- In the build up to receiving the Fujifilm X100V I found a lot of content regarding why people didn't like the X100V.
As a camera that has been insanely popular and very hard to buy for nearly its entire life I can only assume this content was created because it was trendy to do so, for clickbait...or because maybe they were right.

Great video - thoughtful, intelligent and articulate as always. And what beautiful images too. Thanks for sharing mate
Thank you!
This will be my first X100 series camera and I'm excited. I have an A7RIV and the 40mm (as well as a couple of other stellar lenses). It's an awesome camera and lens combo but not something that I want to carry around with me everywhere I go. I can definitely see myself doing that with the new X100VI.
It’s a perfect little project camera, doesn’t require you to fully change systems, doesn’t have to be used on jobs etc just use it when life happens, when you want to take photos just for you kinda situation
This is definitely the right way to approach the x100 series. It's so great as a companion to a pro interchangeable lens system.
Thanks for sharing your interesting thoughts
As a release-day (hobbyist) owner of the X100V and as someone who doesn’t use much social media, I’ve become aware of the X100V as "overhyped and underused by a tiktok generation that only want instant gratification…” only from other people on YT and photo sites I visit. I was drafting my own thoughts about this interesting phenomenon while I came across your video on a Fujifilm blog. While your video title seemed a little clickbaity, it was just what I was wondering at that moment. I came for the clickbait and, to my surprise, stayed for your fantastically well written thoughtful perspective. Great images, recipes, and music choice too. Bravo!
Thank you!
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography The whole video comes across as a butthurt photographer upset that the X100 brings hobbyists a little bit closer to his own level of skill. Okay, "people are going to buy this camera and not use it to its full potential." So what? How many Ferrari and Lambo owners use their cars to their full potential? Should Ferrari and Lambo turn their customers away or only sell to professional drivers? What's the point of this video? It sounds like a bunch of gatekeeping nonsense. Sad.
I agree. Shoot with prime lenses! Also, experiment with X100 series, old film camera's, cameras with interchangeable lenses, adapt old vintage lenses on digital cameras etc... You will love it!
Agree. But I'm still shooting XT3. And I will until that camera dies in my hand. Then maybe I'll take a look at this X100VI everyone's talking about :)
I can relate. I picked up a like new X-T2 over a year ago, was blown away how much I love this camera. The feel, button configuration, flip down screen, and EVF are great. I'm easy to please though!
You’ll wait a long time then :) my x100 is still working amazingly after 13 years..
Thanks for sharing.
Interesting essay and wonderful photos.
I should listen to my wife more. She keeps telling me the simpler the kit, the better my photos. Some of my best photographs were taken with a Leica M3 with a 50mm Summicron. Some of my best photos have been taken with a Fuji X-E3 with either a 23mm or a 35mm lens as the only lens I used on a photo outing.
Some of the best photographers, are not editors. The Fuji X100 allows for that kind of photographer.
Yes they destroy their photos in editing
@@jan-martinulvag1953 Agreed. If someone has too heavy a hand in Lightroom or flat out doesn’t know what they’re doing, particularly with color correction… 9 times out of 10 they’re better sticking with the JPEG the camera made them.
There’s this emphasis on “oh you gotta shoot raw”… Jared Polin being the usual broken record. It’s utter hogwash. I shoot RAW because maybe 5-10% of the time I want the negative to push it farther, but 90% of the photos I love are JPEGs straight out of the camera and Apple Photos was enough to make minimal corrections. When I need Lightroom, I probably did something wrong when I took the photo or I’m bracketing exposure.
Nice video! I started photography with a Canon A-1 SLR and just one lens, a 50mm f3.5 Macro. Shooting with a single focal length is wonderful and I welcome the creativity and thought it engenders. Zoom with the feet as we used to say. :-P
Thank you!
I sold after a few years my nice V....just because it felt a little bit slow (for my kids) and I bought myself into XH2. Now I am confident enough to rebuy the x100 in the 6th version and knowing that it has fixed the only issue I had with it :) And the 40MP are a nice bonus to me. :)
So glad to see you are back!!!! Excellent video!
I've had the X-100, X-100s, X-100v and now the x-100vi. The only thing I dislike about the new vi is the custom settings. They have been perfect for the last 5 version of the X-100 and now they are changed to be like the PSAM cameras. Mods to custom settings are now either permanent and constantly shifting the custom settings, or get lost when the camera powers itself off (or you turn it off). The prior 5 versions of the X-100 kept mods to the current custom settings until you switched to a new custom setting, including through a power off. That was a much better design. I don't want any settings to change when the camera is turned on/off and I also don't want to permanently overwrite my known settings with random temporary mods.
It has digital crop and that is very useful and good
Preach I said the same thing, the true feeling you got with x100v the art of photography . I have the v an love it but was never going to get a upgrade too new one , now it's just a camera an not the true feeling you should get....
🔥🔥🔥
Nothing wrong with wanting a camera only because everyone else wants it also. 😅
Great photos tb and introspection. Won't be picking this up as I'm left eye dominant so the camera will cover my face!
In truth, I have two Fuji's (X-T2 / X-E3) and if I upgrade/pare-down the X-T5 should be the first body I pickup, so the lenses I have can benefit from OIS/40mp. Right now, I can run out of the house, slap a single lens on the X-T2, maybe the XF16 1.4, Tamron 18-300 or even just a manual prime like the brilliant Samyang 135mm F2. I might throw my 35mm F2 in a side pocket just in case.
No matter what the configuration, embrace each camera as is; it's unique strengths and weaknesses bringing character.
Love your comment, thank you
NGL, you got me in first half
It's a tempting camera - by am I being tempted for the wrong reasons? As a straightforward travel camera without the looks/hype I think the XS20 is a great looking unit which would probably suit me better.
Xs20 is a fantastic camera, hard to argue with that
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography I currently have a Z30 currently fitted with a 24mm f/1.7 Lens which I use as a travel camera - it produces nice images but the lack of an EVF can be an issue in bright sunshine. Can't fault the focusing on it though.
Will definitely look at an XS20 in a camera shop to see how it feels in the hand - battery life is supposed to be excellent.
I bought the X-S20 for those reasons. Before my travel camera was the X-E3, but I wanted the small size of the X-E3 combined with the video and IBIS features of my H1. I've found the S20 a great melding of the two. That's not to say that the X-100 isn't tempting.
Great review! You are really calling out points that others do not mention. Lets see if the VI will also reach the limits of availability.
I personally prefer a X-Pro or X-T. If I want to use only one lens …. Well, up to me, no? But I have the possibility to use „different only one lens“ for a while.
If you do not use flash the leaf shutter can be replaced by the electronical, and with 32.000s I never missed a an ND. Just my opinion. I don’t see myself buying one, but GAS is a dangerous sickness …. 😇
All I care about is having a camera I can take anywhere. And that is fun to use, doesn’t suck and looks cool. I have other cameras for my work. This is just my always with me camera. It doesn’t have to fit anyone else’s mold or expectations. Just mine. ✌️
Ohhhhh nice comment, I like it
Bro speaking facts, no printer.
Had the T and the V. Prefer my GFX100S for stills, X-H2s for video & GSW690III for the 120 goodness 👍
100S is a gorgeous camera, but generally too large compared to an X100.
@@MikeLikesChannel depends on the use though. *Personally* in all scenarios I’d be using an X100 myself - the GFX will be just fine. Not saying the same will apply to everyone.
there's more to life than pulling sliders in lightroom
Which scratch easier silver or black ?
From my experience both are very resilient and not something I would worry about.
BUT I haven’t tested both for that.
I don't know if these are more resilient than the older models but my silver x100s is beat to hell and I think it looks awesome.
I am buying this camera and you are not going to stop me. Even though everything you said in this video is true, but I still want ti.
Hahaha maybe that was my plan all along.
Hope you truely love it
For the video capabilities yes
I would like to know if it has the same overheat issues like the x100v
@@Spamn4 Matt Granger did a test and had no issues whatsoever.
@@Spamn4 I've seen several testers say the VI is much better, ie Gordon Laing IIRC said he could record for well over an hour at 4K with no overheating.
I know this camera isn't for me and I ain't gonna hate on it. It's not that bad, the cult around this camera.
Leicas on the other hand, I will hate on lol. People pretend it some kind of a special camera that everyone loves and if you don't like it "you just don't get it". Especially when they cost so much.
"Especially when they cost so much." Tesla, Land Rover and Ferrari have the same cult. Overpriced junk bought be rich people to impress others -- not themselves. Tell them the truth and they respond with, "Yeah? Well, ugh, you're just, like, jealous and don't get it." 🙄
@@MisterMonsieurJust because you don’t like it doesn’t mean those are “junk”. A Leica ist “junk”. The people that pretend it is the ultimate tool and everyone that doesn’t like it “doesn’t get it” are junk. A Leica has its place, just like the VWs, Teslas, Range Rovers, iPhones and Samsungs in this world.
Get what you like and use it to its fullest.
I started shooting with Leicas in 1968. I've had my current M3 for nearly 40 years. The premium for Leicas made some sense in the film days, but makes no sense in the digital era. The other response Leicaphiles use is that the Summicron and Summilux are superior quality. The good news is that there are other lenses, including Fuji lenses that are as good if not better.
Fuji cameras, especially X-E and X-Pro cameras are what Leica digital should be.
I feel heppy!
Wow, this is such gatekeeping shit. I’ve been using x-trans since 2012 and this is not a camera for casual users. And even if people leave it on film sim/jpeg, who cares. Detailed manipulation of RAW isn’t a superior version of photography.
Wow, everything you said there inspires mediocrity and skill stagnation, not growth, skill development and creative expression, talk about ignorance.
@@ewrzosek Nah, it's definitely some gatekeeping nonsense!
Only took 6 months to post…
lol why do ppl get mad bc ppl buy cameras as a “fashion statement” Cameras are designed by designers to be aesthetically appealing (except nikon/canons/sony (except nikonzf) but why do you care so much about why ppl buy hahaha. get a camera you want use it, then mind your business maybe
Can you help me please to take a side? I'm in doubt between Sony A7CR with Sony Zeiss 55mm 1.8 lens (found for 450 euro) and in the future 24mm 1.4 or should I get Fujifilm X100VI. Money matters but not really. Always wanted to have a full frame, but I'm not sure of the size. I'm just buying for myself not interested in earning with photography. Travel about 4-6 times a year with family. Sick of phone photos especially at night time or any low light. Purpose family, friends, travel. Thank you for your answer
Normally I’d ask a bunch more questions, but just making assumptions from what you’ve said id guess towards the Sony. Imagine quality is great for both but better AF from the Sony will help more with family, friends and anything moving on your travels.
If you print more or shoot a lot of landscapes than the x100vi wins
Thought I wanted a range finder. Held one for 2 min. Nah mate. No thanks. Got a used xt3 instead. Let’s go xt3 gang!
Hahaha I love the passion, good choice
I have an xt3. My first Fuji camera. I've been shooting for 50 years, had many cameras, and borrowed many others when I worked in Toronto Camera and Henrys back in the 70s. I am currently trying to decide between getting a 150-600 and doing more bird/wildlife photography or getting this compact and to stop taking second rate pictures with my phone. I love shooting with the Fuji 35 f2 on the xt3, and I already have the 70-300 for wildlife. I know the 150-600 will mean travelling more to specific locations, but I'm thinking the pocket camera may make me a better, more creative photographer. Sorry, I'm thinking out loud. I may have just made up my mind. My xt3 isn't going anywhere. It's a beast and I love it, but I don't always want to be packing three or more lenses. I wonder if there is some sort of belt pouch I could carry the x100 in? Seems a bit big to carry in a front pocket. It's got to be portable, or I won't carry it all the time. My flip5 is a gem this way, but the output just doesn't cut it. I would like to ditch the raw files and return to film style photography of days gone by.
@johncharlton there are some
Very nice leather sling cases for the x100 series.
I really also appreciate your comment / sharing your thoughts.
I think a good thing you could try, if you’re unsure, is to just buy second hand.
Things don’t drop in value from being 3rd hand so you can always sell said item if it’s not for you
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography Great advice. Thank you. I ordered the x100vi yesterday.
This is probably one of THE BEST videos I've viewed regarding not just the X100VI, but the concept of the X100 line in general, and what the talent-less TikTok generation has made it into, a status symbol! You literally hit the nail on the head! To be fair, I'm waiting for mine to arrive, however it will be an EDC to supplement my main camera, a Sony A7R III with a variety of zooms and primes, and I shoot EVERYTHING in RAW, and honestly do not find the appeal of film simulations or recipes as I do all my own edits post-capture. I'm buying it specifically for the size, weight, fixed focal length, and ease of portability which ticks all the EDC boxes in my world, as I've always carried my Sony around but want something smaller and lighter now. Given the market for this camera, I'm in the tiny minority for this, and I wish I wasn't, because like you pointed out, if the TikTok'ers took the time to learn what this powerhouse can actually do, rather than rest of the laurels of film simulations and call themselves "pros", then they'd grow their skills as photographers 100x!
It's about time someone told the truth............I learned photography from manual film cameras, I processed my own film in dark rooms
China
X100V most overhyped camera this century - I hated it - AF??? guys is last century tech - Color well yes if you are a tiktok photographer out of the box filters - its great but so is your iphone - So cant wait to test the X100VI to see if it´s the same overhyped gear as usual on YT
Fujifilm X100VI = FOMO
