  • Probably not as clever as you might hope! But there's a ticky box in Autodesk Inventor that does something which isn't obvious, so I'm showing you what it does!

this technique has opened a new door of parametric modeling strategies for me!

Hi TFI, fantastic videos, please keep em coming. My primary workflow is multibody parts (I am a cabinet maker and use Inventor with the 'Woodwork for Inventor' add on which makes Inventor a bit more user friendly for woodworkers, and enables us to produce a full cutting list directly from the model). The pattern method you describe here works on a single part, but if I try and pattern a part as a new solid, the adjust button is greyed out and you are stuck with a pattern that is identical to the original part. Is this something you are aware of? I tend to pattern things in the top level assembly for the sake of the cutting list... if I pattern parts in the multybody model before creating the assembly with the make components command, I will end up with, say, five cutting list items for identical parts, shelves for example. If I pattern the shelves in the top level assembly, my cutting list will read 5no shelves and won't show multiple entries of the same size component. Cheers

It's always the "hidden" things in Inventor that make the difference.
Too bad we don't know all the "hidden" things that the program can do.
