienna” album.
John & Yoko did a newspaper album cover with the heavy political album “Sometime In New York City” same year as Jethro Tull’s “Thick As a Brick”.

I stayed up all night outside port of sound and met some seriously awesome people, it was my first RSD. It was a treat hearing you mention the shop, but I was sad to hear your story. I didn’t know what to expect but yea by the time they opened which was an hour early the line was seriously like 300 people long. As I was typing this you mentioned Rhino records which is also my usual store since I started collecting a couple years ago. Hope to cross paths one day man. Again I’m sorry for how yesterday played out, anyone you ask always says the same thing, RSD is getting ridiculous. Even I could see what they mean. Theres a lot of greed and sorrow baked into most layers of the experience from the day the list drops to the day your shop opens

This year was my 1st RSD experience. I've known about it for years, but for various reasons, I had yet to make it to one. I did NOT know that many stores opened really esrly for this event. So, I showed up at 10 AM. I did, however, get all 3 albums I wanted. "Gandalf" s/t, & both of George Harrison's early solo releases, "Wonderwall Music" & "Electronic Sounds" .... both as zoetrope picture discs. I somehow missed seeing that Captain Beefheart's "Spotlight Kid" was being released, as well. But, I just couldn't afford it, with what I had already spent. But, overall, I came away quite pleased, & will definitely be there next time.

Good Stuff TJR struck out in the Elton but got The Faces, Thin Lizzie, Paramore for a family member & Farm Dogs a band Bernie Taupin formed in the 80’s. Interesting fact about that Chicago 7 album it was also recorded at the Caribou Ranch. The inside photo was taken there. I believe Chicago recorded 5 albums there.

You're welcome, for the "Don't Shoot Me" RSD LP. They seem more concerned with Dolby Atmos mixes now. I don't even see a new "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" box set happening. You're right, it would be strange if they do a mainstream "Caribou" 2 CD/ 2 LP set, yet didn't do a "Don't Shoot Me" one. I only got The Doors "Live In Stockholm, 1968" 2 CD set online, from a real record store. I made sure. ha! I was also wanting the split Olivia Rodrigo/ Noah Kahan "Stick Season"/ "Lacy" 45 single and the Laufey (pronounced Lay-Vay) "Live At The Symphony" 2 LP. But, I passed on both. How often would I play that single, when I can just watch the live at the BBC Live Lounge videos? And, the Laufey LP was so rare, it would've cost a fortune to buy online. So, I pre-ordered the upcoming Talking Heads "Stop Making Sense" Blu-Ray from A24 instead. Laufey is a new "discovery" this year. A female jazz vocal singer, much in the vein of Norah Jones. With maybe even a more pure voice. I'd recommend her full-length debut album first, called "Everything I Know About Love". She has piano and Flamenco style jazz songs. And you'll notice an "Elton John-like" element to the title track of that album. 😊

The Can't Buy A Thrill pressing is most likely a late 70's pressing. I had an early pressing on ABC and their original label was black with a rainbow/multi-color box around the letters ABC.

This is a lot like Black Friday which is a big pet peeve for me.
I don’t like crowds and I don’t like waiting in line, not to mention getting up early or staying out late. Mostly, the chief reason are the flippers who buy just to sell.
I like many of the releases, especially those of jazz or blues. The live Howlin Wolf and Cannonball Adderley this year were intriguing, as was the Ahmad Jamal (RIP) and Wes Montgomery late last year for RSD. The only one I have participated in was fun last year, because I found the Fleetwood Mac 12” 45 of “Albatross” and a Miles Davis live album that was actually held over from the 2022 RSD. My wife got that Elton John “…Piano Player” and she’s never opened it, or the Stevie Nicks “Belladonna” and the Dolly Parton singles compilation.
It’s not for me, but have at it , if it floats your boat.

Record store not what it used to be TJR maybe because of covid has changed things a little bit on our buying habits! Like black Friday used to be at Wal-Mart and best buy now you just buy on-line like Amazon!!! The fun days could be changing! You got some nice pick-ups on Record store day TJR! Nice presentation love that colored vinyl! Taylor Swift changing music buying experience! 19 of the top 21 songs she has on billboard 200 this week with her new album poets department rock music as we once new it has changed! Bands are things of the past! Now it is single women artist! Hope the beatles can survive this new music category called Soap opera depression pop! Taylor Swift has her own category! Like we have rock- country- punk- rap hip hop- jazz- reggae- heavy metal and so many more genre out there! SOAP OPERA DEPRESSION POP is taking over! It is like daytime TV soap operas days of our lives and so on ! Who can sit and watch that stuff without getting depressed! What artist out there will cover Taylor Swift songs probably not many ! While Yesterday has been covered over 3000 times ! And billboard 200 is a joke all you have to do hit the button on your phone 1000 times that day and whoola you got a number1 you cant compare that to the old way of getting a number1 there should be asterisk * by each billboard 200 album or single!!! Because if thats the case The Beatles would have over 200 #1s and 50 #1 albums and a billion in sales which they almost have the old fashion way! Soap opera depression pop i hope doesn't last much longer! Thanks TJR

LOL! I should have mentioned that Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons recording a psychedelic album was similar to KISS recording a concept album.
Something that makes the average person go “Wait!.....WHAT” ?

I love Kiss. I spent the evening outside port of sound before RSD waiting in line with a gentleman named Keith who worked with Kiss on and off for 20 years and we talked for like 12 hours about his stories with them on tour being the stage manager. He was a true Kiss Army Lieutenant and has the most magnificent collection I’ve ever heard of. I think he was about 60 but the cool kind of 60 where he’s more like 40 than 80, and his daughter came for him at first because he was at a concert. He was a total nerd, a 15 year old living in a grown man’s body and he was without question one of the coolest people I’ve ever met. Needless to point out his dearly departed friend Eric Carr was on his list

I'd much rather have record SHOWS that don't boast a release list for which you'll give up tour first born child. It's a lot more fun to dig through crates and just see what you see.
