    There actually is a very easy way to delete points on your curve without having to right click on each one. Much like the rest of Lightroom, if you double click on a point it will remove that point and reset that section of the curve. Thank you for posting this video, after 8 years of using Lightroom I have understood what tone curve was but never fully grasped how to implicate it into my photography.

    I look at other authors’ videos to maybe see a different angle or idea, but always I come back to yours. Totally accurate and at a useful pace so it is easy to keep up. Thanks for the effort you put into your videos. What a superb job!

    Anthony, this is the best explanation of the tone curve I have seen. I have been using it for years but all I ever did was to make a slight "S" curve. You have expanded my horizons exponentially ! Thank you !

    Thanks for this Anthony. I did your full RUclips course a few years ago and then just recently was confused by the new tone curve and seem to have lost the medium and strong contrast. So for months now I’ve just use the exposure contrast slider. Then I decided to check you out again and you came to my rescue with this video. They are not lost. Just hidden. Many thanks.

    Thanks! I definitely feel I owe you a monetary tip for all of your great informative training videos that I have watched. This one on tone curves is really impressive. I had no idea all that I could do with the tone curve panel in LRC. You have a wide range of followers and I enjoy the way you go through all of the steps to explain the use of post processing software.

    Wow...that was truly awesome Anthony. I hadn't realised the full extent and power of the Tone Curve until you pointed it out so comprehensively here. This is one tute I will watch over and over . The part about the negatives will come in handy for me once I get scanning. Thanks mate.

    Note that Adobe has since changed an important element of the interface for LR Classic CC's Tone Curve as shown in this video. Anthony turns on the Region Curve by clicking an icon in the lower right. In the current version, that icon has been moved from the lower right to the top of the Tone Curve window, to the right of where it says "Adjust." If you hover over it, a label pops: "Parametric Curve." Clicking that turns on the Region Curve. To switch back to Point Curve, click the icon to the right of the Parametric Curve icon.

    Very good tutorial. I would like to suggest you to use a landscape photo for demonstrating how to curve the RGB channels instead of tinting a BW. In landscape, people can bring up the blue sky, green the greens, yellow the tips of foliages. That really surprise people how powerful the curve tool is.

    Love your videos and training! What is the main difference between adjusting tone curve vs. adjusting highlights/shadows/whites/blacks in basic?

    • @sounderdavis5446
      @sounderdavis5446 3 года назад

      Tone Curve does give a little more adjustable control of Highlights-Lights-Shadows-Darks compared to Highlights-Shadows-Whites-Blacks in Basic Adjustments as you'll see in the video at about the 5 minute mark, where Anthony shows how you can customize where the Tone Curve adjustments are applied (after enabling Parametric Curve by clicking the icon to the right of the word "Adjust" at the top of the Tone Curve window). I use one or both on different images. Experiment and see what works for you.

    I love watching all of your videos to better understand LR! I do have one question that keeps bugging me I was hoping you can squash that bug. Does the tone curve do the exact same thing as the sliders (highlights and shadows and the others) in the basic tab? It appears to me that it does so I was wondering why use the tone curve? Is it just more precise than using the sliders in the basic tab so that's why it gets its own tab? Thanks in advance!

  • @arroyodflint7114

    By accident i found that if you double click on the control point then it is deleted and the curve returns to the original ( eventually) as you remove more control points.

  • @steve_aventura
    @steve_aventura 4 года назад

    In one of your tone curve videos you showed that the parametric curve and the point curve were independent of each other. In Lightroom Classic 9.4 this no longer seems to be the case. The point curve affects the parametric curve. Have you noticed this? What happened?

    I add my thanks to everyone else's. I'm watching these a second time, now that I have a basic understanding of LR. I do have a question about the Tone Curve versus the Highlights & Shadows in the Basic adjustments. Is it that the Tone Curve allows more precision in adjustment? Do you usually use both the Basic Highlights & Shadows adjustments AND the Tone Curve adjustments when you're working on an image? I see that you have a B&W Workflow video; would it be possible to do one for a color image, or are there too many variables for that?

    HELP: Is it necessary to use tone curves? or do i do basic corrections first and then just do tone curves to control contrast?

    • @sounderdavis5446
      @sounderdavis5446 3 года назад +1

      No one way, no right or wrong answer to this for everyone. Some people prefer to do Basic Adjustments (note: there is a Contrast slider there). Some people prefer to use Tone Curve. Some do both. You don't *have* to adjust Tone Curve if you're happy with how the image looks with just Basic Adjustments. I use either or both on different images. Experiment and see what works for you.
