I have Parrot home 4.2.2 64 bit running on an 7 year old netbook with an Intel Atom N455 dual core CPU @1.66Ghz and 2GB DDR3 1066Mhz RAM. At idle it barely take 3% CPU. I use it mainly as my music and Podcast machine (I have Clementine installed for that) but it runs solid as a rock. I've gotten over 3 MB/s continuous download speed when downloading torrents with it. Not bad for a little netbook. Parrot home really shines when booting it up from a USB 3.0 flash drive on my Intel i7 quad core. It boots so fast!

I really like that the adblocker is pre-installed.

And if there is a site you want to support, you can add it under exceptions.

I have been running Parrot on one of my laptops for several months now. I like it, it's stable, and their implementation of the Mate DE is done very well. I'm glad to see that you did a first look. Good job letting people know about Parrot OS and providing a good, detailed overview.
BTW, I agree about the the exploding parrot wallpaper. That' my favorite, too.

Well, it surely makes it less painful to look at the screen, especially at night or when you're in a dark room

Great take on the distro! From my research, one of the selling points of this distro is that it sandboxes vulnerable apps (via firejail) keeping them isolated from the main system - kinda Qube-esque but not as paranoid to run multiple VMs for compartmentalization.

This is actually the second time watching this review. Only because i finally switched from Linux Mint to Parrot. Its nice to watch a review that is very indepth and you dont really leave anything out. Plus you arn't reading off script which is nice. Good job as always! Thank you

I've been running it on my desktop and laptop. After using it for about a week I decided to make it my permanent OS. Aside of the hacking features, it is perfect for just daily use. Since a great deal of shared libraries come preinstalled, most of anything I download from the repository works at first execution (without spending forever looking for missing libraries). It works great with gaming and other daily uses. They have a experimental version for the Raspberry Pi that I'll check out soon. Such an awesome OS with my favorite desktop environment.

Like it. Another distro where some thought has gone into customisation rather than just a collection of apps and a theme.

Half a regular distro + still half a Parrot :)
I did my own Redshift research a couple of times during several periods with me being the guinea pig of course. Never noticed any advantages. With and without it, I always started developing headaches after staring at my screen for 15 hours or more :D
Might be different for other people, some of them swear by it. I'm not the cursing kind I guess :D
Thumbs up for another nice review!

I like Parrot security, I am in that field and their tools are useful. I just use many of them within Mint. Now, if I wished I could just install something like this. But even then I don't need the full package, I don't look at hard drives as I get them, I just like the wiping features. But, If I did by far it would be fairly handy. I used to use a resource hacker on the Apple IIe, it was extremely handy on something like that to make the most out of the 64k you got or 128 with paging if you had the graphics memory expansion. But for most work the tools built in to Mint serves me just fine. I can even debug and sniff over serial and USB ports. But, this does seem like a really decent operating system. I am with DT over here, I love Gnome 2, I have never lost my love for it and since the option exists to use that layout, why not? The newer Mate menu is equally as nice, but I am nostalgic at heart.

I wouldn't take it too serious, you were right :)
I tried Kali, Parrot, Tails and some Japanese distro (forgot the name), but never took the effort to get comfortable with 'm when I saw the enormous amount of little programs and possibilities. It's almost a profession in its own right, isn't it?
Did quite a lot of hacking and cracking in 'the DOS days' however. Just for fun, nothing harmful.

yeah, heard some nice things about BlackArch too.

    • @blkprl969
      @blkprl969 5 лет назад

catalin catalin if you do a full install to the usb, it’s basically a new computer. But keep in mind that usb has limited read/write capacity and will eventually run out of memory or fail. If you only have the iso file on the flash drive, and do not install, it will forget all your changes and downloads each time you reboot/shutdown/remove usb. If you’re looking to use parrot or kali for “hacking”, I would not install it on your main computer. It is best to use a live usb with or without persistence, or to load in a virtual machine.

The background looks nice, but it would be cool if some of these distros would get more creative with their desktop functionality. It seems like it's always something that either functions like Windows or MacOS, or lies somewhere in the middle. I know the old saying of "don't reinvent the wheel," but damn, how many different flavors of vanilla do we need? Maybe someday I'll learn how to make my own just so to add to the variety.

If you say "Mahtay" without the need for an accent mark and only one 'T', I think people should start saying "K'dee" and "X-face".

Stop Using This Avatar “The name “MATE”, pronounced Ma-Tay, comes from yerba maté, a species of holly native to subtropical South America. Its leaves contain caffeine and are used to make infusions and a beverage called mate.”

    This review make me laugh
The distro is made for privacy debugging and hacking and you review it like if it is a common normal desktop distro. For example obviously there should be an ad block many of them try to spot your geo location and identity or other stuff
That's why... But anyway, I think this channel is going to be another distro hopping
