- A new player in the PSU testing wars has emerged! In this video Gordon tells you what you need to know about a third power supply certification standard known as PPLP and who is behind it. PPLP will compete with 80 Plus and Cybenetics approval bodies many are familiar with already.

Thanks for the info Gordon, good to see you back making videos! Nice shirt too 😉
Great video. I love cybernetics but I think we need more PSUs tested and especially the budget ones (where testing is lacking the most; also I know its not Cybernetics fault its the brands fault for not paying to have it tested.)
I dont think I personaly like PPLP metrics for testing I think it would be wierd for a brand to fine tune their psu so that it fits their categories. Also I think their noise levels arent set up properly.
I'll be honest i look at cybernetics and that's it
Gordo back with new tech vid, good times.
👍 Good job Gordon, keep em' coming. MVP
It makes me so happy to see Gordon back in my feed. Go get 'em!
I remember early days of 80+ certification when there were no tiers and then slowly started with tiers and now even entry level systems come with Gold rated PSUs.
You got me replying to you with "yeah you know me".
PPLP ? Damn, this brings back the flashback of PPAP, the Pen Pineapple Apple Pen meme video 😂
From Quora:
S stands for "shuu" (秀), which is Japanese for "excellent".
It comes from the usual Japanese grading. Just like how we have A+, A, B, etc. They have their own system which is the same as ours except that instead of A+ they write "S"
"YA i did it" is also a 1990 reference song. double double
I think its clear that we need a rating system that goes beyond efficacy and sound for PSUs. And I think that was made clear when Gigabyte released PSUs 2 years ago with protections that failed to prevent its PSUs from catastrophically failing and killing other hardware in the PC. In my opinion currently Cybernetics and 80+ are not good enough.
Cybenetics does full tear downs and lists the components. I think OCP is tested as well.
I have a better idea than having bigger capacitors to handle the excursion/transients. Instead, how about a car battery on the 12 volt rail. That's 600 amps or 7200 watts. But it is unlikely it can ever use that much so something much smaller like a motorcycle battery will do just fine. With that idea, many UPS units use 12VDC batteries. If that is properly isolated that can be used.
To the manufacturers, I will stick with cybenetics. I dont appreciate what looks like a shonky award to reduce the effort you have to go to in noise, thanks for the video Gordon
Thanks Gordon, always straight to Cybenetics, 80 Plus is useless otherwise. Cultist network list is a confused, arbitrary, amateur seeming mess. PPLP may evolve into something good, or end up a pay for play award like J.D. Power. For now a list of 33 units isn't enough.
im used to the "Titanium 80+", I love my Corsair AX1500i & AX1600 series PSU's
More better quality detailed standards 👌 hope it goes out to be labeled like 80
plus so it is easier to reference
'Parent Peer Leadership Program & Parent, Pupil and Learner Panel' top results when searching in the UK.

OPP
yeah you know me!
I always look for the Frengi Latinum label.
Gold pressed latinum? It's the highest rated PSU rating for Hewmans.
Putting a gold badge when it's really platinum just shows how much we can't trust mfgrs/1st party to provide accurate information
I got a xpg that has platinum cybernetics and 80 gold sticker. Nothing bad to say about it.
Pineapple Pen... ummm... Lemon? Pen!
That star wars rogue squadron whatever draws more power than any other game I tested, 900 watts
*Thank you,* Gordon! 🙏🏼
I don't know where this places me on the nerd scale, but I really, REALLY appreciate knowing all this stuff. I've had _Cultists Network's_ PSU tier list bookmarked for years, but being able to dig a lot deeper & compare ratings is an absolute boon! 🤗
27:10 Question: Where can I access an English version of EXP Review's website?
(I'm only able to get to the Chinese version. Can you provide a link?)
Be well, stay safe, and thanks again. 👍🏼
He might be translating the website using Google Translate or built-in browser translation like Firefox and others have
@@zivzulander Thank you for the reply. I'm using Mozilla Firefox but when I attempt to use the built in utility to translate the _EXPReview_ webpage, I get a popup that reads, 'Sorry, we don't support Chinese yet.'
@@zivzulander UPDATE: My Stars and Candy Bars, Google translate actually _worked._
Thanks again. 🙏🏼👍🏼🙌🏼
Hmm, there is a tiny button on the top right to select the language. Oh wait. I'm reading your message wrong, I thought you meant PPLP.
@@FakeGordonMahUng Thank you for taking the time to reply, Gordon. Google Translate seems to be holding up for now with the *EXPreview* website (otherwise everything is in Chinese with nothing that looks like a language toggle) -- although I'm getting both English and Chinese text (with Google Translate), and the pages are taking awhile (1-2 min) to load. It's good enough though. I'm really digging all this new info. Thanks again for doing this video! 🤗
Why you guys stop mobile camera comparison video
Those where the best comparison video ❤
Please start it again
Sorry, I loved doing them as well but this channel is just focusing on computer hardware now. Might bring it back another time, but it would be on a different chanel.

@@pcworld thanks adam
I'm pretty sick of questionable "cultist lists" with large speculative positions for PSUs. Can't we get better certifications?
There's probably some utility in aggregating & summarizing user reviews (& blacklisting troubled models) like Cultists does, but I wish they were less sketchy.
Cybenetics just copied 80 PLUS by creating a identical rating system and added tests that aren't included in their certification requirements. 80 PLUS remains the industry standard due to its long-standing (20 years), widely recognized testing criteria by a non-biased ISO-17025 laboratory.
PPAP??
Why do we need another way of measuring efficiency? Why no ATX12VO? This is yet another sideways step by the industry
12VO is stillborn in consumer. Stop trying to necro it. It's stillborn for a reason.
There is no overriding super important world ending reason to move a bunch of expensive voltage regulation off of a hundred dollar psu to a seven hundred dollar board. It isn't consumer friendly at all to do so. I can't think of a single positive that would come from a failure that would cost me the latter to fix (plus complete system disassembly) instead of just slotting a new power supply into the back for much less effort and money.
You can park 12vo back in your posterior where it belongs.
@POVwithRC
Exactly, how can anyone think that entrusting the current motherboard brands is a good idea. They don't even do VRMs in an honest manner now. Nevermind all the other cost cutting garbage motherboard brands are notorious for many years.
Well, it's not up to us to decide someone's business plans.
I am actually open to ATX12VO myself but that is a board and PSU vendor task. Again, a third player for PSU certs could potentially be good for consumers.
Watch the video, PPLP is not just doing efficiency, they are going to try and quantify the quality of the PSU too, and noise.
12VO will die in the hands of the OEMs. Instead of improved (costlier) component efficiency, it's a work around to meet reg. requirements. PSU manufacturers will see some cost savings, which will never be passed along to consumers by the OEMs, and motherboard manufacturers will pinch every penny with the cheapest DC/DC conversion they can muster, just like they do with OEM and budget DIY board VRMs now. I'm not worried, it'll never make it to DIY or my customers. Let the OEMs do what they do best, and shovel out even lower quality e-waste.
