@@KevtechITSupport I was offered a position. Many thanks!! If I could tell anyone who wanted to get into the IT industry I would point them to your videos as well as Job skill share.
I can't speak for all IT hiring managers, but I can tell you for us, when we ask Tell Me About Yourself, we are most definitely looking for some personal background on you. Your work experience we will get to for sure, plus we have your resume, so we get an idea of what you did from that. Thats why you're in the room. Most of the time, that question leans more towards checking your culture fit with the team. YOU are not your occupation. We want to hear how you got to the seat you're in today, what did you overcome to get there? what is important to you outside of working everyday of your life? What values are important to you? What drives you to get out of bed every morning? Who Are You? What makes you unique?
I'm gonna make a joke by starting off saying "Well you see, it all goes back to when I was in kindergarten....", as if I'm about to tell them my whole life story, but then I'll say "just kidding" & go into my actual speech

Not criticizing, cause I love your content and it matches what I have seen and am seeing in the industry in the past 10 years, but it is noticeable that you tend to use the word "basically" too often. This gets the attention of recruiters for some weird reason. Kudos for going over why you are leaving the old job and reasoning your desire to take on the new position. Something that so many candidates forget to do
I agree with this statement, being hispanic americans i've noticed we tend to use the word basically a lot to describe things, my English professor pounded it out of me and during presentations lol He was a real nut case on extending our vocabulary.
You've never met my friend Joel Lado. He has found a way to use "Basically" as a response for nearly any possible response or emotion expressed in existence. No matter what the topic or question, he replies, "Basically". It's his favorite word & a one-size fits all for him. At least most people just use it slightly in excess like Kev, and not like my friend.
Thanks for bring up this topic and making a video about it ,but don’t you think that tell me about yourself shouldn’t be longer than 3 mins and summary of your qualifications and some experience. Idk
It really depends on you. I spoke literally for over 5 mins on a job interview at my last job and they liked me. Like I said, it really depends on the company. Maybe shorten it if it's too long but you get the idea.
Sir i just want to ask. I did my "on the job training" as a desktop support engineer and i did lots of tasks back there. But you said a lot of things i am not familiar with. If you rate the job difficulty how do you rate it. From 1-10. And do your company back then give you an overview or teach you how to do things or just start right away?
The job difficulty depends on the company, every company is different. The same goes with training. If your brand new entry level than they will train you.
I kinda feel like you talk way too fast / too much in this video and kinda repeat the same thing over and over. Slow it down a bit and talk about yourself as well, you only mentioned your working experience
They don't want to hear about yourself. They want to hear about your work experience. That's the point of tell me about yourself. We talk about tech related stuff and how your a good fit for the role. You can also slow down the video using RUclips setting slow mode.
@@KevtechITSupport I disagree. The recruiter would be interested in you showing that you understand the concepts, but really not interested in how you add someone to a security group or how you unlock an account. Social skills are more important than tech skills, cauz that someone can teach you
Tell me about yourself is where you talk about your lab experience and why your the perfect candidate for the role. Of course you need people skills. I never said that's not important but you need to show them that your familiar with the technology as well. That's why we do home labs. Job recruiter is different from a hiring manager.
Hi Kev,I have 2 question which is from active directory. 1.How do we take a call with a user who forgot domain password and unable to login to account while working from home!!pls note he wont come to office. 2.what do we do if a user moved out of domain while working from home! Thanks.
I answered this question in another video. You would reset the password but first confirm that it's him and reset it. Company laptops use vpn but also depends how the company is set up. 2nd question you would login to vpn on the laptop, remove the pc from the domain and add it back by connecting as a local user account.
@@KevtechITSupport ohh wow that's super quick,...but as it is part of domain, and not syncing with Directory or controller, would it be effective if we reset password!,user unable to login and connect to VPN either.
@@joyaljosephvj2291 if vpn set up on the pc than they would just use the new password you reset it too for the login for vpn to work. Than they can change on their own. That's how it works in an IT environment. Doesn't need to talk to the domain controller to reset the password if the vpn set up correctly.
The beginning of the video is important to someone brand new to IT because they think tell me about myself means to talk about their personal life. Skip to the part of the video where I answer the question 2:08 . If I talk about something it's for a reason not because I'm rambling.
