Thanks for sharing your video, you've inspired me to buy the goal zero bolder 100 watt solor panel recently to use with my yeti 400 (agm). A lot of people seen a new goal zero product called the skylight which I've also bought. Haven't gone camping yet but I am getting myself setup for the time I will begin the next chapter in my life of being a snowbird. ( coming very soon ).
Great video ! For those who are thinking of buying a set-up like this. You can also order an extension cord so the battery pack can be placed inside the tent or cabin... Even in the rain the batteries will be charged (solar panels are waterproof)
Thanks for another great video showing us your little cabin in the woods. I just upgraded my solar set up from a 100w Harbor Freight kit to a 400w grape solar system with 400ah of Renogy batteries from Home Depot for my little "Shabin" (not really a shed anymore, but not quite a cabin) in the woods. Now I can run a mini fridge, fans, vacuum, etc. and not run out of power like I did with the smaller Harbor Freight kit. Gotta love solar!
Great video! We just ordered the Boulder 100 and the 1000x for our overland setup. Also, we just endured Hurricane Ian so we didn’t have any power or water for days. I like the Yeti lights you all strung up in your cabin. I think we’ll do the same next time we lose power at the house.
Great videos. Very inspiring. I am going to have another go at this kin d of life, with spring coming. Hope all is well with you guys and would love to see more videos. Peace.
Hey Abby, I love your videos! I’m going to be making my own small homestead soon and I’m wondering what you and Cam have in terms of entertainment, hobbies - anything to do in your down time when you’re not tending to the cabin or doing chores. Love your videos keep them rolling in please! :)
I gave this video its 108th thumbs-up, a very auspicious number in Buddhism! There are 108 beads on a standard mala, aka "Buddhist rosary" and 108 desires.
How far down do you drain this, percentage-wise? We have a 500x and are finding ~6 hours with a 100w panel will charge it regularly. Does it take longer to charge as it gets older? Thanks for any advice :D
Great idea and demonstration. I would have no compunction about taking down some trees (on your southern aspect of the property) which becomes firewood three to six months down the line. Sounds like you guys do a good share of nature conservation anyway. I do have a bone to pick with you -- the Goal Zero suitcase Yeti -- it is *manufactured in China.* I vowed never again buy anything from China, the international pariah. When 'Kyle's Cabin' demonstrated his system, I made note that Harbor Freight buys and sells almost exclusively from China (and this was before covid-19!) I'm sure there is other US made equipment. The other thing that I would do if I was to build a cabin such as yours, is to build/buy an adjustable frame for the solar panel with a swivel base so two to four times a day you just come out and reorient it to the sun's declination and/or sweep off any snow or debris if any. No climbing roofs.
It’s hard to find stuff like this that isn’t made in China. I wish there was US manufacturing for it as well, but it’s a tall order to start new manufacturing in this country, not bc of regulation - that’s comparatively easy - but bc of the absolute lack of safety net.

I’ve been waiting for your update patiently, Abby
I would like to know the load and how much it can handle, also if it will stack with multiple generators and panels
I just got the same setup. 100 boulder and a 1500x. Thinking of getting another 100 boulder. Have you used the 600watt wall charger ?

I have the same set up except with a yeti 1000.

You should build a lazy susan-type turntable so that you can rotate the panels with the Sun.
