Check out part 2 featuring the power washer: • Power Washing My Pione...
I've done it again, folks. I've purchased the worst PIONEER receiver on eBay! I bought this unit advertised as untested so I really had no idea what I was getting myself into. Наука
I'm always amazed at people's ability to sell something to somebody without even making the effort to wipe it down with a paper towel. Nice pickup - looking forward to seeing you go through it.
Sometimes I don’t have paper to clean my ass…
I recently purchased a JVC receiver in the same condition. I could never.
Imo these Pioneer 50 and 80 series of receivers are some of the most beautiful in the world, I just absolutely adore the look of them and I can't wait to see this one returned to it's former glory, I'd kill to have one someday.
Its*
the rug really ties the room together,.,.
Great basic diagnostic video for unknown receiver. I personally would have hit the controls with some contact cleaner BEFORE I started testing, no sense wasting time diagnosing a bad channel when it's just dirty controls!
0:10 The best part is that Dollar Tree box and your cat knows it. Haha! If anyone can fix that Pioneer, you certainly can. I have confidence in you. :)
SX-750 is one of my favs. When working properly they have a nice warm sound and plenty of power. Start with a good cleaning and spray the switches and knobs. they sell recap kits for this model. Well worth the work in my opinion.
You're telling this guy how to go about restoring a receiver? lol
Yeah, as said, looks like a good candidate for a power wash !! LOL :)
Yes! Carwash!!
Agreed
I wouldn't have touched it without latex gloves , then clean and sanitize
As vintage receivers go, this SX-750 ain't half bad. Healthy power, bidirectional dubbing, nice looks (when clean) and good specs. Just never liked the power and speakers on the same switch like the SX-650, 550 and 450. It does have a muting circuit for speaker protection. An old friend had this SX-750 driving EPI-200B speakers and sound was impressive. Hats off to you for this project, I ain't got the patience (or knowledge) to tackle this.
I don't like power/speaker switch combo either. What a dumb design.
That hum is a power supply hum (filter caps probably), not a ground hum.
The center vertical PCB has four (4) low voltage, differential power rail electrolytic capacitors that are dried up. I had the same exact issue with my Pioneer SX-750, except the AC hum on my unit was much worse. The ESR of the electrolytic capacitors was through the roof. The large, high voltage, electrolytic capacitors are usually fine, btw. Fred
Clean and inspect. 1st step. Will not come in the house without getting dust blown out and the exterior dissinfected. Lysol wipes work great to cut smoke and grease. Then switches sprayed by default. Then power on. I spay each board induvidually with electronics cleaner and scrub with various brushes and collect residue with cotton swabs and micro cloths.
I do a similar routine with any vintage gear I restore. Don’t understand bringing a filthy unit with 40 years of dirt and debris into the house.
This was an awesome video and you make it easy to understand. I would love to see a video of you repairing this stereo and making it all purty again. ✌🏻😁 That's great it's already in somewhat good shape too. Wish I knew how to repair stereos; I could buy ones in poor shape and flip em.
Always enjoy your detective work! And your fixin routes!
I've bought a few "dead" units at garage sales and such...compressed air lightly for dust...then 40 turns on each switch and finally deoxit. Turn on and wait for smoke. Then tuner to see if it locks stereo. And finally speakers...speakers that I won't miss if they pop. If all goes well it's a wash and picture time...
When you finish fixing it up, test the amp with a little Bachman Turner Overdrive. I bet that unit played the hell out of "Takin Care of Business" when it was new.
Then play "Blue Collar "
@@gioscervelo Hilarious. Blue Collar is one of the most schizophrenic songs I've ever heard. And I like BTO a lot (it's not that big of a club).
Apparently, he liked your suggestion!
Love the Sadie shake on the tripod. You do get yourself into some unique projects
Too the car wash we go.......
Check the fuse.
As Rob Schneider once said, "You can do it!"
My dad had one, worked for 30 years plus. Sold because didn’t use no more.
Looks like an interesting and worthy project. I own a Pioneer SX950 and just love it!!!! Greetings.
Looks like it was in a room where a mass murder occurred.
spectacular content AH-Fix-It. I broke the thumbs up on your video. Keep on up the superior work.
My brother bought one of those brand new back in the day... LOTS OF POWER!! At less than half volume it would knock pictures of the wall of our old stone farm house. I have a "90 watt" Yamaha av receiver and its not even close at 3/4 volume to the old pioneer. Junk.
That said I had a little Sansui 30 watt that amazed most with how clear and loud it was. I dont remember what model it was but from the early 80s and black.
On the power supply board, C17 & C18, (330uf 50v), will be tired. There's close to 50v running through them and their proximity to the hot transistors really wears them out. Upgrade to at least 63v and 105°c replacements. 👍
I inherited an SX-1250 in a lot worse shape. I'm hoping to make it sing again and look new.
I love old classic jazz as back ground music. It's very relaxing.
Cool, You gave me hope about an SX-1250 I have that was in a barn. Sad shape but maybe I'll also get it to live again
Add a turntable, sprinkle sand on the vinyl, get some radio shack speakers, HIGH FIDELITY. Hee hee hee ha ha.
Hi, what aux cable do u use for testing sound from your iPhone? Thx, can’t wait to see this one.
When I was a kid, I had a pioneer SA 7500. I wish I had not let that amp get away from me. May one of these I’ll buy one off of eBay just for old time sake.
That is incredible bass sound coming from my headphones from that Pioneer SX-750 receiver.
My SX 750 was stolen in the fall of 1979. Maybe this is it!
Off to the carwash!
can processor chips be found for the pioneer sx 3900 recievers!
I had one back in the day. It was OK for the time. I know this one wasn't mine because I stripped it down for parts!! Great video!
I wish I still had mine. My apartment was broken into and along with the 750 went my DLK speakers my turntable, cass deck, equalizer and CD player. Oh, lest I forget, about 1200 dollars in CDs. Not what one expects to return home from work to discover.
Before that fateful day, I had moved more than a few times even out of state and my system came through it all, never giving me one moment of grief. A true workhorse that could rival Gabriel's trumpet.
I opened an ebay box from a seller, it had sticky syrup inside and as an added bonus…..cockroaches. Now every package I receive is opened outside and left to sit through one freezing winter before being cleaned OUTSIDE. After that I will bring it inside .
Is the fix video out yet? Can't wait. Lol. Love this stuff
I got one of those from my uncle & man that thing was so fookin loud. I used it in the early 00's & it still slammed but had crackling issues w the pots sounding a lot like the one you hooked up. One night I was listening to something low & quiet when I swear I heard a thunderbolt right next to me which scared my dog so bad she jumped, yelped & shit all at the same time. The noise came from the Pioneer and it stopped working right then. There was no smoke. I cleaned up the shit.
Not a bad day it works just needs work and some love, enjoy your show
That is defiantly 120 Hertz power supply hum. More likely the smaller capacitors for the preamp power supply. For some reason they only put 85c rated caps in those positions typically and are prone to fail. Yes, please diagnose this one. You got my curiosity peaked now.
in the food industry we use lemon oil to polish stainless steel! test first ..to ensure the safety of the silk screened...letters good videos! thanks....
After recap no more hum. Great find
Geez, you could plant potatoes in there!
Dude! Very interesting! I'm hooked.... Cheers!
I bought a psares and repairs 1979 kenwood 3010 it looked a mess after cleaning it and new front glass cut from a picture frame glass and some wood effect vinyl it looks really good .
What,s the other stereo amplifier sitting on it,s side to the left of the bench?
i have sx-5560 the european equivalent of 750 but black , the power module full of intrerupted or dry capacitors !! Keep the good job !
can repair parts be found for the pioneer sx 3700 3800 and 3900 recievers? thanks....great videos!
I found a clesner working model of this baby for 10$ at the thrift it sounds amazing the 737 or 747
New subscriber sir from the philippines..thanks for sharing..
I had a Pioneer receiver/amp that I thought was dead. I just took the cover off and cleaned the crud. She fired right back up. I assumed some of the crud was actually changing the resistance between componenents. Who knows I still use it.
thanks always watching your nice videos....from indonesia
Hey! I had one of them! It served me well.
Will you sell it when it’s up and running?
Time to try some Nevr-Dull on the aluminum areas that don't have writing ...
Looks like it was left uncovered in a garage or attic for a decade or so. Lots of cleanup, but you might have a little treasure when you are done. And no downside. Have fun.
Time to get out the pressure washer
Everyone's favorite song. Nice
I'd love to see this one fixed!!!
Viel Spass mit dem Teil.
you know the L is silent in folks, right?
perhaps he is exaggerating the L sound for effect,.,.,.buuuut lets not engage or provoke the L word? ,.,.,.words and sounds together. (maybe he is from NJ),.,.idk they have high taxes there,.,
Haha I was thinking the same thing. I guess it's his channel he can say however he wants. I still enjoy the content no matter how he says folks.....
@@johnglover8419 he just might be toyin' with us,.,we will never know,.lol
What do think of G.R. Research ?
Don't know what you paid for it but probably got it at a great price. I think you're ahead of the game seeing that all the knobs and switches are there. All it needs is a really good cleaning, and as far as the cabinet goes, I would just make a new one.. I'm sure that after you go through it, it'll be a great receiver.
He paid $1289.00 for it. Trust me, I track this nonsense for a living.
@@NeverTalkToCops1 Wow...seems high?
I owned the same model many years ago. It worked great until it warmed up. Then it would produce a thunderstorm of crackels and the protection relay would throw bright sparks
Carwash! Carwash! Carwash! :D
Liked, looks like it was stored in a very dirty place, nice receiver really
I got one for 10 dollars. Works!
Yellow metal = cigerettes that 750 uses Sanyo chip output stages that can be upgraded to a PNP NPN transistor s in a kit form
Я просто тащусь от дизайна 70-х !
What's the cats name, he's hard to see when on the rug .
It is thinking: that is going to be my box soon.
Love old audio gear
Very old models make sound like old people . But it can be restored if damaged parts available in the market . I'm also a hobbits from India, Kolkata . All the best .
Is that blood smear on the face plate?
redrum...redrum!!!!
what kind of swine had this before i would never buy it in that condition the previous owner should of at least wipe it clean for decency.
My Advent Loud speakers whould sound outstanding!! Along with my Bose speakers!!!
I have that same model and the same strip came off of the top LOL
Same here. I guess the worker in charge of that strip was morally opposed to using enough glue.
Exelente aparelho tenho o sx 680 gosto muito 👏👏👏
Yes.
they sure the hell didn't pack it very well where ever you board from that packing job is terrible I would have sent it back just the way it looked coming from the box and I do the same thing you do I buy them when they not working and I put them back together and make them work properly I go through them from top to bottom and replace everything that needs to be replaced and I make them work like they were new and then they moved them on to a proper home
Just bought one myself a week ago, also heard it was made in 1976 the year I was born is it true!?
You're not sure when you were borned?
Saludos desde Perú. Te admiro.
Eu queria comprar um dessa geração, mas tenho medo de ser taxado aqui na alfândega brasileira , e ficar muito caro , mas aprecio seu vídeo, grato, obrigado.
Looks like it's from the 70s.
It is indeed a filthy beast. I am looking forward to you vanquishing the demon, that is spewing this unrighteousness hum upon your bench. The power of Deoxit will compel it!
thatz funeee
My dad had the exact reciever
Off to the carwash, eh?
these units take forver to do.
another project :)
Счастье пришло, но в ужасном состоянии.
is this gonna go to the car wash?
first of all the person that owned it was a smoker they also might have had it bug infestation or the person that handled it I had very greasy fingers maybe this was inside of a restaurant one of those greasy-spoon places where they were cooking Burgers all the time and it was all kinds of goop on the guy's hands that were operating it that's why the front looks so bad I don't know it really looks like somebody had greasy hands or operating it all the time what was found in the garbage dump
Records stored flat.....
Maggie's and cat 😸😸
What are you...a glutton for punishment?
Хубава машина наистина а откъде сте?
Состояние ужасное....
Power wash it
Great 👍 Sound sucks
