Great race for you! Congrats on a strong race! Enjoyed how you kept it real and told us what you were experiencing. Also liked the maps - I need to figure out how to do that!
Thank you! I'm glad you liked this video. The animated maps really help to illustrate the location, route, and terrain. I use Google Earth Studio for those animations (plus After Effects). You can convert your watch's GPX file to KML and then overlay the route on the 3D map in Google Earth Studio. It is pretty complicated, but I have fun using it and the results are often worth the effort.
Great run! Really enjoyed the film Wes, nice work.
I’m so glad you liked it Jeff! Thanks for watching.
Thank you Wes for all your videos. They are inspiring, just as you are. Keep on the nice work! Congratulation.
Thanks for watching Alexandre! I appreciate your kind comment. Thank you!
What a great race for you, sub 24. This video is one of the best I have watched for this race. I don’t know if was the filming angles or the commentary or the music but you really captured the beauty of the desert and the solitude and ups and downs of ultra trail running. It was easy to see the differences in the uphill side versus the downhill side and appreciate the changes in the trail. Great job!
Thanks Sue! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. I hope future Javelina runners find it helpful as they plan their race.
@@wplate I finished JJ this weekend and this video did help me strategize. Thanks for sharing!
@@joshleisen8756 I am so happy to hear that! Congrats on your finish! 🙌🏼
@@wplate Thank you! I took some pics but no video, so your vid has also been nice to share with family and non-runner friends to show a bit of what the course was like.
Awesome to see you racing again, my friend. Love your commentary and the opportunity to "be there" with you!
Dude! I'm so happy this found its way to you and you enjoyed it. Miss you old friend!
The music gives your vids a special vibe. Well done!
Thanks Kelly! Glad you like. 👍🏼
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing! Good job! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thanks for watching. :)
Excellent job and time! That race will be my first 100, hopefully in 2023.
I hope to be at JJ2023 crewing. Good luck to you with your training. See you there.
@Wes Plate thank you. I'm actually researching a training plan with no luck yet. 1st 50 miler AR50 in April, Canyons 50K end of April and JJ 100 on the calendar so far. Can you recommend a training plan for me? I'm 49 and running about 50 miles a week at the moment
@@GSPEEDCHASSIS I’m a big proponent of using a coach, and I would recommend it to you too! Mine: foothillsendurance.com/
@@wplateawesome, thank you
@@wplate email request sent to her. Maybe put in a good word for me!😃
Well done dude, fantastic run! Under 24h finish too, damn.
Thanks David. It helped to take it smart and easy in the hot loop.
This was so cool to see what each loop experience
Thank you for watching Penny!
Recently found your channel ~u r Beastie …. Great channel .
Jeff from Ohio
Welcome to the channel Jeff! Thanks for watching.
Thanks for posting. Considering this race for 2021
I hope you do it! Be prepared for the heat! :)
Great video. Thanks for sharing your race. Nice job..
Thank you for watching!
Great video, Wes. Thanks for sharing. I’m in for 2021. Looks like you recommend the tent/campsite set-up. I also enjoy your Mountain Lakes 100 video. I learned a lot from my ML100 2019.
The Javelina tent rental worked well for us. I also loved having access to it between loops.
Way to go wes! What a bad ass video also. Really enjoyed this!
Thank you!
aaaa beautiful, man! 👍🏻💪🏻 congratulations!
Thank you!
Well done, love the format. 🤘
Thank you for watching Russell! I'm so glad you liked it.
Looks like a stage race out there. That has to be the biggest setup in (normal) ultras.
So many tents, right?! The weird thing is that in my time there I saw very few people using the tents, we were all so spread out across time. I'm assuming it was busier later in the weekend after I was done and had gone home.
Great work, very strong push 💪🏻
Thanks Mike. In the last loop I wanted to go a little faster in the first half of the loop, but I was so tired.
Good job, Wes
Glad you enjoyed it Aaron. Thank you!
hell yea, sub 24! nice!
Thank you David!
Do you get the belt buckle for comppetion or only under 24 hours?
All finishers get a buckle, but there is a different buckle for sub 24 hour finishers.
Great video again, always very inspiring! What stick/handle are you using for your GoPro? Thanks mate
Thanks! I'm glad you liked this. During this race I used GoPro's Shorty - Mini Extension Pole & Tripod amzn.to/2Jqy60y
Thanks for the feedback, Wes! I bought one and used it during a running event over the weekend. Handy little device and easy to put away during the run. Would you mind sharing what basic video settings you use on the GoPro? I have the Hero 9 but I can't seem to get that quality footage I want, for sure not the same you have. Might be my filming :-). Looking forward to your next movie. Cheers from New Zealand!
@@danielmodderman3229 I'm not a GoPro settings expert. I believe this video was shot 4K, 30fps, Linear Lens, Hypersmooth High. I don't believe I changed the "ProTune" settings from their default.

That was a fun day. Except when it wasn’t. I love Arizona.
dude thank you so much for filming this! I plan on doing it next year! any tips for training?
For this race the heat is the thing to be aware of and have a plan for. The course is very runnable, which is both good and bad in a 100. The overall elevation gain is small compared to other races, which means you can spend more time running if you're ready for it.
