Two of my greatest rugby heroes of very different generations were David Duckham and Jason Robinson. They were both England players but one was an amateur of the 1970s and the other a professional of the late 1990s onwards. I tried to model my own playing style on Duckham and recall him going past three defenders in 30 yards without deviating off a dead straight line whilst they were being 'juked' into charging off at all angles.
Jason Robinson (aka Johnny-Whiz) was a major Rugby League star who made the transition to became a Rugby Union superstar with a compact physical build similar to now-retired Shane Williams (Wales) and Cheslin Kolbe (South Africa). With his footwork it was said he could get past a defender in a phone box (phone booth).
