  • This is truly what I consider the heart and soul of my " man cave". I have owned this receiver for 3 years now, and it has never let me down. This is the first video in a series that I'll make on my audio equipment. I thought I should start with this, considering it controls everything else. The next video will be on the Pioneer SR-202W Reverberation amplifier. If that's something you'd like, stick around!
    As always, if you have any questions, please ask them in the comments. I'll be happy to answer them all!
    Thank You for watching, and
    Please have a Wonderful Day!

    I have an SX-750 as well, love those clicky switches and fabulous quality. Let me make a couple minor corrections to your narration.
    The "Tone" switch simply turns off or on the function of the Bass and Treble adjustments.
    The Loudness switch when turned on, boosts the Bass and Treble for more natural sound when listening at lower volume levels. Our ears are less sensitive to Bass and Treble at lower volumes, ant the Loudness switch helps to compensate for that. Do a search on "fletcher munson curve" to learn more about this interesting topic. That being said, most people turn it on and leave it on all the time because it sounds cool ;-D
    Thanks for posting this video, great fun to see these old receivers getting attention :)

    Tape duplicate, that is if you want to record from one tape player then record it to another tape player. At the back of SX-750, there's two inputs for Tape: Tape 1 & Tape 2, I also have a SX-750 as my main system and two vintage tape deck s for playback and recording!

    My garage set up for 20 years was an SX-650, bought at a garage sale for $25, and a pair of hpm-700's. The neighbors were aware. Good looking 750 you have there.

    My Dad gave me this unit, same 1 when I was a little kid. It's servived alot of abuse, late 70s, 80s, my high school yrs (late 90s). It's sat for 20s yrs, I just recently plug it in and fired it up. Sadly the pioneer speakers didn't survive. Kool man!

      JM Walker Happy memories for you!
      You are lucky to be gifted with this Receiver at such a young age! Generally Pioneer speakers are good although not to the same standards as some of European or American speakers. I know because I used them. What's the model number of your Pioneer speakers which didn't survive?
      Sorry about the late comment.

    I am sure someone has answered this, but if not... The Duplicate switch on the Pioneer SX-750 allows you to record or copy from two connected tape decks simultaneously.

    Great video! I just found this vid and I enjoyed it. I'm in complete agreement with you about going vintage. Not only appearance and robust build, but they're much easier to service. This is one nice receiver you have. I'm much more partial to Sansui myself, but I've worked on vintage Pioneer amplifiers just like these. I have a fully-restored Sansui G-7000 and it's also the heart and soul of my audiophile setup. You should spin some more vinyl on your channel! Get people groovin' with some spinnin'. :) Thanks for making this video!

    You should take the bottom off and see if your power capacitors are leaking. One of mine was. They are easy to replace. You will see the electrolytic residue on the bottom pan when you remove it.

      Most had miner issues ,But i did'nt mind because I knew that I was gonna Fully restore each one of them , I restored the sta--95-sta-2100-sta-2100D-Sta-2300 , I also have the sta-2270 whos hasn't been restored yet , Which really surprised me also .I bought the 2270 to resell it , But to my surprise , the sound is really good , And the power it has for 65 watts really surprised me also , I think i'm gonna keep it ,, it's a 9.2 out of 10 Esthetically ,All my sta's are 8.5+ esthetically also . As you say , event to get the hands on one is a luck , Beleive it or not , I bought them from the same person , He was my Vintage tech .He collects Realistic stuff.. And guest what??!! . He still has a 2100 that he wants to keep . I'm pulling his ears to get the last one ..As he said . Since i have the 120 watts Realistics , And that he knows that they are in tbe best hands for them to live for another 40-50 years , Because i restore them , And that i would never sell them to someone who's not a Real Fan of Realistic ..

    I have the sx750. After 20 years of non-use, I powered it up. Some toggle switches are bad and needs replacement. Sometimes the sound cuts out by itself. When I toggle them, the sound reappears. I tried spraying contact cleaner but it doesn’t seem to work. Anybody know where I can get new switches?

    • @electronicengineer
      @electronicengineer 4 года назад +2

      There is an Ebayer - "joeoldaudio" who sells used receiver parts on Ebay. He might have the switches/controls you need and his prices seem fair, considering you can't buy these parts new anymore. I would look up his Ebay store and you might find them. Good luck!

    • @dustmaker1000
      @dustmaker1000 3 года назад +4

      I know your comment is 9 months old, but the issue you have is most likely that you did not clean the toggles well enough. They don’t just go bad by not being used. They can be difficult to clean which may require you to remove the face plate and move the flat amp and tone amp boards where you can better spray the Deoxit into them. Work them vigorously for a minute or more. I will sometimes just let them sit for 10 min, spay again and work them again. Clean up excess and let dry before plugging in.

    • @paididoy
      @paididoy 3 года назад +3

      If there's still sound when you toggled them then it still good. You need to do a thorough good cleaning, use Deoxit to spray clean the tiny holes on those pots and sliding/toggle switches then manipulate back & forth, left to right , up & down for so many times. I always do it every time I purchase vintage receiver advertised as "parts & non-working" before I start any repairs.
