One of the most effective management tools in regard to team relations I have found through my career is a biannual survey. Completely anonymous and open ended. Asked the team to rate leadership as a whole and individually on 10-15 key factors and then leave a comment box below each for open and honest feedback. Do this twice a year with a month or so open period to be submitted. The box is only opened when the period ends to ensure the teams anonymity is protected.
