- “Dawning” is a fresh start, a new beginning where Kamalini Mukherji, a leading practitioner of Rabindranath Tagore’s songs (Rabindra Sangeet), and Mayookh Bhaumik, an Indian National Award-winning music director, collaborate for the first time to present seven of Tagore’s songs in a unique soundscape that brings a new perspective to these masterpieces.
“Chhaya Ghonaichhe” (“Shadows thicken…”) is one of the offerings. Amir Mondal has cinematically interpreted this song and Subha Mukherji has translated the song from the original.

ছায়া ঘনাইছে বনে বনে, গগনে গগনে ডাকে দেয়া।
কবে নবঘন-বরিষনে গোপনে গোপনে এলি কেয়া ॥
পুরবে নীরব ইশারাতে একদা নিদ্রাহীন রাতে
হাওয়াতে কী পথে দিলি খেয়া--
আষাঢ়ের খেয়ালের কোন্ খেয়া ॥
যে মধু হৃদয়ে ছিল মাখা কাঁটাতে কী ভয়ে দিলি ঢাকা।
বুঝি এলি যার অভিসারে মনে মনে দেখা হল তারে,
আড়ালে আড়ালে দেয়া-নেয়া--
আপনায় লুকায়ে দেয়া-নেয়া ॥
Translation
Shadows thicken through the woods; clouds rumble in the skies.
When, in the midst of the fresh, lush downpours, did you steal in, oh ‘keya’?
Once on a sleepless night, by a silent signal in the East,
what path did you set sail on, on what boat driven by the whimsy of the monsoon gale?
What fear has prompted you to cover in thorns the nectar that suffused the heart?
It’s as if you have met in the mind the one who came seeking; in a secret exchange, your own self in hiding.
