A saxaphonist is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Wise words from a wizard
Absolutely 🎷
He drives with the trunk open though
brilliance!
He stayed in the pocket all throughout the car ride
All of the Scary Pocket covers with Elise on vocals just sound soooo lovely, her breathy clean delivery is sublime, and works so well with the funky fat bass guitar, drums, and in this song of course the fabulous Koz sax solo. I literally have watched this video about 100 times already.
a lot of the singers who feature here do a lot of really big acrobatic stuff, which is all impressive, but not always what the song calls for. elise trouw sings exactly the notes that are necessary and nothing extra, and still manages to do it with tremendous style.
as a keys player who likes to play a lot and have fairly intricate band arrangements that really play with the space everybody takes up in the mix, if i had to pick a scary pockets vocalist to front my band, i'd probably ask her first.
she also plays drums, which is really cool
She's taken bro, chill
@@Bruceskyy are you not allowed to compliment someone if they have a partner? what a patriarchal view
@@nap_time_ Only the patriarch would allow men to hit on taken women

Legend has it, if the funk is good enough, a travelling saxophonist will join your session. Always have a spare mic ready in the studio in the case of this event.
It's one of those laws of nature that scientists don't understand
😁
I've only gotten the funk that high once. Saxsquatch showed up.
It's a sax... it'll probably bleed into everything else anyhow? Still, *top notch* performance from Koz here!
999th like from tired marx
Her voice dipped in reverb is just insane ❤
It's what ears were made for.
hyperbole dripped in simping
@@MFWb00bi3s What is about incels that they don't like when attractive people get attention for being talented? Such a weird phenomena.
Agreed. I wondered if it was double-tracked or just reverb.
I don't think any person could possibly have predicted how incredible that sax solo was gonna be
david koz is one of the better living sax players
100%. Who said sax solos are dead? That was ridiculously good.
Shouldn't have read the comments so early, rip spoiler
@@danielmead146 And he's done such amazing stuff with Vulf and Cory Wong.
Annnnndddd I'm in the middle 80s again and I'm so ok with it.
I'd like to hear them do "Somebody That I Used To Know" that would be an amazing cover!!!
They did! ruclips.net/video/euHMxOm0DPg/видео.html
@@bobhoran9778 I meant *with* Elise Trouw
This is a great cover, but I feel like the original bass rift was such an iconic part of the song so this one has a completely different vibe to the original
Yep, agreed. The original bass line was more funk than whatever this one is..
@@daspinmonkey I totally hear you both, and as a bass player myself, I'm sensitive to that. Nonetheless, Calvin's pumping eighths on this version are pretty darn funky. It's totally different than the original, but it opens the song up sonically (e.g. the original bass line would swamp Elise's vocals and Koz's killer sax solo needed that bedrock bass). You're right... without the original bass line, it's a different song, but it's a good song. [EDIT: Jack and Ryan took a risk here, and as noted elsewhere, they're self-titled "fanboys" of Tame Impala and did a gushing analysis of this song and all of its hooks, including the bassline. They took a risk, and it'd be interesting to hear their rationale at some point, but I do think the risk paid off. This video has been out for ~5 days, and they have 10K+ likes.]
This!! It’s a funk cover…the funkiest part of the original song is no where to be found
"it opens the song up sonically" 🙄
@@nosouponhead He's a bass player himself..dontchaknow lol
Jack’s face when the sax drops 😂😂
Looks like he’s gonna spontaneously combust from the funkyness
This is freaking awesome 🔥
I'm a smidgen disappointed. Kinda hard to beat such an impossibly good song in the first place. Bassline totally inaudible. 😢 their stayin alive is their best 👌 work by far. Imo.
Right!!🎉
the bass is there in my cans...@@Jimd905
@@MurkyDregs beautiful cars!
Cant go wrong with Elise? Nice Bass and 1st class mixxing!! Nice Soft sound! Do It again with a Mash!! ? w/same beat!! ?
I came for Elise but stayed for the sax
I got serious chills when the sax player strolled in and started absolutely killing it. Beautiful cover from everyone involved.
"The sax player" ... you mean the living legend that is DAVE KOZ!
Strolled in...?? You know it's just a video.. right? Editing techniques have been around since the 1800's. And if it looks like they're all having one big happy jam-fest, it's because they've already laid down their tracks and are just lip-synching off tapes to make the vid look exuberantly spontaneous. Also, there is no Santa.
@@timapple6586 You've either taken OPs comment entirely too serious or are being extremely sarcastic; the latter isn't necessarily conveyed well through text, so I can only assume it is the first. Chill dude
@@codswallop321 I'm going to have to listen to more of his work - just awesome
@@jamesgood7894 The suggestion that video editing techniques have been around since the 1800s makes me think it's a joke. But if someone presents a good lecture on the visual tricks used on daguerreotypes, I might be convinced it's a serious comment.
OMG DAVE KOZ. That was so righteous. Also, Elise, as always, voice of an angel. Y'all are perfect. Woof.
Been a big fan of Elise for a long time. Glad to see her back here again
Beautiful feminine voice, and I love the big reverb they added at the end of her phrases.
Couldn't agree more!
same
Not only I agree with all of your comments but also have to say she has one of the most beautiful face in the world!
@@Joaocruz30 Yeah she’s unbelievably fine
Good cover, but I feel like taking away that bass line made it less funky
Dave Koz is one of my saxophone heros. Great addition here. Hope we see him again in the future.
I'm a metalhead myself. But I know good stuff when I hear it, and that was amazing.
I was unsure about this song without *that* baseline, but I really enjoyed the reinterpretation! It made it more of a pop song and I think that the heart of this song is a pop banger
Nice last name
Ditching that bassline turned me completely off of this, to be honest. The band is very talented though.
I'm the opposite, I loved the bassline
What's great about DK's solo is not just the lines he plays, but the way he structures the solo so that it builds and releases tension naturally and in perfect harmony with the structure of the song itself. That is not easy to do and takes a lot of experience and practice, but he makes it look simple.
The video story was so brilliant. It's a perfect visual build up to the sax solo.
Honestly, without it, feels like mehhh lol
When he pulled the sax out of the trunk like a gangster, I knew this song was going to another level... well done.
That's some serious discipline on the bass. Nice job Calvin Turner!
I can't imagine being as good at anything as this guy is at playing sax.
Are you good at being on time? LOL
Elise's voice is so perfect for this! Great production too.
The drummer is using Elise's signature sticks. Nice touch!
This should come with a content warning, so much fire.
Elise is a colossal talent, love seeing her collab!
I love Elise's range as a singer, but I am glad that she gets to collaborate with Scary Pockets.
This channel makes me wanna make/produce music so badddddddddd
Same here my friend
Literally just do it! What are you waiting for? All you need is a computer and some motivation, and it seems like you've got both!
Ah yes, covers of this song allow you to actually understand the lyrics
Exactly
Dad, is that you?
I can understand the lyrics just fine with the original. Lol
@@user-vi4xy1jw7e that means you don't listen to your music loud enough
Listening to the lyrics made me realize that this is a ballad of a seriously beta male. Move on dude.
Man. Really enjoyed the cover, but I was sorely missing that movement between the I and the bVII in the chorus. Either way, great stuff you guys.
That smooth jazzy beat with her voice is amazing and beautiful. Great way to start the morning. Good job y'all.
It's almost impossible to look at Jack Conte without smiling.
Awesome!
I like to think our saxophonist, Dave Koz, didn't even know they were recording inside, that's just how he enters rooms :D
The little vocal flutter at 1:30 🔥 🔥 🔥
Glad that Dave found a parking space, whole thing would have collapsed
Lol and a perfect microphone
Elise is so pretty. Her voice is incredibly soothing.
Dude, that bass players tone is STELLAR. Guitar tone is lush too!
i am incredibly comfortable with the energy we've created in the studio today
Wow, I could listen to her all day. What a great voice. And that sax solo was epic.
A bit of pitch correction never hurt nobody
Elise is the most beautiful person who has ever existed.
Agreed.
Where's the funk?
I think Elise Trouw is one of the most beautiful woman I've ever seen.
OMG this is off the scale. The whole band are amazing. Elise on vocals is incredible and she can play too. And the sax, wow. Amazing you guys, amazing. ❤️
Elise is wonderfull and Scary Pockets is the best! Thanks Ryan and Jack!
This was another weird one. It's as if someone decided to see how it sounded by removing a third of the chord changes. Love the artistry at work, a little confused by some of the choices.
This is the type of covers I love. It keeps the main original idea or vibe while giving a whole new feel to the song.
Elise is an angel, Jack's happy face always makes my day and damn, Dave was feelin it! Insane vid nice work guys :)
Nothing like musicians who know what they are doing.
Elise's talent is ridiculous. She can do everything, from drums to singing.
Yet she’s stuck on RUclips with her looping! She’s beautiful, has a great voice, delicious rack, her instrument playing lacks though.
And also beautiful 😍
@@e-money5851 "delicious rack" wtf is wrong with you
i know right . shes so awsome
@@e-money5851 I think she's a great drummer actually.
This band scared shit out me.. these guys don’t age at all, they are always look the same as decades ago.
Elise's voice and the smooth overdrive delay guitar sound very ethereal, but the alto sax brings it down to earth, Great performance, Bravo!
Did anybody else notice they edited in engine noises at 0:00 for the sax guy driving his Tesla???
Are you kidding me? I forgot about the entire song as soon as his solo started. The genius buildup made it even better. Wow!
Elise her voice is very addictive to listen to!
That sax solo is fire!
dont deny the thumbnail sold this video
hell yeah
The combination of a great TameImpala song, Elises awesome voice and Ryans sweet guitar!
0:40 looks like an older Carlos Sainz if anyone follows F1
I still think the twins from chon look more like him😂
Wonderful reverbs, the complete song floats! ;-)
I came here for Elise Trouw, I stayed for whole emsemble.
I don’t even know the original on this one.😂 This is probably my favorite track you guys have ever done. Beautiful mix. I love Dave Koz
This songs a modern classic
I mean the original's a modern classic and they basically 100% gutted it to make this cover so you should definitely check the original. They kept the vocal melody and lyrics and that's it.
I hope you checked the original. Although I love Elise and I'm sure all those musicians are very talented, the music here has nothing to do with the original song.
If chocolate milk were a song.
The funk that comes out of every project that Jack Conte is part of man. This, Pomplamoose, he is so good at surrounding himself with the right people to really pull off these incredible covers. I don’t know who the creative mastermind is, or if it is a communal project. But I am so thankful that this group of musicians found each other.
And let’s not forget that besides being a great musician he’s also the CEO of Patreon 🤯
It's weird to see Elise just singing, not that I'm complaining, this is great!
I do think the iconic bass line is missing which does take away from the impact of the song.
I don't really miss the bass line. And I'm a bass player. There's a lot of good bass lines!
It makes this cover. Wake up babe
That staccato bass line from the original would not work here, plus these guys take vapid teen hits and make ‘em cool
it's cool to see the musicians my dad listened to when i was a kid are still cool af and still crushin their craft.
Great cover so good like original. Elise i love You ❤️
That bass tone is incredible
Elise Trouw is a multitalented musician who is phenomenal on the drums!!!!!!
Fantastic to see Elise back behind the mic! Super talented and awesome. Dave Koz.. yeah.. I'll just smash out a smokin' sax solo.. no worries.. BOOM!!
This lady on vocals is FIRE
Huge fan of Pockets, Elise, Dave AND this song.. this did not land for me. I almost almost love these tracks, but I felt this arrangement totally washed out the song and never went anywhere.
Sax solo was wild killer.
her face is so calming
Always love when you have Elise on, great cover!
Elise paints with her hands at her live performances, too. She's such a good fit for this group!
When I saw Elise's and Dave's names I knew we were in for a good one! but the whole routine with Dave driving and his entrance to blow our faces off? Chef's kiss!
this girls voice is off the charts, the airyness and old school vibe...man I'm glad I got put on to her a couple yrs back
Elise is always outta site....Havent seen Dave blow for a few years....WOW! Great ensemble!
Someone said they left together
I ran out the door to get her
She was holding hands with Trevor
Not the greatest feeling ever
Said, "Pull yourself together
You should try your luck with Heather"
Then I heard they slept together
Oh, the less I know the better
The less I know the better
Oh my love, can't you see yourself by my side?
No surprise when you're on his shoulder like every night
Oh my love, can't you see that you're on my mind?
Don't suppose we could convince your lover to change his mind
So goodbye
She said, "It's not now or never
Wait ten years, we'll be together"
I said, "Better late than never
Just don't make me wait forever"
Don't make me wait forever
Don't make me wait forever
Oh my love, can't you see yourself by my side?
I don't suppose you could convince your lover to change his mind
I was doing fine without ya
'Til I saw your face, now I can't erase
Giving in to all his bullshit
Is this what you want? Is this who you are?
I was doing fine without ya
'Til I saw your eyes turn away from mine
Oh, sweet darling, where he wants you
Said, "Come on Superman, say your stupid line"
Said, "Come on Superman, say your stupid line"
Said, "Come on Superman, say your stupid line"
Skilled musicians with cool equipment and instruments. Always tasteful and rarely over playing. I appreciate y’all . Recorded music doesn’t sound like this anym
3:00 is the exact moment when singer becomes an audience.
Jack Conte must be the epitome of the "f*ck, I'll build it myself" concept. His pure amateurism, exploding at the end of the song, is contagious and inspiring.
Love elise, she is Hella talented and is underrated imo
I Love how the singer sounds. They have a really good pick on the vocal effects. Sounds mystical.
Vocals on that Sennheiser mic with that snappy beat oooo I love it! Little reverb in vocals and killing it, what a dreamy sound!
Elise Trouw always kills it, so cool to see her back.
where she was?
she is killing it yes!
Gosh, Scary Pockets are phenomenal, but with Elise..... ufffff speechless.
Absolutely love the synth in this!
Came in and took over like Lisa in The Simpson's intro 🎶🎷🎷
Dave's entrance, and that solo! Wow!
What kind of animal drives around with a sax in the trunk without a case????? ...oh... that kind of animal! What an amazing solo!
smashed it
3:05 Jack was doing fine without Dave, then he heard his sax, now he can't sit down!
#1 - I love that you worked in Van Halen's Jump in the chorus.
#2 - I feel like this is the first Music Man Stingray appearance in a Scary Pockets video? Such a departure from the normal P-Basses
Great cover!
There's definitely a bit of Michael Anthony in Calvin's bass part, and when you combine it with keys, you can definitely hear a bit of Van Halen in there. (Yes, there are a few folks trashing this cover because it drops the iconic bassline, but this is a great arrangement. The original bass part is fantastic, and it's a full blown melodic part unto itself, but it would totally compete with Elise's vocals. Jack and Ryan took a bit of a gamble here, and it works IMO.)
I ♥ this song, and I love Love LOVE Elise's beautiful voice. Her version just gives the whole song a different vibe. Love it!
Nice to see Elise's signature sticks in the hands of the drummer :)
pervert
0.75x for synthwave vibes
Never heard a solo mixed so far into the background before🤔
The keyboardist is all of us
Great Bass Sound. Love that little growl especially on the B String.
without bass line this song is not recognizable😅
