  • You asked, we answered: what’s the difference between traditional gouache and acrylic gouache? 🫡
We’ll let Mazi do the talking, but here’s a simple primer:
🤝 Traditional and acrylic gouache have some things in common. They’re both fluid, and they both dry to an opaque, matte finish.
❌ One thing they don’t share? A binder-the substance that (combined with pigments) allows paint to be applied to surfaces for artistic.
💧Traditional gouache has a water-soluble binder, often gum arabic. This means that like watercolor, it can be reactivated with a wet brush or even additional layers of paint.
🎨 Acrylic gouache has an acrylic polymer binder. Like all acrylic paints and mediums it dries to a durable, water-resistant film that’s more or less permanent.
Is one better than the other? No! The type of paint you choose depends so much on your unique preferences and goals. If you’re using acrylic gouache, just be sure to wash your brushes and palette before your paints dry 🙂
